March 8, 20196 yr Just realised that, oops Hopefully they'll do it with the lead from their next album. Think the second albums lead was their best chance unless they have a big return!
March 8, 20196 yr I assume we're only counting acts that have had success in the UK but never made Top 40? Because if not Kate Ryan might be a good shout as she's been big in most of Europe except the UK. Same for Lykke Li. (Neither have had any Top 40/75 hits) Some other interesting shouts: - Janelle Monae (she's never had a solo Top 40 only a feature on We Are Young with Fun) (2.8m monthly listens on Spotify) - Carrie Underwood (5.1m monthly listens on Spotify) - Solange (if it weren't for a one week #27 in 2009 lol) (3.9m monthly listens on Spotify) - Gryffin (7.7m monthly listens on Spotify) - ARIZONA (3.8m monthly listens on Spotify) Edited March 8, 20196 yr by cantthinkofaname
March 8, 20196 yr Um... surely like Beethoven is more famous than everybody mentioned here? He has had a hit. 0ouMaLRth-s
March 8, 20196 yr The closest that Avenged Sevenfold had of a top 40 hit was The Beast And The Harlot (#44 in 2006).
March 18, 20196 yr Tame Impala are in the second biggest font in Glastonbury poster, without a top 40 hit so they are probably the most famous act at the moment. @1106465023684198405 Edited March 18, 20196 yr by SKOB
March 18, 20196 yr The Velvet Underground may be the most famous act to never have a top 40 hit in either the singles chart or the albums chart. Really? Wow! I can't believe the album has never made the top 40.
March 18, 20196 yr Really? Wow! I can't believe the album has never made the top 40. The closest it ever got was #43 in 2014, which iirc was due to it being available for 99p on Amazon for one day - before that it first charted at #47 in 1985 also also had appearances in the chart in 1994, 2002, 2005 and immediately after Lou Reed's death in 2013. Must be a contender for the highest selling album to never make the top 40.

March 18, 20196 yr If there's debate on Tame Impala regarding top 40 status, then you could always categorise them even further because they don't even have a top 100 single, which gives them a fair bit less competition if that was the benchmark topic.
March 18, 20196 yr Kim Kardashian. Questionable whether she counts as an ‘artist’ but she did have one song which missed the top 40.

I mentioned this in my first post in here! I can see them finally breaking the top 100 whenever they release a new single / maybe when their album comes out if not (I think they are due a comeback very soon) although top 40 might still be a stretch.
March 18, 20196 yr I expect they will eventually get a top 100 hit, their last album 'Currents' is certified Gold and 'The Less I Know The Better' is certified Silver so they are well known.
March 18, 20196 yr To be fair, there are lots of big artists not at Glastonbury this year :P They're also headlining Coachella this year alongside Ariana Grande and Childish Gambino (both huge names) so I'd say they're very fitting for this title.

Ah, it's been over a week since I saw that so I forgot! I feel skeptical of Tame Impala ever having a charting single even in just the top 100 though. They struggle to even do it in Australia and they're way more famous here. I feel like part of the issue is that with their last two albums, they started the campaign with super indulgent (though great!) ~6 minute psych jams which kind of squanders the hype as the single after has an uphill battle to make an impression. They'd need to really change up in sound to suddenly become palatable to the chart.
