It was never given a proper push, all its chart appearances have been from X Factor boosts and the like. Its lack of streaming didn't help either.

This exactly. Hello My Love fit well with the current pop landscape. Better Man is just a very cliched ballad that sounds like what they were doing 15 years ago (by this time their sound became rather autopilot). I get why they would release a song like this, but it’s not going to appeal to the current audience like Hello My Love did.

Do they care about current audience or long time fans though?

I’ll Never Love Again is up to #35 after the Voice UK.

It was just outside the top 100 before the show aired I believe.

Getting those extra sales

It’s getting the balance right. Songs like this just don’t have any chart impact these days. It will go top 40 I am sure from the fan base, but won’t stick around as long as Hello My Love did. I imagine it would have been a good song to lead the album with, but where that’s not due anytime soon it seems a bit odd to push a song like this now.

Ok Better Man is obviously more for their older fans. If you will all notice on the comments sections of the video of Hello My Love, some wanted it slower or they miss the ballads or the track isn't Westlife. Also while uploading their old tracks on their youtube page, their old ballads are more popular. The release is also in time of the ticket sales opening of their Asian tour dates. On r2 last friday and long before the announcement of the 2nd single, they pitched in a 3rd single is in the works and Kian wanted it to be upbeat as they know what the 2nd release will be at that time already. If this will be less successful than HML, I hope they will release the third single faster like Pink or Jobros next month or before the start of their tour on May 22.

The video of better man is nicely done imo and back to basics, simple and maybe lesser budget and hype on radio and tv given this time by the label but I am not worried because I know they are still on the testing the waters stage and this is just the start and the album release in the last quarter is the one to watch for.

I don't see a song called Better Man being a hit in 2019 tbh, it's so late 90s (although so are Westlife but still)

I don't see what the title of the song has got to do with it being a hit lol. If Ed or Drake had released a song called Better Man there's no reason why it wouldn't be a big hit?

Better Man is hardly any different music wise than Perfect by Ed Sheeran a few years ago which was huge on sales and radio? I know it's Ed Sheeran where anything he releases would be a hit but still. Is Jonathan Rossi the only promo Westlife have this week? I take it it not like before where they would be on every available promotion slot available on release week. It a pity Hello My Love missed the top 10 due to a stupid release timing as it would have been a huge achievement 20 years on for a boy band in the streaming era on to have another top 10 which they most likely now will not be able to achieve another.
