I got Dua and Selenas predictions right!

Gaga also did release an album and Stormzy was the first #1 single too wasn’t he.

The Weeknd and Bieber also released albums so far.

Ariana was featured on a major hit in the shape of 'Rain On Me'!

Let's see how we've done so far as I'm bored

"Ellie Goulding will have a good year"

She might get a #1 album this week but aside from that it's kind of hard to pass off this year as 'good' for her. x

"James Bond theme... wait for it... Ed Sheeran"

Nope.

"There will be a new Arctic Monkeys album which will return them to a rock sound, I'd say probably like Suck It and See."

Still not happened yet.

"OCC massively change up the charts in January, hopefully by introducing a streaming cap of 10:1 and scrapping ACR."

Surprisingly not really been any significant changes to OCC rules (were there even any minor changes?) even around the time they usually do midway through the year.

"Drake will release a new single early in the year and get a multi-week #1 out of it, simultaneously blocking the (Dua Lipa) Bond theme from the Top spot."

We got a Drake single and it hit #1 but only for a week. Dua Bond theme was a nope.

"Burna Boy will tailor his new music (if he's releasing some) to the UK market and hence have his breakthrough solo hit."

Sadly not. His most recent singles are good stuff tho. x

"Juice WRLD will get a posthumous Top 10."

Yup. 2 of them in fact.

"The Euro 2020 anthem by Martin Garrix will feature Anne-Marie or someone equally uninspiring and hence he'll get a Top 10 hit out of it."

Euro 2020? What's that?

"There will be a collaboration between at least two members of One Direction, most likely Louis and Liam, and it will soar into the Top 10 despite the fact that neither of them are able to even get a Top 100 solo hit by themselves any more as we've all forgotten about them."

Not happened yet, but partly right in calling Louis failing to get top 100 solo hits.

""Tones And I" will not have a single entry into the top 20"

Not yet, thankfully.

Came close with 'Rain' but not quite.

Longest #1 is 8 weeks so far.

Incorrect. It's July 2020 that I'm reading this after totally forgetting it ever existed.

Shocking the world by continuing to not release anything except a mediocre song with PARTYNEXTDOOR.

No solo album yet. She was featured (well, joint lead) on a song that was a bit more than moderately successful. x

"Camilas Romance album will stabilise."

It did for a few weeks but has not been seen in the top 100 since the end of March.

"Jess Glynne will get a UK #1 again."

Might still happen but she's not released anything yet.

"Cheryl will release at least one new single but no new album."

Total silence so far.

"Ed will have yet another big hit but no new album from him."

His only release so far was an Eminem feature that fizzled out within days.

Ding ding (even as high as #2).

"Stormzy will be the first #1 of 2020 on both singles and albums."

He did get the first new #1 on both charts, but missed out to Capaldi for the first #1 album overall, so 75% right I guess.

I don't think this has happened? Not sure though xx

Correct depending on how liberal your definition of 'dominate' is. (SKOB later commented "I'm a stan but she won't "dominate" for sure, but top 5 hit and a #1 album would be nice!" - I guess she dominated more than that at least!)

"My predictions for Taylor Swift - she'll release more "Lover" singles 'Cruel Summer', 'The Man', 'Cornelia Street' & 'Miss Havana & The Heartbreak Prince' (in this order) and maybe 'Paper Rings' wedged somewhere in between and bring new life to the album & become a consistent seller throughout the year and outsell 'Reputation'."

As I rebutted at the time, not even remotely close to happening. We got 'The Man' as a single but it made little impact. The album is sticking around consistently but not super high up, mostly floating around the 30s and 40s.

"Roxanne will be the Barking of 2020* and get a few weeks at #2 without topping the Chart."

Peaked at #4.

"Billie Eilish first UK #1 but as a feature."

Correct but not as a feature.

"Second year in a row with no dance #1 single."

'Roses' got to #1, 'Head & Heart' likely will too.

He released a single the other week. Did anyone notice?

Jury remains out but let's hope not.

1/5 so far, 2/6 including the prediction that Rihanna won't get a #1 (although there is still time).

Nominated for one award and didn't win. Album is still only gold afaia. Hasn't even had a top 40 single yet sadly.

"I'll also add to my predictions that the next Tones & I single to get a 'proper' push will be Johnny Run Away as opposed to Never Seen The Rain but it will still go low Top 40 at best."

Debatable if she's really properly pushed anything. Or maybe she did and people just took no notice.

"The OCC have an announcement in January and I predict it'll be that Xmas songs will be band from the chart next Xmas with a new seasonal chart for Xmas songs over 3 years old."

Did they even make an announcement in the end? I don't remember. It wasn't that anyway. x

No album yet but their single did pretty well so positive thoughts.

Not only it did go top 40 but it actually stuck around in the chart for quite a while! ('Being amazing' I'm not sure about tho xx)

Dropped a mixtape which spawned a single 1 week #1 and only one other top 10 hit. He does have another album coming later this year though.

Multiple companies finally ceased using the word 'urban' to describe music so I guess you could say we've had less 'urban hits'. x And we had a Bring Me The Horizon top 40 hit so I guess that alone means we had more metal hits than usual. Feels like we've had quite a lot of dance hits although most of them are just remakes of old songs.

"Small independent film to be the soundtrack of the year"

Films? What are those?

"ABBA mini-mania in the first half of 2020"

Nothing released from them yet.

Kinda depends on your definition of 'bona fide icon' but we've certainly had shock deaths, as is true of pretty much any year. Naya Rivera comes to mind as a very shocking death and someone who could very easily be called an icon for certain audiences. Vera Lynn is an icon by any definition although her death probably doesn't really qualify as a shock given her age.

Eurovision? What's that? (This did happen though. x)

Thankfully not happened yet.
