Georgia has ordered a full recount, although QUITE what they're hoping to achieve with that is anyone's guess.

i don't mind the recounts! the only thing funnier than seeing trump lose is seeing him lose twice

As I understand it the recount can be requested if the margin of victory is <0.5%, but yeah no hope of it changing the outcome so this is all delaying tactics in order to keep sucking in the suckers who are donating to the campaign (to cover its accrued debts).

 

You’ve probably heard that Georgia — where Biden currently leads Trump by 14,093 votes, or 0.3 percentage points — is going to a recount. Today, we got a bit more detail on what that will look like. Under pressure from his fellow Republicans, who have called for his resignation for unspecified “mismanagement,” the secretary of state announced that the state would conduct a hand recount of the presidential race as part of a legally required audit of the results before the state’s Nov. 20 certification deadline. While the audit itself is routine, the fact that the recount will be by hand instead of by machine is highly unusual and will be a major logistical challenge for counties to complete in the next nine days. In addition, the Trump campaign can request another recount within two days of certification if the margin remains within 1 percentage point. Either recount is highly unlikely to reverse the outcome of the election, given that recounts typically change the results by only a few hundred votes.

This delaying tactic could all be part of an attempt to steal the election. This is how I understand the process.

 

Each state has to ratify the result and appoint electors to the electoral college. In order to win in the electoral college, a majority of votes cast is not sufficient. They HAVE to get at least 270 votes. If a state has not ratified the result, they may also not appoint electors. If that happens in enough states (because of delaying tactics), it is possible that neither candidate will get to 270. If that happens, Congress elects the president. If that meant one vote for each Senator and Representative, Biden would win. However, each state gets just one vote, decided by all of that state's members of Congress. Because the Republicans have a majority in a lot of the smaller states, they could outvote the Democrats and elect Trump. That would, of course, be an extremely high-risk strategy.

Yes totally, this stuff is only supposed to happen in non-Western countries. I'd love to say this was not the Trump team's plan, but you totally know it is.

Yes I read that yesterday. This could be the way for Trump to get another term and deny Biden. Very risky though and Civil War could follow. Certainly huge riots by Biden fans.

''Fans'' of Biden are one thing, but it's more than that, it would essentially be what has been talked about for the last couple of months - an anti-democratic coup, stealing the election and essentially installing a dictator. It's chilling to think it could happen.

Current Trump emails are going into overdrive, asking for donations to help fight the election being torn away from them by cheating Democrats. It's gone too far when I hope that they're just scamming people out of their money before the grifting well dries up because the alternative is sobering to think about.

 

I don't see signs of it though, yes, the results have yet to be "ratified" but not enough Democratic states are going to not ratify it in favour of Biden to make a difference.

According to Sky News today, Donald Trump has said that he won't be present at "phoney" President Joe Biden's inauguration on Jan 20th as it would be an "insult to democracy" He's still holed up in the White House, fuming and doing little work and living on fast food with his family mostly encouraging him to fight on. He will never concede the election either.

Well, it's not as if there is any work for him to do. It would be different if the country was in the middle of a pandemic or something serious like that.

That's what's truly despicable - the rates are just getting higher and yet he's doing absolutely nothing remotely presidential and is making it harder for Biden to do so for the transition. It's all just about his power status. Disgusting (and the fact his party are supporting him in this...).

 

I really hope these horror stories about the electoral collage potentially failing and individual states nominating instead allowing him to somehow cheat his way to a second term aren't actually likely to happen, it really doesn't even bear thinking about...

Arizona called for Biden by ALL THE NETWORKS.

 

It seems like about 9 days since we discussed it going Democrat in this thread, but it is the first time it has gone Democrat in the 21st Century. Once the Trump tantrum is over I'll close this thread and open discussion about the 2024 election... yes, I know. We may never close this thread. :lol:
