I think it's UMC (Universal Music Catalogue) that has handled these vinyl releases. It's definitely an oversight for the Spice Girls to not have an official music store :( I guess selling t-shirts and hoodies is more of a priority <_<

Jesus, if they had any sense, they could so easily take all the money from us! Their own website store should be selling copies of the albums in various formats...

Do they even have a record company at this stage, or is EMI just taking care of their back catalogue?

Universal Music Group is in charge of their discography. Many fans have speculated the girls have veto power over any releases UMG wants to do. Hence, why we have never got a rarities album or deluxe editions of the albums.

I understand the girls are protective of their legacy, rightfully so. Not releasing deluxe/collector editions of the 3 albums is a head scratcher.

If you do you should get it from HMV, it's currently in a 2 for £25 deal, if you can find another item to buy with it! Whereas it's £18.99 on Amazon.

Yeah I noticed that thanks, need to find something else I like

The fact ‘Forever’ was #1 on cd/vinyl and pop for a couple of days and is still at #1 on the vinyl chart on amazon is great as it gives the album ‘visibility’ which means more exposure. This album doesn’t get the attention that Spice and SW does, so I’m excited for this release.

The big problem with the Spice Girls is they aren't under any label contract. So basically Universal holds the rights to the back catalogue but they are not really any connection to the girls apart from I'm assuming having contact with the girls management. So stuff like the girls webstore is run by the girls management not a record label which it normally always is with artists.

Without a label they essentially have no pressure or influence from/for selling records or music. The girls involvement in the vinyl will have been them signing off its release. Where as if they were under contract or worked closely with the label you might get signed copies, the girls pictured with the vinyl or some promotion beyond a social media post on the girls individual social media.

From what I'm aware the label does the social media posts for the Spice Girls and the girls management just use it when they have merch to flog or when the tour was on. There was a fairly long spell of no activity in September last year on their media and that was when Modest had parted with the girls and Oz tour fell through so universal took control of the social media than let it die. A fair few non active bands have social media from labels to keep streams ticking over and the fans engaged like Destiny's Child.

I'm assuming if the girls do manage to your or get something together for 25 years their management will take back control of the social media.

Thanks for the information Sammy. It makes sense they don't milk their discography since they have no record label pressure to do so. I find behind the scenes music stuff so fascinating.

Welcome to the forum by the way :yahoo:

Basically it sucks because if the label and the girls/their management worked together closely we might get more out of the girls like music sold on their Web store or cassettes. I guess for the label it is a bit of a gamble releasing anything Spice Girls as they can't guarantee any involvement from the girls beyond social media posts.

I hope for the big 25th anniversaries next year the girls and the label can come together better to celebrate with interesting releases. All 4 anniversaries next year are huge, wannabe, SYBT, Spice and 2 become 1. All could have vinyl, cassette and cd re-releases if the girls play ball.

Deluxe editions of albums are mostly for did hard fans. Are legacy artists normally required to promote those beyond a few social media posts?

They are sold on their official webstore for starters.

Mariah Carey is doing a full on promo tour for her recent re-editions. I guess it depends on the artist and the plan around the Delux.

Dua Lipa for instance consistently promoted the Delux of her last album by releasing singles from it. It's different nowadays with streaming, I guess, and it would make sense for them to promote it via some interviews and social media posts.

They definitely need to start selling it on their website though, it's embarassing that they dont...

Yeah, that makes sense. Most retail stores don't carry CDs anymore. It is pretty embarrassing they are not selling their vinyls on their official website.

I love how Mariah Carey is celebrating her 30th anniversary by releasing vinyls of her entire catalog along with a rarities album. Hopefully other artists take note. It makes sense most record labels want their A list talent to promote a deluxe/anniversary edition of an album so they can maximise profits.

It is ridiculous they don't sell their own music on their website and instead flog T-shirts and other merchandise! I mean they could take advantage and put their solo stuff on their too to attract more sales for their solo albums via their official site as there will be younger new fans who are oblivious to their solo careers, it could help shift a few more copies.

What do we think about trying to get Forever to chart on its vinyl release week?

The vinyl pre-orders have gotten off to a much better start than Spiceworld (me and Jay had a check and we couldn't find Spiceworld going higher than #8 on Amazon bestsellers list when announced where as forever went to #1) also Forever has been in the top 1,000 on Amazon since announcement and I'm sure Spiceworld was quickly down into the 3 to 10k range on Amazon.

I feel like Forever has a bit of a special place in our hearts and feels so over looked by the girls so often. So it having a moment to shine would be justice I feel. I'm planning on downloading Forever when the vinyl is released and streaming it.

Even if we just got Forever in the top 20 of iTunes for a couple of days would be nice to see but I feel like if the ball got rolling and it went top 100 on itunes people would get behind it and download it too.

I am IN!! I shall be downloading the album on a few platforms that week and have bought the Vinyl. It will pretty much be on streaming too throughout that week eheh :yahoo:

I might even create a new Apple account for it so I can redownload it on iTunes :teresa:

This, for me, is the most exciting release of the last few years, and I am including Mel C and Emma's latest albums in that too lol

I think a lot feel like that as we just never expected Forever to get its moment in the sun.

The fact the vinyl is gatefold and has art cards is a great touch too. I only have amazon so will download off there but tempted to get iTunes just for that week to download Forever to push it up the iTunes chart more. I reckon 20 downloads would get it top 100 on itunes.

I’m in, of course  I really hope we can get people on Spice Circle motivated to take part.
I'm here but from Italy it doesn't seem possible to place the order on Amazon UK or Itunes UK ... do you know a solution?
