November 20, 20187 yr Releasing in Q4 is risky as you stand a much higher risk of getting lost in the shuffle but if it pays off it pays off in a huge way because of the added boost of Christmas gift buying, so I'm not surprised the release schedule is so skewed to Q4 at all. There are very few examples of major acts releasing outside Q4 in the last few years who have had huge selling albums. For bigger acts who are guaranteed to do well, especially off the back of gifting, I think it's actually more of a risk to release outside Q4. I think about how Take That's Wonderland would have done if released in Q4 2016 instead of Q1 2017. It had a big opening sale but then dropped off really quickly, whereas in Q4 it would have held up better due to the Christmas gift boost and would probably have gone platinum at least.
November 20, 20187 yr It will be interesting to see how The 1975 hold up, it'll definitely open with huge numbers. The first reviews for the album have been incredibly, all 4 reviews I've seen so far have been 5/5. The NME have compared it to Radiohead's OK Computer.

I'm gonna predict that, many years down the line, A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships will not be considered as having as much influence and legacy as OK Computer did.
November 20, 20187 yr Would love P!nk to reach the top 10 with A Million Dreams, in my opinion it’s better than the original! Is it looking likely?
November 20, 20187 yr I wouldn't predict *huge* numbers for The 1975 as their best sales week is 58k, maybe something similar if they're lucky, the singles haven't been huge successes so far compared to the previous campaign (1 x silver, 1 x gold, 1 x platinum).
November 20, 20187 yr Wasnt it posted that the 1975 had already Huge preorders? I think the 5 or 7 or whatever grats they’ve released are very mediocre Some even annoying like that Twotimes song And their lyrics are so poor That a comparison to Ok computer is an insult to Radiohead I liked their last era but this one is disappointed so far No matter what NME or R1 tell you

Version of 'The greatest show' is disappointing as it missed out the best part....'its everything you'll ever need...it's everything'.....

I'd say it must that scale to be "huge" in Q4.
November 20, 20187 yr Still, I want to know what exactly is "huge", I mean Arctic Monkeys opened with 86k in May. I'd say it must that scale to be "huge" in Q4. Sporadically the rest of the year you will get the odd week where an album or 2 will sell these huge numbers but this time of the year you get a lot more that have at least 1 huge week some that have multiple huge weeks Take that example apart from AM the rest of the top 40 would have averaged fairly low sales those weeks this week we will have at least 3 albums that will likely sell 50k plus and the rest of the top 10 will possibly pass 20k j ust a few months ago an album could get number 1 on under 20k now it will barely go top 10
November 20, 20187 yr I think this is a huge step up from ILIWYS tbh. I love that album, but I like how different each of the singles sound from each other. I think It's Not Living will be my favourite track from them ever soon.
November 20, 20187 yr Isn't the thing with The 1975 and why they are getting so much hype is cos they are meant to be headling Reading/Leeds in 2019? It will open with decent numbers I think but can't see it holding up brilliantly as they haven't really had a huge single off the back of the album to keep the general public interested.
November 20, 20187 yr I think it will get a boost around February after the Brit awards - as they'll probably win Best Group, perform and possibly nominated if not win Best Album.
November 20, 20187 yr The thing about people saying their singles have flopped isn't relevant because indie acts rarely get huge hits these days!
November 20, 20187 yr They've done significantly better than Twenty One Pilots did with Trench (which is more commercial sounding other than TooTime) at least! :P
November 20, 20187 yr Is there no chart update today??? Updates are not guaranteed everyday, if there was one available we would have posted it up earlier. Also not knowing on the odd rare occasion, just make the charts more interesting.

November 20, 20187 yr I'll have to dig the article out but I remember way back into the summer there was a Music Week article saying The 1975 had sold 20k pre-orders so far.
