I would have preferred Warren, but Iโ€™d also prefer she be the actual president. Harris is a strong pick and has a strong record of performance as an elected representative. She has provided more than a few firm lines of questioning and proven herself to be well read on the issues. Sheโ€™s not perfect, but a big positive step for the US.

A fine choice, mostly what was expected. I think the impact to Biden's campaign will be minimal with her, she's a known quantity but not too known. Given how it's going, that's probably exactly what they're going for. Minimal Trump attack lines, reasonable presence to secure the black vote, while some progressives will have a problem with her there were worse available.
I mean that pick makes sense but it seems to me this is at best a neutral pick strategically. If I were him I'd have at least gone for someone from a state that isn't going to be carried by the Dems by 30 percentage points regardless.

The impact of a VP pick on their home state often isn't that big anyway.

What is important is that if Biden wins, Harris will leave the Senate and her seat will be up for grabs - either in a special election or by appointment by the Governor. A lot of the other picks like Warren and Baldwin represent states that either have a Republican governor or would be vulnerable in a special election under a Democratic president - with how close the Senate is likely to be in November, picking a VP from California means this won't be an issue.

Oh no, I was wrong, they're already calling her a Marxist:

She's quite possibly the furthest thing you could get from a communist in the Democratic Party, I really wish I lived in the world these deranged minds did.

FiveThirtyEight forecast is out... and starting off with the same odds that they had in their final forecast of 2016, that is to say, D 71% and R 29%.

Pretty interesting reads on all the possible situations:

I still think it's pretty good for Biden to win as things stand but this is going to be a long few months.

I see Trump is already running with the line that Harris is not eligible due to not being born in the US (despite... actually officially being born in the US). The same line that he ran with Obama. I wonder what they have in common?

Ooh, I think I know that one.

US Constitutional experts and Democratic party lawyers said today that she's fully eligible to stand for office of VP and President as she was born in the US, regardless of the nationalities of her parents, Yes, Donald the Democrats DID check and took legal advice. They'd have been stupid not to.

Wouldn't it be... you know... UTTERLY STUPID to run for a VP/POTUS position if you actually aren't even eligible? Especially if it's the most basic criteria like age and place of birth. There's no reason for this lie campaign from Trump other than to try and get racists/sexists/conspiracy lunatics on his side once again. Probably 95% of his voters are already that but maybe he thought he could recruit more :')

Trump still sticking to the โ€˜if you keep telling the same lie over and over, eventually people will believe youโ€™ state of mind.

Well he's getting desperate as all the polls so far show that he won't get a second term or it's going to be very very difficult. Suppose he'll try anything to change that, as anyone would in his position.

If anyone is having a little bit of difficulty understanding the issue here, Iโ€™ve a fab wee helper:

ย

would include rigging the election by ripping apart the postal service months before unprecedented mail-in voting be 'trying anything'? Is it legitimate for politicians to 'try anything' in their positions?

Someone needs to make sure this f***ing party plays by the rules or democracy is dead in America.

The Harris birther claim is just another of the latest in a long line of lies, I don't expect it to stick given how provably false it is, his campaign will have moved onto a new lie by next week. Trump's plan to stop people from voting will stick.

Plenty of other leaders have limits on how low they will stoop. Can you point to anything John Major or Gordon Brown did when they knew they were heading for defeat that matches this?

I can't but Trump's a different kettle of fish. Have you ever read anything his niece wrote about him? They don't get on and no wonder really. She said anyone who crosses him better beware and he never ever forgives and takes a grudge to be for life.

ย

One thing which stands out though is that she said he hates failure. Life is about succeeding according to him and he'll do anything to succeed. Failure is not a word. So he must be worried to see all these polls.

Don't you think that makes him unsuited to such a high office?

The postal vote thing in America is so strange, why is Trump so against postal votes?

ย

I could be wrong but I'm sure postal votes demographically in the UK are used more by older people for example.
