I don't believe the polls. I think Biden will win the popular vote but Trump will sneak back in by just winning the electoral college.

It will be interesting to see what happens on election “night”. If Biden is ahead in the likes of PA, NC and AZ then it’s basically game over for Trump, even if they don’t “call” them until days later due to the counting of postal votes. It’s widely expected (and the data supports) in person voting to be Republican leaning, so if he’s ahead based on (mostly) in person votes then it’s a much harder argument to make.

 

I can see Governors, state legislatures, senators etc making a case for it being “rigged” if it’s tight on the night or it shows Trump winning and then he loses based on postal votes. If he’s already behind, it’ll be a lot more difficult to even try and make that case. Plus the Supreme Court could change a lot of races (either way, to be fair) - it’s largely agreed in most polls that they should wait until after the election, at least, to confirm. If the likes of Susan Collins, Joni Ernst etc vote for confirmation it could swing things - especially if Biden wins Iowa (which remains a long shot, of course).

 

Basically, anything could happen.

He played this card in 2016 too, he wants to depress turnout which will help him in the tighter races. I just hope the Dems have realised that and focus on mobilising as many people to vote early as they can.

He could stand for the presidency in Belarus. He'd approve of their commitment to democracy.

 

It has been pointed out that there is no obligation on individual states to abide by the wishes of their electorate. State senates can decide to send a different set of electors to the Electoral College from the ones the voters expected. A lot of the swing states have senates controlled by the Republicans.

Trump is just setting himself up for all angles. He hates ‘losers’ and being seen as one so he needs to find an excuse if Biden does win and make it still look like he won and it was ‘robbed’ from him due to some corrupt people. It’s just about laying the narrative for his cult followers

Trump might then use the supreme court to ensure those votes aren't counted.

I think Trump will certainly lose the popular vote but just may sneak in by taking the Electoral college again.

I mean in a normal functioning democracy, a court of law would ensure that every vote is counted before anyone can declare a victory no matter how narrow and he would be forcefully removed if he contested a democratic vote but God knows where we're at these days....

I think an increasing number of Democrat voters might decide to forego postal voting and just mask up and vote in person then to try and deny Trump any kind of victory.
