Posted November 11, 20195 yr It's coming close to being the most wonderful time of the year when Christmas songs take over the official chart and chart runs of normal songs get ruined. Anyway here's me from last year to explain the poll (with edits for the current year). I know it's a little bit early but Mariah Carey is already top 100 on Spotify so let's have some predictions. Remember, these are predictions for the post-Christmas chart (i.e. the chart that gets announced on 27th December), as this will include Christmas Day streams (which falls on a Wednesday this year) and so the effect for Christmas songs will be the biggest on this week. For the purposes of counting, any song that gets a seasonal boost from Christmas will count as a Christmas song (including songs like 'Stay Another Day' which aren't explicitly Christmas related). Also, this year the vast majority Christmas songs are subject to ACR for the entirety of their run, due to new rules excluding songs older than 3 years from getting a reset, but streaming is also bigger than ever before so the Christmas chart regulars should have no problem charting despite their ACR status. Last year's results were 27 top 40 and 56 top 100! Well done to the 5 who predicted the first question correctly and the 3 who predicted the second correctly. New peaks for quite a few of them too. How many in the top 40 (post-Christmas chart) >25 [ 5 ] ** [10.00%] 21-25 [ 2 ] ** [4.00%] 16-20 [ 10 ] ** [20.00%] 11-15 [ 17 ] ** [34.00%] <10 [ 16 ] ** [32.00%] How many in the top 100 (post-Christmas chart) >60 [ 5 ] ** [10.00%] 51-60 [ 3 ] ** [6.00%] 41-50 [ 11 ] ** [22.00%] 31-40 [ 13 ] ** [26.00%] <30 [ 18 ] ** [36.00%] Total Votes: 57 and the songs that made the chart were 2) Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You 3) Wham - Last Christmas 4) The Pogues feat Kirsty MacColl - Fairytale Of New York 6) Band Aid - Do They Know It's Christmas 7) Michael Buble - It's Beginning To Look a Lot Like Christmas 8) Leona Lewis - One More Sleep 9) Shakin' Stevens - Merry Christmas Evryone 10) Elton John - Step Into Christmas 11) Chris Rea - Driving Home For Christmas 12) Wizzard - I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday 13) Ariana Grande - Santa Tell Me 16) Brenda Lee - Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree 17) Slade - Merry Xmas Everybody 18) John and Yoko - Happy Xmas (War Is Over) 20) Paul McCartney - Wonderful Christmastime 22) Darlene Love - Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) 23) Katy Perry - Cozy Little Christmas 24) Sia - Santa's Coming For Us 26) Boney M - Mary Boy's Child/Oh My Lord 28) Justin Bieber - Mistletoe 29) Andy Williams - It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year 30) Michael Jackson and Jackson 5 - Santa Claus Is Coming To Town 31) Bing Crosby - White Christmas 36) East 17 - Stay Another Day 37) Kelly Clarkson - Underneath The Tree 38) Mud - Lonely This Christmas 39) Idina Menzel feat Michael Buble - Baby It's Cold Outside 41) Bobby Helms - Jingle Bell Rock 42) The Darkness - Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End) 44) Michael Buble - Holly Jolly Christmas 46) The Waitresses - Christmas Wrapping 47) Coldplay - Christmas Lights 48) Bruce Springsteen - Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town 51) Cliff Richard - Mistletoe and Wine 53) Kylie Minogue - Santa Baby 54) Dean Martin - Let It Snow Let It Snow Let It Snow 56) Nat King Cole - The Christmas Song 58) The Ronettes - Sleigh Ride 59) Greg Lake - I Believe In Father Christmas 62) Gwen Stefani - White Christmas 63) Elvis Presley - Blue Christmas 65) The Pretenders - 2000 Miles 69) John Williams - Somewhere In My Memory 71) Gwen Stefani feat Blake Shelton - You Make It Feel Like Christmas 73) Eartha Kitt - Santa Baby 74) Frank Sinatra - Let It Snow Let It Snow Let It Snow 77) Jose Feliciano - Feliz Navidad 79) Sam Smith - Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas 82) Michael Buble - Santa Claus Is Coming To Town 84) Brett Eldredge/Meghan Trainor - Baby It's Cold Outside 85) Jona Lewie - Stop The Calvary 89) Perry Como - It's Beginning To Look a Lot Like Christmas 94) Chuck Berry - Run Rudolph Run 96) Tony Bennett - Winter Wonderland 98) Glee Cast - White Christmas 100) Frank Sinatra - Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
November 11, 20195 yr Looking forward to the Home Alone background music hit returning to the charts! :cheer: Hope Darlene Love finally gets some chart action this year.
November 11, 20195 yr Somewhere in My Memory is brilliant, one of my favourite Christmas songs. It's more than just background music given how prominently it's used in the first 2 films.
November 12, 20195 yr Author I'm going to predict 29 and 62 for now, should be a bit more than last year due to the timing.
November 12, 20195 yr Lowkey hoping that Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer will chart for the first time.
November 12, 20195 yr It's going to be a huge effect with Christmas on a Wednesday, the biggest it possibly could be. 30+ in the top 40 I would guess, let's hope they at least end up in a slightly different order to last year with some new peaks.
November 26, 20195 yr Author Looks like Christmas is already having a bigger chart effect this year. To compare; positions from the same week, last year: 34 65 88 Mariah Carey ~ All I Want For Christmas Is You 52 RE 79 Wham! ~ Last Christmas 66 RE 90 The Pogues ~ Fairytale Of New York (feat. Kirsty MacColl) 88 RE 71 Band Aid ~ Do They Know It's Christmas? 94 RE 24 Michael Bublé ~ It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas This year we have two new additions in the Little Mix and Ellie Goulding efforts, plus Ariana Grande and Shakin Stevens are also set to re-enter (alongside all the songs listed above).
November 26, 20195 yr OCC still use an average for streams on thursdays right? If so I can see the Top 100 having 70+ Xmas songs. The top 40 26-30 although it wouldn't surprise me if it ends up being 30+.
November 27, 20195 yr I can definitely see it being 30+ top 40 and 70+ top 100! I'll go with 31 and 73 respectively.
November 27, 20195 yr Its the acr rule that got me torn on a level playing field i could see 30+, and 70+ , but im thinking 20 and 60
November 27, 20195 yr There's guaranteed to be more this year based on the fact Xmas day is on the optimal day from a chart-perspective. It's frustrating though that it's always the week they never broadcast.
