I legitimately don't know who they can crown.

 

Karen from Finance has done dreadfully four weeks out of the five so far. Scarlet has the best track record but is a racist. Anita had the second best track record and is gone. Art is a returning queen who was already knocked out once. Kita and Elektra are from New Zealand and the NZ queens were obviously afterthoughts because originally Ru wanted to do Drag Race Australia. And Maxi Shield has been given a string of poor placements apart from for one week where imo she did the best and still wasn't given the win.

 

My only thinking (and you betcha I'm looking forward to reading the spoiler thread after the season is finished! but I'm enjoying theorising in the meantime) is that Karen will somehow rally for the second half of the season and win every episode going forward. Or perhaps Art will.

 

But I have a terrible sense of forboding that this episode was Scarlet being forgiven so they can start a redemption arc with her.

 

What the hell are they going to do if Karen and/or Art place Low the next two weeks and Scarlet picks up another win or two??

But I will say this too: I think Ru and Michelle genuinely don't know what can be said on tv stations elsewhere around the world. I've always thought Drag Race US is kind of coy with all the ways it avoids directly swearing, using actual names for genitals etc. etc. but I figured that's to get around US obscenity laws. But those don't apply everywhere. It's kind of crazy that they were more offended by the word 'piss' than they were by Kita literally eating dog crap from a jar and putting it up her nose.

 

I think it's easy to forget how much they've had to sanitise the show and the drag in general in order for it to fit broadcasting standards, especially once it moved from Logo to VH1. They've been doing this for over a decade now, so I guess it's understandable that both Michelle and Ru are a bit stuck in that mentality. Drag is often about pushing boundaries, but once you have in mind that this is going to air on television it's restricting. Even if this is specifically made for the Australian/NZ market I'm sure Ru has in mind that VH1 wants to air the English-language spin-offs.

I think the last episode was the best edited so far, it wasn't as choppy as the first few episodes and it flowed well.

 

Regarding Ru and Michelle applying a US mindset to this, I would agree. They need another Australian judge to balance the panel out more.

VH1 literally only airs the US Drag Race, they will know when they get the show commissioned what network they are doing it for - Stan was attached right away to this iirc. I get they will still probably kind of be used to how VH1 works and perhaps their mindset is informed n that way but if they can't change their way of looking at the show when they should be used to going and doing different shows by now, they shouldn't be on the panel. So fkn happy that Kita won a challenge and that the spoilers were wrong!! Now she just needs to win the talent show next week and we have ourselves an amazing WINNER :cheer:

Kita ATE that *.* Like to the point it was hard to tell which was which, and I think that's always a pretty good sign for a makeover. I think that might be one of the best makeovers ever? So so flawless and her partner really got into it which made all the difference, Kita injected her brand of fun into every aspect of the look as well as how it was presented on the main stage.

 

I actually kinda thought Elektra should have been high (again, I feel like I say this every week)? I agree her make-up wasn't the BEST but as Rhys said I think she was really smart to approach the look in the way she did knowing that make-up was not her strong suit. The judges love to pay her dust! Maybe I'm just biased but I did like her overall showing the second best, although a distant second to Kita. Karen's was cute but I think she yet again covered it up with the character instead of supplementing it, but I think in a makeover that's much more forgivable than it was for the design challenge, she did do well. The thing is she always has this realised campy character with so much thought out to it that you don't get the person underneath with either her or her partner. And it's weird because she's funny in the workroom, a warm and likeable personality, but almost everything she's done actually on the main stage has left me cold.

 

Art's was well done but there was no resemblance, which no matter how good you look, is the point of the challenge.

 

Definitely the right bottom 2, Scarlet's look for Brad was not flattering at all and Maxi just totally dropped the ball. I think Scarlet just thought the judges have eaten up everything she's put on the runway so making outfits was enough, but there was just no sparkle or pizazz to any of it and that showed. I hate to say that she absolutely MURDERED that lipsync though.

This episode was wild. Definitely a big step up though. The mini challenge was weirdly long? Like I feel like we literally got all ten animals and all three clues for each.

 

I also thought Kita and Eletrka were a clear top 2. I also thought it was really funny that they are trying their best to edit Art, Scarlet and Karen as the protagonists of the show and the other three as side characters yet fans are so much more invested in Kita, Elektra and Maxi.

 

Karen was even going on this episode about 'I havent won anything since week 1' as if she had been ALMOST winning all season not being in the bottom 3 most weeks.
