I think she has absolutely nailed it with this! It's a strong, instant and fun pop song that doesn't take itself at all seriously. It is exactly what she needed at this very moment in her career. The video is wonderful, but she seems to be a master at those.

Let's hope they don't catastrophically bugger up the rest of the era this time.

The general reaction to this seems very positive, I just have a feeling this will be a very fun era (like 1989) to be a part of <3

I hate to be that person but it’s actually being slated outside of Buzzjack and the core fanbase.

What I will say is that the video is a beauty. I’m so happy she’s working with someone new. I hope Khan is fuming!

It sounds like so many things. Emeli Sande, the Panic hit, Jess Glynne, Pink and most of all The Greatest Showman.

She'll deff be #1 here even if Stomzy is higher on streaming. Her sales will be huge.

I.... really don't get those comparisons other than Emeli Sandé oops (and even then that's just the tune of the chorus)

Yeah the reactions out of here are... pretty bad :( I get some of the criticisms (esp surrounding the bridge) but some are absolutely ridiculous (I'm seeing people & publications attacking it cos Taylor isn't talking about important topics in society and there's no references to politics and the state of the world which I'm just :/)

I still think this'll smash. The song I keep coming back to is Cant Stop The Feeling which was gigantic but slated online all the time.

It will 100% smash. I get why she released this it’s very American AC radio hit, and she needed something that the radio would stick to. After the first week or so LWYMMD’s hype wore off and it was a lot less stable than her other leads, they needed a radio deal to get it a pop #1 over there. So it’s wise to go with something safe that will smash and have longevity even if it does end up being one of the least popular songs on the album.
This is basically Delicate with Brendon, Shake It Off’s cheer, and promo. No wonder this sounds like it could get a good reception.

I hadn't seen some of the reviews when I wrote that, wow pretty harsh yeah.

The politics thing is ridiculous, after she finally gave her political opinions (that NO ONE is entitled to yet people acted as if they were and basically bullied her into it) people are still pushing this? just enjoy the songggggggggg

I mean it started out well, shame the chorus was such a letdown, and then the spelling verse...yeah no. As a whole, it's quite charming I guess and I like that there's a focus away from her media disputes, but she's maybe turned the kitsch factor a bit too high here. I mean this is no different to something from a Disney Channel movie. She does best when she does accessible pop songs but with a bit of depth and storytelling to them, she's certainly better than this.
I like it but does anyone else think it sounds just like Emeli Sande?!

What!!! Where did you get that from? Is there a specific song by Emeli that you think it’s like?

The glowing reception here...

Because it's tragic and embarrassing for someone of her calibre?

Other than the title and the ‘oooh’ parts I can’t hear a similarity.

I’m really liking it though. And that video is just wow. With LMYMMD i loved the video but the song on its own never clicked. This is definitely on par with Shake It Off as being a strong lead.

Every time I watch i notice something new.

I kinda think she’s like sampling herself in this too. The video in parts remind me of other Taylor videos and the way she sings certain lines in the song remind me of other Taylor songs but in a more grown up this is me now kinda way.
