Oh that's great for Demi, it's definitely grown a lot in my affections since it was released, I preferred Confident at the time but Cool is now by far my favourite song of hers

A shame Break Free has dropped quite a bit but the top 100 is very Ariana heavy so I can't complain. A great debut for breathin too!

Five all time classics here <3

Kicking us off is Little Mix's lead single from their 2nd album 'Move', which vaults back up 30 places this year after three years of steady decline!! It's amazing to see Move back up this high, one of my fave girlband songs ever and the production/structure of the song still slaps so badly <3 Hopefully it can continue to climb next year, I'm kinda surprised its peak is as 'low' as 38 tbh!

The Fear is our only faller in this section as it takes place in its last time in ROTD :( This song is one that defines 2009 for me and I go back to all the time, lyrically its so clever and 8 year old me played this 24/7 when I was younger <3 The whole era was so iconic and the fear is the highlight of one of the best albums of the decade *.* Anyway this was a mid-lowish finish for the fear on its final go at this! It's had such a consistent run though, all 10 years placing between 10 and 48 and yay that it snaked top 10 one year <3

Future Oscar winner J-Lo also vaults up 40 places this year with anthem of life 'On The Floor'. Like the fear for '09, on the floor was a defining song of 2011 for me that I'd have constantly on repeat. It's fab to see this break into the top 50 for the first ever time and yeah I'm here for this continuing to climb more here! (esp once this returns next year by Oscar winner J-Lo x)

Finishing off this section we have two dance anthems that slap! Summertime Sadness (the remix or original) isn't anywhere near my Lana faves tbh but it's still so good and I'm always here for Lana getting a chart smash *.* (even if SS & Young and beautiful should've swapped chart runs cos they were both out around the same time xx). Anyway after a couple of years languishing around low top 100/just missing, SS vaults back up to 42 this year, just 11 places short of its previous peak in 2013! Prayer In C is another dance song I love by Lilywood who met in a cafe :jameela: Prayer In C is such a bop and also climbs massievely this year, finishing just shy of the top 40 after never previously breaking the top 100 before! Both dance classics scored the same amount of points *.*

I'm still shook (and a little horrified) at the Summertime Sadness remix, a song that is legitimately one of the most basic sounding, laziest remixes that I have ever heard, landing higher than the masterpiece that is Born to Die. Nostalgia is a helluva drug.

Also wtf that JLo hasnt been so high before with On the Floor!

Echoing the shock at 'On The Floor' never being top 50 until this year, glad to see that injustice finally resolved.

'The Fear' on the other hand, very impressive that it never missed a year in the top 50!

I... do not get Prayer In C being held in such high regard but there we go.

Tea!

Yeah, I mean it's only the best song in that section... much better place for it in the top 50. Such a great mood-setting song.

Though that's not entirely fair, Move is great for completely different reasons and the lyrics in The Fear are top notch.

Okay, sorry it's later than planned - I was not so well this week!

40 - 65 - 2015 Mark Ronson (feat. Bruno Mars) - Uptown Funk (76 -122 - 65 - 40) 208

39 - 47 - 2009 Girls Aloud - Untouchable (X - 39 - 147 - 199 - 207 - 262 - 120 - 178 - 47 - 39) 210

38 - 61 - 2011 Rihanna (feat. Drake) - What's My Name (36 - 65 - 60 - 23 - 31 - 59 - 8 - 61 - 38) 211

37 - 51 - 2016 xx - On Hold (101 - 51 - 37) 211

36 - 30 - 2016 Christine & The Queens - Tilted / Christine (38 - 30 - 36) 212

Into the top 40 with some high highs and some shocking lows. Let's start with those. Thankfully the lowest in this section goes to the abysmally dreary Uptown Funk which still sounds like the backing music to some kind of ad for insurance or a supermarket. At least it's not quite as bad as Sax. Somehow the song has reached a new peak this year, if only we had negative votes to give out eh. Straight after we have an absolute rising star managing to return to its early peak on its last year of eligibility as 2009's 6th highest song. Girls Aloud's top ten-missing final single pre-hiatus, an epic 6 minute long electro-ballad is playing in this arena with heavy hitters like the (yet to come) highest tracks for Lady Gaga and Calvin Harris, not too shabby! I'd imagine the girls managed a higher peaking song in past ROTDs (anyone know?), but Untouchable really has come on leaps and bounds to become a BuzzJack fave over the last few years, as its run suggests, the taste!

This section also features solid achievements for Christine (and the Queens) whose Tilted retains its 30-40 spot for the third year running since its 2016 debut, and a return to form for Rihanna whose What's My Name lands about midpack of where it usually ends up, this year claiming the title of Rih's third highest in the countdown. Finally, indie kings and queens The XX storm to a new high with their alt-yet-commercial triumphant 2016 comeback track On Hold, that sees them comfortably outpeaking even what seemed last year to be an impressive impact compared with what it managed on the official charts. Buzzjack loves indie, clearly!

Back to Sam for the next section! You'll hear more from me come the top 20 ;)

Interesting hearing an anti-Uptown Funk perspective, I've always considered it a well deserved hit and said as much before.

I do know there have been higher Girls Aloud songs, my erstwhile nemesis Sexy No No No was always hanging around the top 30 and Call The Shots got a top 10 placing a couple of times. Biology even managed 6th in the 2009 version of this.

This wasn't deliberately why I chose this section... 😋

Nah I never liked it. I thought it was potentially good but pretty derivative & also cheap sounding.

Surprised to see Uptown Funk this high, I don't begrudge its success at all but it still hasn't recovered from overplay so I'd happily never hear it again :kink:

Impressive for Untouchable to peak at #39 twice on the bookends of its chart run!

Happy to see Christine so high, what a song. Girlfriend deserved a bit better as well

damn I almost forgot about this

right, in the interests of getting it out of the way before the end of the year, I'm going to complete this before the weekend, jupiter/ultra if you want to do the sections you had marked down let me know before I get to them otherwise I'll plough right on through them.

going to have a bit more of an end of decade tinge to it now I feel

I'm happy to do em! I believe its with ultra the current one no?

Yeah and I'm guessing she's busy seeing as I sent her a PM and got no reply. It's no problem, I'll just double check which ones you were doing again and not do those, if maybe you can get them ready?
