I'd love to see you try and write a track with better lyrics than "Funky Friday" - Dave's wordplay is very clever and slick, I don't see what's "silly" and "adolescent" about it? If anything, "Someone You Loved" is adolescent for pandering to that cliche heartbreak style lol

I mean, I don't think EITHER song is adolescent. Someone You Loved is a song that genuinely appeals to all ages - in the car today we had my 9 year old cousin, 19 year old sister, 21 year old me and 50 year old mum, and we ALL said we love that song. It's got a special something to it that separates it from the "cliché heartbreak" songs for sure.

Equally, Funky Friday is a shining gem from UK rap the past year IMO. I agree that Dave's wordplay is brilliant, it's packed full of hooks too and it stands out. We don't have to slate one song to praise another, though :magic:

Don't get me wrong, I love "Someone You Loved" :D! The lyrics are a bit childish but it does add to the song's charm.

See I don't agree at all, I think the lyrics are really quite mature and there's some really great lyrics in there! Each to their own I guess.

I really hope so, deserves more than a week at the top.

I don’t think either song deserved a week at the top

About the Dave intelligent lyrics debate, Funky Friday is a very enjoyable song yes, but I find with this new one Black, and especially with Hangman which is still my favourite of his, that his much more intelligent raps seem to perform much worse.

I think Lewis is a great songwriter - it’s his vocal that’s the problem! I think SYL would be number 1 right now with a less strenuous vocalist.

Dave is also a great songwriter I think which makes him stand out amongst his peers.

I also disagree here, I've seen way more positive comments on his vocals than negative! His voice can be a bit much on some songs, I totally agree, but on Someone You Loved it's more restrained, and in line with the emotion you'd expect in such a song. It makes it feel much more raw. I'd be surprised if his vocals really were putting enough people off to make up a ~9k sales difference.

That high bit before the last chorus, it literally sounds as if he’s got the worst constipation. Not pleasant :P

+1 to everything Joseph has said to support Lewis Capaldi

What are these “childish lyrics”?

Who would have thought Westlife would still be top 100 on Spotify streaming 6+ weeks after release?

Lizzo seriously needs to get a move on and start making some good climbs.

LEWIS CAPALDI IS AMAZING, Y'ALL WILL DEAL.

WHAT A VOICE

WHAT A NATIONALLY

WHAT A SENSE OF HUMOUR.

Yeah that's vile :puke2:

56. Lauv & Troye Sivan - i'm so tired...

This needs to get a move on although it's doing decently on Spotify! Such a tune

EDIT: I clearly think I'm in the iTunes thread
