Posted December 30, 20186 yr The normal ratio is 100 streams = 1 sale, but is this really the best ratio, now that streaming is the dominant method of consuming music? How many of us actually listen to new song 100 times anyway (say within one year)? Also, some tracks get listened to just once, so see if people like it - but even if they don't, they still count towards the charts. That doesn't seem quite right to me. Edited December 30, 20186 yr by vidsanta
December 30, 20186 yr Only song I've listened to over 100 times this year is Shallow. Usually max 50 times. Edited December 30, 20186 yr by SKOB
December 30, 20186 yr Just to be clear, it’s not 100 of your own streams of a song that equals 1 sale as that would take ages. It’s 100 streams in general. I’m sure you get that but your OP doesn’t read in that way :P It’s very easy for a song to accumulate 100 streams in total from the general public and anyway I believe an individual’s streaming of a track that counts towards a sale is capped daily? My most played track of 2018 has 61 plays? Well that’s what last.fm has scrobbled but I know that some here will well succeed that :P

Probably the only songs I listen to anything like that much are Ellie Goulding, and Lana Del Rey.
December 30, 20186 yr Author yes yes theres a daily cap to avoid cheating Even if I loved a song, I couldn't listen to it that many times, or I'd go loopy! :o
December 30, 20186 yr If I like it probably around 30-40 times. I'm not sure I've listened to any song 100 times!
December 30, 20186 yr My most played tracks of 2018 are at 76 (God's Plan), 72 (Sicko Mode) and 63 (Nice For What) plays, so not even one sale for any of them
December 30, 20186 yr The daily cap is 10 streams per day per user. This daily cap was introduced from the beginning on.
December 30, 20186 yr yes yes theres a daily cap to avoid cheating IIRC I think the cap is 10 plays per user in a day?
December 30, 20186 yr I can’t say I listen to the same song 100 times within a year via Spotify. I’d say 50 at max!
December 30, 20186 yr Obviously I don’t know if this could be done but I’ve always thought streams should be calculated by if a person adds it to their own library or playlist and that should count as one sale no matter how many times they play it. To me that is the same as downloading a song. So say they like a song on Hot Hits they add that to their library and that’s one sale that’s the same as listening to song on the radio and going to buy it from iTunes.
December 30, 20186 yr 12 songs have crossed the 100 plays mark for me this year. Including 1,150 for Close To Me and 750 for Fuego :o
December 30, 20186 yr I don't count how many listens on my device but I voted 26-50 as I usually add them to my playlist for up to 6 weeks max!
December 30, 20186 yr I don't know what my most streamed tracks for this year are but it's safe to say most, if not all, are on ACR! They are mostly from before the 00s...

I like the idea but it'd make the chart a lot easier to rig
