I hope Liz goes mad and calls a snap election. *_*

She should do this if she has any integrity (she doesn't). By not doing so she's riding BoZo's coattails. Put your money where your mouth is, get your own mandate and let the people decide.

TRUR drmocracy is anathema to the Tories. It is why the Daily Heil id SCREECHING and CRYING about Labour talking about PR.
It’ll be interesting to see if there will be a Truss bounce when she becomes PM!

I can't see there being a huge one - she is going to be hard to sell to the electorate, whereas Boris was an easy sell. An above average/good voting turnout and they get hammered in the next election imo.

I assume they're hoping the help with energy prices will give them a boost. But the energy price plan seems rather dreadful.

The cost is already so high though - freezing it at the current price is mad. Nobody has had their heating on over summer, people are going to feel the pinch. Personally I think saying "ohhh we know costs are high, so we're going to fix them!" isn't going to go down very well with anyone. Small boost maybe, but this does seem a lot like 2008 under Labour only with a moron in charge vs a competent politican.

First polls post Truss premiership announced and loving the ahem new PM bounce! :w00t: @ 1567804800636436481

Think she might get a small one from the news today - as much as I don't like her, I thought her speech was actually good. Still think even if she does rise in the polls for a bit, will all come crashing down in October when the reality bites of longer days and winter looming.

She'll now get the popularity of being the PM who leads us through a change of reign, and as soon as she's ahead in the polls she'll call a snap election to guarantee us 5 more years of Tory hell.

Happy phucking days

Not the most remarkable poll, but a Truss honeymoon just isn't forthcoming, is it? The last few weeks have been the best opportunities to introduce herself properly to the public - and the queen dying was not something that necessarily should have taken away the limelight given that it involved two momentous occasions of huge visibility imv.

Conference is maybe the last opportunity she'll have before being treated as a midterm PM. I think in 6 months they will be routinely polling in the mid 20s.

Will be interesting to see where they poll after the budget - my worry with the tax cuts they are providing, is they will raise the threshold on the 40% tax and maybe something similar on the 20% tax bracket too (although not as much) to try and pull the wool over people's eyes.
The Queen passing away should have boosted her ratings if anything as it was a baptism of fire during an event when most of the country was united but she failed to impress with her wooden speeches and trying to join the King on the memorial tour before dropping that ludicrous idea.
Gosh, she may not even make it to the next election at this rate (although I don't wanna know who the new candidate would be if that happened x)

Problem is, we won't have an election until Winter 2024/2025. I think Truss etc. will ramble on thinking they can ride the waves and get through. Madness. Think all we can hope so is that the Red Wall MPs feel the anger and put pressure on the Government.
