October 21, 20186 yr I really enjoyed tonight's episode, it was crafted beautifully. I even shed a couple of tears at the end. The story was carefully written and the actress that played Rosa Parks was on point throughout that episode. Flawless episode.
October 21, 20186 yr Probably my least favourite out of the 3, but I still really enjoyed it, though I do prefer the more sci-fi based episodes. The music at the end did feel a bit out of place I felt. You can definitely tell it was aiming to be more educational, like Chibnall said. Edited October 21, 20186 yr by WhoOdyssey
October 21, 20186 yr As much as I detest Rise Up as a song, it really worked during that bus scene and over the credits.
October 21, 20186 yr Astounded by how great that was. I had high expectations - I didn't think Chibnall would allow an episode that wasn't appropriately executed about Rosa Parks at all, let alone so early into his run, so that was never a concern of mine - and they were met and then some. All of the leads had excellent moments throughout, Ryan's despair and Yaz's confusion about where to sit were great moments in particular. It was tense, the humour was included at the right moments, and they always kept the focus on how great Rosa was, and how groundbreaking her actions on that bus were. Perfect, and easily the best so far. I think this will go down as a Doctor Who classic, in fact.
October 21, 20186 yr They got the tone just right, a great episode, and some surprisingly funny moments as well, like Ryan not realising who Rosa Parks was.

THIS I loved how history was the forefront, and at the end they just had to watch. Imagine how hard it would be to keep your mouth shut in that situation. With all the racism and anti immigrant fervour after Brexit, we should all remember to speak up when we see it and fight bigotry.
October 21, 20186 yr OK, one thing I hope doesn't become a thing is soundbeds from songs that aren't the Doctor Who theme featuring too much and over the end credits, ESPECIALLY NOT SODDING RISE UP (I get that it suited in this context in this case ik ik) Anyway, that aside, I really liked it. It didn't feel classic Doctor Who, but it was refreshing and interesting to see it take on modern history in a way that wasn't crazy and over the top but nuanced and dramatic all the same and it actually seemed to reflect the racist atmosphere at the time really well, the threat was good too in that it was a but outside of what Doctor Who usually deals with but in reality, a very dangerous threat. I think Doctor Who's own use of social commentary is often underused and I think that was a great episode that shows it is still a relevant and thoughtful show when it comes to this.
October 21, 20186 yr That song fit PERFECTLY. It was such a strange thing to see in Doctor Who too, and it fit so well over the scene, that it added to the events. It really impacted, especially continuing over the credits. Really modern episode. It is a HUGE departure from series of old. And again, with the rise in racism in recent years, it speaks to our time too.
October 21, 20186 yr The brilliance of this episode, it had the viewer reeled in right from start to finish, there was nothing dull about it and nothing scary from the usual stuff, it just was pure finesse. A piece from Wikipedia Rosa Louise McCauley Parks was an activist in the civil rights movement best known for her pivotal role in the Montgomery Bus Boycott. The United States Congress has called her "the first lady of civil rights" and "the mother of the freedom movement".
October 21, 20186 yr I'm positive this episode will go down as a classic; that was absolutely phenomenal. They really didn't hold back or shy away from showing just what it was like, what people said and did, etc. Vinette Robinson was fantastic as Rosa also. The story of Krasko trying to prevent history from happening was dealt with well, too. It wasn't too overpowering that it undermined the point of the episode, but it gave the episode an extra layer (the reference to Stormcage too *.*). I was in tears at the end when they used Rise Up during the bus scene. That was incredibly done. Definitely the best episode of the series so far, and it's probably going to take a lot to top it in terms of what's to come.

It is easily top10 best ever Doc Who. I am SHOOK. Stormcage is River Song's prison!! :o I only just realised omg
October 21, 20186 yr What a fantastic episode. This series is 3/3 for me so far but I think this was the best one so far. The only complaint is that I felt the villain needed fleshing out a little more. I’d have been interested to know the details of his crime, which time period he came from. I’m guessing he was a human based on what his goals were.
October 21, 20186 yr Author By far the best episode of the series so far, a real step up from the first two and has heralded the start of this new era properly properly starting. The tone was perfect in every single way. It didn't try and cover anything up, didn't dumb it down for the audience but it also didn't feel preachy at the same time. Experiencing it through the eyes of Ryan was so effective and allowed the subject of racism to be explored in a way we've never seen in the show before (only it being very briefly mentioned by Martha and Bill). I agree that Yaz's lack of a place was also really well done. Vinette Robinson was stunning as Rosa, the best role I've seen her in. It was moving in every single way, and tears were in my eyes at that scene, so so effective. Even moreso because the Doctor and everyone had to be part of it, such a horrendous position to be in. All the main characters absolutely shone (although Yaz is still getting sidelined...) and you can tell Jodie's becoming a lot more comfortable in the role, this was her best ep so far too. I did like the balance between the story of Rosa and the sci-fi element. The sci-fi allowed Rosa's story to be told in the episode without feeling forced. It will definitely go down as a classic in my eyes. One of the best historicals the show has done. I love that next week is also completely different too, as it should be. The Vortex Manipulator and the mention of Stormcage too, love the nods to the show's own history without it being forced <3
October 21, 20186 yr Author I know it only ended half an hour ago but I can't stop thinking about it <3
October 21, 20186 yr Me either :o And it was Daniel from Revenge! #Revenge All the more poignant after the Ryan Air incident showing racism is still alive
October 21, 20186 yr I know it only ended half an hour ago but I can't stop thinking about it <3 Same - the sign of a truly brilliant episode! The only two Capaldi episodes that truly had a big impact like this for me were Heaven Sent and World Enough and Time, for different reasons entirely of course. All the more poignant after the Ryan Air incident showing racism is still alive Absolutely!! It couldn't have been aired on a better day really. Let's show the world what we're striving for at a time where some people desperately need a reminder.
October 21, 20186 yr I know it only ended half an hour ago but I can't stop thinking about it <3 Me too! This makes me very excited for Demons of the Punjab and how they deal with the setting, etc, but also more historical / educational episodes in Chibnall's era of the show in general.
October 21, 20186 yr Author All the more poignant after the Ryan Air incident showing racism is still alive Literally just came in here (again) to say that! The literal EXACT issues are still being shown today. It shows we still need people like Rosa. I want to watch it again like immediately, which never happens. I just can’t get over the main scene, and how powerless they all are, particularly Graham. :(
