If the floods were in Sommerset the response would have been massively different. If there were no election, evil Tories wouldn't have even acknowleged the floods.

What was he suppose to do - part the waters like Moses?

Hmmm... act quicker, maybe. Deploy more help, apply for the EU funding to help with flooding. Knowing that flood risks were increasing, the Tory government in their infinite wisdom could've actually put better flood defences in place.

Just a few things off the top of my head

And had he done that the panicking media would have portrayed it as him parting the water like Moses. And don't deny it. They already compared him to the sun!!!
Didn't Boris yesterday deploy soldiers to S.Yorkshire to help with the clean up and announce they they'll give money to all businesses affected? Hardly nothing!

Hmmm when did the floods happens? when did he actually get up off his arse and go and visit the people there? When were these decisions made?

Given the people that live there actively heckled him for what he has done/ his absence in the face of the flooding, It can be said he has done slightly more than nothing - but his response was extremely slow and actually given the nature of what's happened not actually a great response.

But no doubt you probably think his slow response to what has happened was great

Took the opposition to get him to have a COBRA meeting, good old jezza!

His response was slow and he only had a COBRA meeting after Jeremy Corbyn had sent a letter to him about having one. A COBRA meeting should've been held within 24-48 hours given the extent of the flooding, with troops deployed in that time frame as well.

Nominations closed today At 4pm, so if there’s any unexpected or unannounced candidacies, we should hear about them fairly shortly.

I decided not to stand in the end. Couldn't find 10 nominees. :(

The Conservatives have promised to reduce overall migration if they win the general election, the home secretary, Priti Patel, has said.

“We will reduce immigration overall while being more open and flexible to the highly skilled people we need, such as scientists and doctors,” she said. “This can only happen if people vote for a Conservative majority government so we can leave the EU with a deal.”

She claimed immigration would “surge” if Jeremy Corbyn became prime minister, a claim the Labour said came from the “make-believe research department”.

The Tories said analysis of new research into Labour’s proposals for open borders suggested net migration could increase to 840,000 a year under Corbyn.

They said the analysis, also described as “fake news” by Labour, was based on official figures and the government’s own methodology.

According to the party, the research shows extending free movement to the rest of the world would result in average net immigration to the UK of 840,000 a year over the next 10 years. “This is equivalent to the combined populations of Manchester and Newcastle moving to the UK every single year,” the party said.

“This means that levels of net migration would more than treble if Labour introduced their proposals for completely open borders.”

The Tories added the analysis was “deliberately cautious and is likely to provide a significant underestimate of net inflows from non-EEA countries under Labour’s plans”.

The party also said maintaining free movement with existing EEA members would result in average net immigration to the UK of 260,000 a year over the next decade.

Patel said: “Under Corbyn’s Labour, immigration would surge and put huge strain on schools and our NHS. Jeremy Corbyn has no credible plan for how to deal with the consequences of his open borders policy.

“By contrast, the Conservatives will get Brexit done, end free movement and introduce an Australian-style points system so that we can control our borders and protect our public services.

Diane Abbott, Labour’s shadow home secretary, said: “This is more fake news from the Conservative party’s make-believe research department.

“Unlike the Tories, we won’t scapegoat migrants or deport our own Windrush-generation citizens.

“The damage done to our society has been through damaging Conservative cuts to our public services, not by EU nationals coming to work in them.”

Reducing overall immigration is music to my ears and I bet those of loys of other voters too.
Reducing immigration has been a Tory policy for the last decade, with targets to reduce net immigration to below 100,000. It has yet to happen. What makes you think they'll manage to get it done in the next parliament?

Maybe determination by our new PM?

Maybe determination by our new PM?

You mean the PM who, as mayor of London, said he was pro-immigration? That new PM? Why can you still not see that he will just say whatever he thinks will advance his career?

Maybe a genie granting them a wish?

Maybe saying a soundbite enough will magic something up?

Maybe their whole campaign is the same empty promises and slogans brought up in every single campaign to get people to hear want they want to hear and deliver on none of them?

Labour's always been lax on immigration. In 1997 they removed the Primary Purpose rules whereby spouses of UK citizens could be prevented by Embassies from entering the country if they suspected the marriage had just been to gain entry to the UK. Same for fiancees. Now it's much easier as there's just the income rule.

Don't you think everyone should want to advance their career though?

By Lying? and creating fake news - great way to go about things
