2019 91 NASA

The 2nd album track from 'Thank U, Next' to appear is NASA. This song is just really nicely written, the metaphor works well and the chorus is very catchy. The instrumental undeniably bops too. Everything you'd want in an album track.

We share the same favourite album of 2019  I feel like 'thank u, next' is just what she needed after 'Sweetener' was a bit all over the place in direction, as much as I love most of the songs individually from it. This new album just felt so right in every way - no features, brilliant lyrics, a largely stripped back personal feel but with bops here and there for good measure... quickly became my 2nd favourite album of hers after 'Dangerous Woman' <3

The amount of songs by her that are going to appear puts my own stanning to shame though  wow! Of those announced so far, 'needy' is pretty nice but one of my least favourites on the album, however, 'NASA' is brilliant! I wish it had been a single - don't get me started on those missed opportunities :')

I also really like: Old Town Road, Bullet From A Gun, What Do You Mean, Don't Start Now, Kiss And Make Up + Blinding Lights ^_^

No surprise to discover TUN is you're favourite album of the year too :D I have to agree that it sounds much more cohesive than Sweetener. I think I'd have to say My Everything is (just about) still my favourite album of hers just because of how many memories I have attached to it. I listened to it everyday for like a year.

You can never have too much Ariana in a countdown :) Their certainly was so many more opportunities for singles.

Glad to see you're liking some of the non-Ariana tracks too

I can't help but move when this one comes on, it's just so unashamedly joyous. It's so charming that nobody seemed to notice that Chance dropped the n-word during his performance of it on Ellen. A very meme-y video for this including clips from It's Always Sunny, Rick & Morty, SpongeBob, Space Jam and, of course, Shrek.

Ooh some great stuff in here so far! I'll try and make sure I follow this, I need to cherish a rare EOY other than my own that will have so many rap songs in it (probably more than mine actually). x

91. Ariana Grande - NASA one of the better album tracks off 'thank u, next'

92. The Weeknd - Blinding Lights

93. Lute, Mez, Omen & DaVionne - Sleep Deprived I didn't much care for most of the more R&B leaning songs off the Dreamville album but this one was probably the best of the ones I listened to (I was mostly only checking for the J.I.D tracks ngl)

96. AJ Tracey - Cat Pack

99. Doja Cat & Tyga - Juicy one of my biggest guilty pleasures of the year, utter trash but such a bop at the same time

101. Young Thug ft J. Cole & Travis Scott - The London

105. Megan Thee Stallion ft Nicki Minaj & Ty Dolla $ign - Hot Girl Summer

106. Young T & Bugsey ft Headie One - Don’t Rush much better than 'Strike A Pose' imo, wish this was a bigger hit

108. Dua Lipa & Blackpink - Kiss And Make Up

109. Flipp Dinero - Leave Me Alone

110. J. Cole, Lute & DaBaby - Under The Sun a better song from Dreamville, DaBaby's verse on this is really good in particular

112. Dua Lipa - Don’t Start Now

113. AJ Tracey & Skepta - Kiss And Tell

114. Skepta ft J Hus - What Do You Mean

117. Skepta - Bullet From A Gun

119. Taylor Swift - Paper Rings underrated bop

120. Lil Nas X - Old Town Road I kind of felt like I should have included this in my own EOY as a token for how impactful it is, ultimately the novelty did slightly wear off though. Also the Young Thug/Mason Ramsey remix is better because of Mason's iconic verse x

J.I.D was all-over the Dreamville album and was certainly a massive part of the standout tracks so if you were checking out for one artist in particular he's was a solid shout as he definitely didn't disappoint.

That's a pretty spot-on description of Juicy to be fair.

While Strike A Pose ended higher here (it's the next song) I do think I will prefer 'Don't Rush' over time too.

God I did hear that Mason Ramsey remix once

Aitch's EOY History:

2019 89 Strike A Pose (Young T & Bugsey ft Aitch)

Hook kings Young T & Bugsey get their 2nd EOY top 100 entry with Strike A Pose. I'm not a fan of their verses but their chorus are always killer and that's the only reason I got into this track. It's no Ay Caramba but it's still got something to it. I really don't like Aitch to the point where the first time I listened to the Keisha & Becky remix I audibly said 'thank God' when Tion Wayne begins to cut over the end of his verse but this is, for me, the best he's ever sounded. Although I don't mind his contribution on Pop Boy so maybe he's growing on me.

Hi Lewis!

