It's coming close to being the most wonderful time of the year when Christmas songs take over the official chart and chart runs of normal songs get ruined. Anyway here's me from last year to explain the poll (with edits for the current year).

I know it's a little bit early but Mariah Carey is already top 100 on Spotify so let's have some predictions. Remember, these are predictions for the post-Christmas chart (i.e. the chart that gets announced on 27th December), as this will include Christmas Day streams (which falls on a Wednesday this year) and so the effect for Christmas songs will be the biggest on this week. For the purposes of counting, any song that gets a seasonal boost from Christmas will count as a Christmas song (including songs like 'Stay Another Day' which aren't explicitly Christmas related).

Also, this year the vast majority Christmas songs are subject to ACR for the entirety of their run, due to new rules excluding songs older than 3 years from getting a reset, but streaming is also bigger than ever before so the Christmas chart regulars should have no problem charting despite their ACR status.

Last year's results were

27 top 40 and 56 top 100! Well done to the 5 who predicted the first question correctly and the 3 who predicted the second correctly.

New peaks for quite a few of them too.

How many in the top 40 (post-Christmas chart)

>25 [ 5 ] ** [10.00%]

21-25 [ 2 ] ** [4.00%]

16-20 [ 10 ] ** [20.00%]

11-15 [ 17 ] ** [34.00%]

<10 [ 16 ] ** [32.00%]

How many in the top 100 (post-Christmas chart)

>60 [ 5 ] ** [10.00%]

51-60 [ 3 ] ** [6.00%]

41-50 [ 11 ] ** [22.00%]

31-40 [ 13 ] ** [26.00%]

<30 [ 18 ] ** [36.00%]

Looking forward to the Home Alone background music hit returning to the charts! :cheer: Hope Darlene Love finally gets some chart action this year.
Somewhere in My Memory is brilliant, one of my favourite Christmas songs. It's more than just background music given how prominently it's used in the first 2 films.

I'm going to predict 29 and 62 for now, should be a bit more than last year due to the timing.
Lowkey hoping that Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer will chart for the first time.
It's going to be a huge effect with Christmas on a Wednesday, the biggest it possibly could be. 30+ in the top 40 I would guess, let's hope they at least end up in a slightly different order to last year with some new peaks.

Looks like Christmas is already having a bigger chart effect this year.

To compare; positions from the same week, last year:

34 65 88 Mariah Carey ~ All I Want For Christmas Is You

52 RE 79 Wham! ~ Last Christmas

66 RE 90 The Pogues ~ Fairytale Of New York (feat. Kirsty MacColl)

88 RE 71 Band Aid ~ Do They Know It's Christmas?

94 RE 24 Michael Bublé ~ It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas

This year we have two new additions in the Little Mix and Ellie Goulding efforts, plus Ariana Grande and Shakin Stevens are also set to re-enter (alongside all the songs listed above).

OCC still use an average for streams on thursdays right? If so I can see the Top 100 having 70+ Xmas songs. The top 40 26-30 although it wouldn't surprise me if it ends up being 30+.
I can definitely see it being 30+ top 40 and 70+ top 100! I'll go with 31 and 73 respectively.
Its the acr rule that got me torn on a level playing field i could see 30+, and 70+ , but im thinking 20 and 60

There's guaranteed to be more this year based on the fact Xmas day is on the optimal day from a chart-perspective.

It's frustrating though that it's always the week they never broadcast.
