There's also this piece that's now surfacing:

At least 15 MPs letting homes and renting another on expenses

At least 15 MPs are each letting out a London home for more than £10,000 a year while renting another property on expenses, the BBC has found.

The MPs, of whom 13 are Conservatives and three are ministers, are claiming up to £22,920 a year for rent payments.

Labour need to keep pushing the sleaze angle as it's really hurting the Tories.

I was a bit young at the time, but the expenses scandal I'm sure had a massive effect on the Labour Government. Think everyone is right this could be the beginning of the end, as it's a story the Spin can't stop. I think the main thing is that Labour get their house in order with these stories too, so it becomes Government corruption rather than MP corruption, as the latter is no good for anyone, especially in today's volatile political climate.

(it's one poll!

but also this is what we like to see)

~

Greens have started gaining council seats in places where there isn't really much of an alternative but Tory, if anything, that'll be how they make inroads and they're going to need to provide some good council results and gain more of a media profile among environment news - just think that UKIP was doing much better with that sort of vote share but that's because our insane press was happy to use them as a stick to beat the Tories with back then

Wow it's been a while since we've seen a poll like that :cheeseblock:

Imagine what Labour would be doing right now with an actually popular and dynamic leader.

Yeah, all these pieces 'surfacing', as great as it is, it is just another reminder how our polls, how the country, is predicated on what the media pick and choose to focus on - they could have surfaced these stories any time, because it's not like it was any big secret that the majority of Conservatives had outside interests.

They like focusing on sleaze, it gives them clicks and is one of the few topics that they're aligned with us on, but more importantly, they've fallen out of love with the Conservative government (the Telegraph has been ranting about how awful and left-wing the Tories are for ages), so that, their choosing to focus on this, now, is what brings down a government, not the deaths they cause.

and should they choose it to be, this will all be forgotten by the time of the next election, or someone in Labour will be found to have something dodgy, though it seems like the Labour leadership is surprisingly reacting well and so far is showing a pretty tight ship.

As Peter Oborne tweeted last week - say it quietely, but it looks like this is finally the beginning of the end for Boris Johnson. Thank fuck. Wonder if they'll (The Tories, that is) dispose of him before the next GE in an unashamed attempt to shapeshift and distance themselves from him? I just find them ALL so unbelievably out-of-touch and infuriating.. taking the £80/month boost from UC and then whinging that £82,000 a year, plus expenses, is hard to get by on...

I'm not convinced it's the beginning of the end for the Tories though. It's worth remembering that mid-term typically provides a hit to most governments popularities. If the election ends up being May 2024, that's still a very long way off.

Also we know how ruthless the Conservative Party is, Boris replaced May because of her f*** up of Brexit despite her still having a functioning government. So it will be interesting who replaces him in late 2022 and how much damage limitation they can do. I think that most people's immediate priority is shifting from Covid to the economy is the big deal here.

We’re still like 2.5 years from a GE, that’s still a long long long time politically, long enough to wash away some of the stench of this anyway
What are the chances we get an election before May 2024 and by what mechanism? I'm hoping we get one sooner than later, but I can see the conservatives trying to hold on to their majority for as long as possible.

Boris Johnson's pushing through a bill at the moment that will scrap the FTPA (a mess anyway and does need scrapping) and return the power to call the election to him, which means realistically we'll only get one before then if the Tories lead significantly in the polls - he doens't want to be the second tory leader in a row to fall on that banana peel.

Being the incumbent government has always bestowed the right to call the election when it suits you so you can't really fault them on that.

But let's not forget Boris is box office (like it or loathe it). People vote for him because he's funny and a joker, he's a complete populist leader. There isn't anyone else in the wings like him. Sure The Tories will soon look to the next leader, but there isn't another leader like him. I really can't see Rishi translating as well for starters or Liz Truss. Plus the reason Boris did so well was that he was completely different to May. So that means they move back to the Centrist territory, which could work but I can't see the next Tory leader being anyone connected to Remain in every shape or form.

There's still ages to go before the next GE, I do think the Tories would have ideally tried to have one in 2022, but can't see one happening before 2023 at the very earliest.

Uff, Labour would be doing so much better under a real leader. We need someone FAR less radical than Starmer. The radical centre are destroying the party. With all this evil Tory sleaze and corruption, under Corbyn pre-establishment ALL-OUT HYSTERIC ATTACK, Labour would be bubbling under 50%. Starmer is just too radical. He isn't as radical as the evil Tories under Mad May oe Bojo, but he isn't much better.

Eeexactly! Get radical Starmer OUT!!

As good as this is, with so long until the next election, I can't help but feel that they'll realise Boris is the problem and replace him with Rishi Sunak, who providing he isn't hopelessly bad/pisses off the media, could keep their majority. I really can't see Labour rising to the challenge with the leader they have, the most we can hope for is a hung parliament.

I've gotta say as bad as all the sleaze is, I didn't think it would be that that would make people wake up, it's like the pandemic never happened!

I know we're a bit away from the GE, but the trend line for Labour is above the conservatives for the first time since the 2019 GE.

Hopefully it'll last a while at least.

It’s good to see but the problem is that the Tory vote has come down to Labour rather than Labour breaking 40% which shows the sleaze and corruption is having an affect, rather than Labour winning the arguement.
  • 3 weeks later...
Good to see Labour on 40% in a couple any less and it’ll be a temporary lead!

:eyes:

I still think it is too muvh to ask to get rid of this government in our one party elected dictatorship, but hmm. Maybe this is our last chance to do so! Starmier needsto bring in pr and Levinson 2 IMMEDIATELY. We can then summsrily kick him out for a socialist after he has reversed the fascist dictates of this regime.

step 1: get starmer elected

step 2: kick him out immediately

step 3: ???

step 4: socialist paradise?

I've been loving the polls the last few days, just the thought of the Tories losing 100+ seats at an election is exciting me way too much.