So far, from your list I enjoy:

89. Young T & Bugsey ft Aitch - Strike A Pose

90. Chance The Rapper ft Smino - Eternal Really enjoyed the song and the album, as much as some people want me to hate it, looking at you, Fantano!

91. Ariana Grande - NASA

105. Megan Thee Stallion ft Nicki Minaj & Ty Dolla $ign - Hot Girl Summer

106. Young T & Bugsey ft Headie One - Don’t Rush

108. Dua Lipa & Blackpink - Kiss And Make Up Love Dua Lipa so much, this song is great, as well as Don't Start Now too.

112. Dua Lipa - Don’t Start Now Dua Lipa is the female Michael Jackson in my chart, no sarcasm at all.

114. Skepta ft J Hus - What Do You Mean

118. Ariana Grande - Needy

119. Taylor Swift - Paper Rings

120. Lil Nas X - Old Town Road

Great list so far!

Everyone else seemed to hate The Big Day so I'm glad it's not just me that enjoyed it. Eternal is really nice.

Blinding Lights is, at the very least, the most unique sounding Weeknd song is a while so I'm not surprised that people are reacting to it more than Heartless.

Bold claim to compare anyone to the MJ. High praise indeed. :o

I can certainly see Blinding Lights hanging around for a while for The Weeknd.

I haven't got into Don't Start Now as much as I would have wanted but it certainly sounds like a big hit so was probably the perfect comeback for her.

I share your thoughts about Old Town Road.

A song that seemed to kill any momentum in both artists careers after High Hopes seemed to put Brendon & Panic! right back on the map. I enjoy this song but it's clearly not what Taylor needed to give her a smash after the relative disappointment of the Reputation era. Unpopular opinion. but the slightly cringy talking adlibs are actually always my favourite part of any Taylor track so I was very disappointed to hear that "Spelling Is Fun!!!!!!" had been dropped for the album version. #JusticeForSpelling

The only appearance from Krept & Konan in this year's top 100 even if I wouldn't really say it's my favourite from Revenge Is Sweet. It hasn't done nearly well as the other song with the same name, Kyle & Lil Yachty's 'iSpy' which was an EOY top 10 hit a couple of years ago but still deserves come credit. Some nice wordplay as ever from K&K and Headie spits a decent verse too.

Dave & AJ's cover of Alex From Glasto's 'Thiago Silva' lands at 86. I remember not really liking this one when it was first released in 2016 but thank god for Glastonbury for making me appreciate it. If anyone else is a fan of songs named after PSG players, they supposedly have 'Kylian Mbappe' recorded and ready to drop sometime this year.

This is The Weeknd on auto-pilot but fortunately I'm a fan so I don't mind too much. I do hope there's much better than this on the album though. This is by far the lowest he's dropped out in an EOY countdown for me after debuting in my charts in 2014. (2014 - 24th, 2015 - 2nd, 2016 - 10th, 2017 - 16th, 2018 - 8th).

This song verges on the line of being annoying (especially as there's no more irritating phrase for someone to say to you than 'calm down') but I think she just about stays on the right side of that line. I was anxious going into Lover having not fully loved Me nor this but I ended up being relieved by its quality (just like with Reputation). Having now heard the full album I'm astonished her team thought that these 2 were the best choices with to lead the album.

This song really got overshadowed when the album was released but listening to it now, it is a really good song. The lyrics are about a toxic relationship and its effects on his mental health but it's not too serious. There's space for some funny lyrics ("A minion with opinions told me that I shouldn't think so hard, that s**t just made me think so hard I couldn't sleep a wink", "Washed my red flags with my white flags and now all my laundry's pink") and some cool use of autotune.

I think Bullet From a Gun was my favourite of the charting Skepta songs this year, felt like it had a bit more meaning than the others.

Don't Start Now is a great comeback for Dua, shame it missed the top spot but I loved Dance Monkey so can't complain :P Kiss and Make Up was great as well!

Giving Sleep Deprived a listen now - don't think it's my sort of thing but certainly a good theme to base a song on.

There are some really personal and reflective lyrics in Bullet From A Gun so I can see why you'd think that.

I would have preferred Don't Start Now at #1 over Dance Monkey. I'm fairly neutral on DM whereas for everyone else it's seems to be like marmite.

Thank you for commenting :D

It was great to see Skepta finally get another top 20 hit after Rescue Me in 2010 but this does feel like a bit of a random one to (alongside What Do You Mean) to do it. Shutdown & That's Not Me both felt huge where this one already feels a bit forgotten about. It's a pretty fun song with a nice video but not troubling Skepta's very best.
