I don't get how people expressing homophobia is comparable to people finding a homophobic word offensive. Different scenarios entirely...

My football club has had people saying the cheerleaders should be banned because it's degrading to women. Great idea, let's put people out of a job and stop them from enjoying what they like because some snowflake is offended...

It also edits Kanye West's use of Dyke in Stronger so if one slur isn't allowed I don't understand how this one is?

Each to their own though, maybe I'm just slightly older. I have a different viewpoint! Some of the stuff I've heard people get offended about this year has been pathetic and that doesn't help how I see things. We are going to ban everything soon!

Things have changed and times have changed compared to back then. I had it as well back in high school, being kicked deliberately and shouted the f-word when they sung it, it's still there.

It's called society moving forward. Progression. People actually having empathy for those that don't want to be reminded of the word after being called it for a large portion of their lives. No one is saying ban it - just censor it. Much like other songs that have had slurs and swear words censored for decades.

 

Things that were acceptable in the sixties weren't acceptable in the eighties and so on. It's not a new thing.

 

 

After all the well reasoned, sometimes deeply personal reasons that people have posted on here about why they don’t like the word, to read people still posting “OMG SNOWFLAKES, lets ban EVERYTHING ddd” is disheartening, but I suppose not surprising given the current environment we are living it.

Everyone in this thread is 'I'm not offended but others are/might be' notion that its like people need to complain for the sake of it or be offended on someone else behalf.

Alternatively this thread is also filled with people who are offended that the rest of us are offended. Why do any of you really care if one word is censored or not? I have a hard time believing it will impact or hinder your lives in any way at all while it will actually make others feel better as they don't have to hear a word constantly during Christmas season that makes them feel bad.

I think this is my first time of encountering you as a poster and I don't understand why you're so passive aggressive? You can't decide whether people are offended or not. Try actually reading and having some sort of empathy to the perfectly reasonable explanations as to why people think the word should be censored in the song.

 

Your life won't be affected by this word being censored. Do you listen to the radio a lot? Then you will be used to censored versions of songs. This word actually impacts on a LOT of people's lives by scum thinking it's ok to go around singing that word like it's not offensive and thinking they have a pass to call individuals that name. Especially this time of year (if you even bothered to read any of Iain's posts). The word is offensive and is used as a slur. As a soceity we need to change this and it needs to be censored on radio and tv, to help soceity progress forward.
