River is an amazing Xmas song by Joni Mitchell

She's one of the best songwriters win the history of music, and you can clearly see in the lyrics of this song

Pretty sure it ws never a single, so it's a sorta lost classic, and sure is not on any playlist

lots of positive points to Ellie for covering it <3

you're missing on a great song if you've never heard it

the lyrics are a million times better than your usual xmas song

It's also one of my favourite Xmas songs, I even learnt the piano part of it. Hopefully a top 40 hit this year even if it is the Ellie cover (which does sound good anyway at least from what you can hear of it in the YT clip between her talking all over it)

Gutted Robbie is behind Coldplay, did not expect that at all. Any chance he can make it up? Great for Westlife, will probably climb ober the next few weeks too!

On a seperate note, that HAIM song is really classy, excellent.

I can't at Liam Gallagher in September actually selling only 10k or so less than Coldplay in November. Talk about underperformance...

Liam Gallagher is massive I don’t know why people underestimate him on here.

Your right it's a wonderful song. Not overly Xmas though maybe just the piano chords a bit.

I think the opening lyrics are a clue as well:

"It's coming on Christmas,

They're cutting down trees.

Putting up reindeer

Singing songs of joy and peace,"

It's more Christmassy than Stay Another Day anyway.

We'll that's true tbf, maybe a classic needs to be played every year to be part of the culture.
Just checked Apple Music and it's one of the top songs on the Acoustic Christmas list.

I think people on here massively underestimate both Robbie and Liam.

I can't stand Liam Gallagher but he is easily one of the biggest names in music, and adored by Oasis fans. He'll be around for a long time.

Robbie is like one of the biggest artists in the UK of all time. He is only behind Elvis (by one album) for the most #1 albums by a solo artist ever, and he has 5 albums that are in the best selling albums in the UK ever.

Surely Coldplay won’t be as front-loaded as Westlife and actually sell past the opening weekend! I’m guessing 75k total by the end of the week.
I assume that the preorders for both Coldplay and Robbie will not be as big as Say Westlife as they both only went up for preorder in the late Q3?

But river is a gorgeous song would not have discovered it if it wasnt on glee though (suppose they had to go more obscure for third christmas episode/album)

Wasn't 'White Christmas' released in June or was that when Bing wrote it?

Wasn't 'White Christmas' released in June or was that when Bing wrote it?

It was, but that's because it was on the Holiday Inn soundtrack (which is only partly set at Christmas).

from the occ page

Frozen 2 was only released in cinemas last week (Nov. 22) but it's breakout hit has already been established: Into The Unknown.

The defiant song, performed by Idina Menzel (aka Elsa the Snow Queen) and Norwegian singer-songwriter Aurora, is charging ahead as the film's most popular track.

In today's UK sales flash (Nov.26), based on sales and streams compiled by the Official Charts Company, the track is at Number 40 and is expected to climb further this week. Since last Friday, Into The Unknown has been streamed almost 600,000 times.

Another version of the song performed by Panic! At The Disco, which is played during the film's credits, is at Number 75.

There isnt a let it go (show yourself is closest personally) sized song on the soundtrack but its still a pretty good acheivement if this manages to go top 40

Side note nothing against PATD interesting choice for a pop version (Demi made a lot of sense her past and being a child disney star) but it works weirdly
