Very pleased to see Flowers in the Top 10! Hopefully it can stay there a day or two so that exposure can build some buzz.

Overload nearly Top 100 despite no mention of it last night!

Overloaded - ie the Singles Collection, not the actual song. I should've made that clearer. :P

hope this generates enough buzz so that there is a demand for a proper album

I'm glad we get the Sugababes back in one form or another, but I do miss Heidi too.

She counter balanced the moody dark edge of the three originals.

I agree. Her vocals always stood out, even moreso than Keisha's an Mutya's.

mirror mirror on the wall who's the whitest/blondest of them all

That's easy to say but Heidi did always come across as more upbeat and lively than the others and that had nothing to do with the looks.

Now they got their name back so do you think they'll rerecord some of their old songs again with Siobhan

pretty much.

The funny thing is that vocally, what actually matters, it's the opposite. Keisha and Mutya have such strong, distinct voices that have always blended so well together. Siobhan's soft, light tone fits in really nicely.

That's one way to describe bad harmonies.

You know what, recording new versions on a Greatest Hits and a few new tracks, wouldn't be a bad move at all. Imagine the shade if they did Sweet 7 tracks, I'd kind of live for it.

They’re promising something for the anniversary so I’m assuming they’re re-recording something. A GH of 1.0/2.0 singles and some album tracks with a new unheard lead single would be quality I reckon. Drop than in like April and then build up to a October Tour and a September release of album 2/7/8 (delete as fits your viewpoint)
This is totally off topic, but how on earth is 'Round Round' only certified Silver, because that felt HUGE at the time and still gets airplay. Bizarre.

That's one way to show delusion. 2.0 harmonies were fine. The difference is that their vocals were never produced with harmony in mind. From 2.0 onward most songs were produced where one would take the lead in the chorus and the others provided background vocals.

Round Round was definitely a big hit at the time, but a few factors prevented it from huge sales!

- Physical sales were noticeably starting to wane in 2002.

39 singles sold more than 200,000 copies in 2002, compared to 54 in 2001 / 64 in 2000 / 87 in 1999.

Round Round was the 31st best seller of 2002 with 225,000 sales; the 31st best seller of 2001 sold 274,880 / 2000: 307,000 / 1999: 456,100.

So relatively speaking, a Round Round size of hit in the few years prior to its release would have attracted many more sales due to a stronger market. Honestly, going silver in 2002 was the sign of a big hit! Only 13 songs sold more than 400,000, and just 5 managed 600,000+. For a few years, going Gold/Platinum really was reserved for a handful of truly massive hits.

- Summertime was typically a low-ish selling period for singles. Round Round's sales while in the Top 10:

#1 - 79,000

#2 - 46,000

#3 - 27,000

#3 - 18,000

#7 - 17,000

= 187,000

...and it sold a further 38,000 copies during the rest of its 2002 chart run: 15-18-25-29-36-47-56-72-(out for 4 weeks)-92-106-119. [The rest of its run into 2003: 110-107-(out for 3 weeks)-183-166-197-(out for 1 week)-184-153-out]

- The Angels with Dirty Faces album came out two weeks after Round Round, which would have inevitably drawn some potential buyers away from purchasing the single.

By June 2009, Round Round had grown to 254,310 copies after a few years of download availability. Thanks to streaming, I would estimate its total sales to be around 330,000 now!

Going slightly off topic: It's funny to think there was a time when even Push the Button had only sold enough to be silver status. It sold 306,700 in 2005 (enough to be the 10th best seller of the year). By the end of 2006 its total had increased to ‭360,200‬. It passed 400,000 sometime before June 2009 (by then it had sold 420,982). It crossed over 600,000 in March 2019, and is now on 640,000.

Similarly for About You Now, it was 2007's 6th best selling single and it sold what in today's terms seems like a rather modest 346,420 copies (which increased to ‭453,170‬ at the end of 2008). 600,000+ was achieved in March 2017. Current figure is 812,000!

About You Now & Push the Button are quite significantly their strongest performers on streaming. Round Round does reasonably well but I imagine it's going to take a rather long time for it to get to gold status unfortunately.

Overall Sugababes are certainly "victims" of the 2000s being a bit of a poor moment for sales. By today's standards, Push the Button and About You Now would absolutely have been "millionaires"! I feel like Freak Like Me & Round Round would easily have been platinum too.

These kids today don't realise how hard it was back in the day when we couldn't just push the button to get our songs. We had to walk five miles in blizzard storms to get to the nearest shop to buy our singles - and sometimes they wouldn't even have the singles yet, so you had to order/reserve it via the store. :arrr:

in a way, I wish they had made a proper comeback single, an original song, instead of this cover

I know it's good for the buzz but seems to me like a wasted opportunity to get on Graham Norton for just this cover

Kind of true, I felt like Graham barely acknowledged them. I guess DJ Spoony is there to promote his album, but still

The amount of people in the fan base with this same stunningly shit take is grating. It’s not their single it’s not their album it’s not their project. They are guest features only. They can’t hijack someone else’s project or no one else would ever collaborate with them again.

They’ve been explicit that this was an opportunity they couldn’t pass up and isn’t part of their proper 2020 comeback.

This is an opportunity to:

1 - make it known to the whole world that they’ve got the name back

2 - remind the world what the Sugababes name stands for - excellent harmonies and banging tracks

3 - shake off the nerves and cobwebs of a first TV performance in 5.5 years and first release in 6.25 years

4 - test the waters for the response to the name (and it’s been massive. Huge upswing compared to flatline)

5 - pay homage to UK Garage given it’s one of their favourite genres and their first three albums have clear Garage influences

6 - and finally, get anticipation up for 2020

This has been an undeniable success. The girls will get major performance slots on TV on name alone. They will not be short of opportunity, the appetite for this track alone has proven that

It was DJ Spoony who was booked on Graham Norton, not them. If they hadn't done this then someone else would've taken their place instead.
