Posted August 31, 20195 yr 8q2WS6ahCnY It's 30 years since 'Cherish' was released in the UK as the third single from Like a Prayer. 'Cherish' marks a departure from the more complex themes explored in the previous two singles or elsewhere on the album - it's a light-hearted, doo-wop-style song that deals with love and relationships. It was the result of a sudden spell of super positivity and takes influence from Romeo & Juliet, which is also referenced in the song. Critics complimented the song for restoring balance on the album and saw it as a reminder of her True Blue work; the public reacted correspondingly, with 'Cherish' reaching the Top 3 in both the UK and US as well as #1 in Canada. 30 years on, how does it rate for you? Do you cherish or should it perish? (sorry)
August 31, 20195 yr I always connect Cherish with La Toya's much fatter and untalented sister's Love Will Never Do (Without You), probably because of the Herb Ritts video and the thematic "break" from serious issues. You have to admit that they sound good when played together. 0KCvVsNstjE
August 31, 20195 yr Its rather cheesy and a bit Stock Aitken Waterman-esque for me (maybe because a lot of pop sounded like that in 1989). But I really like it, especially the chorus. Edited August 31, 20195 yr by TheSnake
August 31, 20195 yr I don’t play this often but it is such a joy when I do. The video is one of my favourites. She looks gorgeous and the video totally complements the track. Herb Ritts had 48 to learn how to use a video camera.
August 31, 20195 yr I'm not totally huge on this. It's a bit too saccharine and "nice" for me. The video is gorgeous though.
September 1, 20195 yr Guilty pleasure! Especially the breakdown and build up again towards the end
September 2, 20195 yr Love it! So joyful and carefree, certainly one of her most uplifting songs.
September 2, 20195 yr For years it was actually my favourite song of hers, but I think in the past year 'Dress You Up' might have eclipsed it. I love it so much though, pure happiness and joy. Totally peeved that she doesn't like it though. :(

September 2, 20195 yr Oh, this is just trolling. Soon you'll claim Love Makes The World Go Round is your fave song. Give it a year, I'd say.
September 2, 20195 yr Author Love it! So joyful and carefree, certainly one of her most uplifting songs. Agreed! It offers some much needed light relief on the Like a Prayer album but is such a strong song in its own right too. The video is gorgeous, so simple but Madonna works the camera so well. I've noticed this song is pretty well remembered by the public. I know a couple of people who say this is one of their favourite Madonna singles.
