January 13, 20206 yr Don't know what numbers people were expecting for Selena when she's near enough matched the first week sales of Revival in three days. I'd have been very surprised if she were on track to clear 10k. She just had her biggest hit by far so it was always gonna open better than Revival.
January 13, 20206 yr I thought it was per album. It should be per album How have you been following the charts ever since the rule was introduced and not realised that it was per artist?
January 13, 20206 yr She just had her biggest hit by far so it was always gonna open better than Revival. Which it will do, but expecting her to more than double the sales of her last album's opening sales is a bit unrealistic when she's never been much of an album seller.
January 13, 20206 yr I’d have preferred for Still Disappointed to replace Vossi Bop instead of Audacity. VB has passed its sell-by date
January 13, 20206 yr Wow poor sales for Georgia, really thought she could have had a top 5 chance although she's not had a top 40 hit!
January 13, 20206 yr I don't think Georgia has much of a fanbase yet - she has 18.4k followers on Instagram, compared with 81.2k for Easy Life.
January 13, 20206 yr Next week's album chart will be interesting with new releases from Bombay Bicycle Club, Courteeners and Halsey - I imagine one of them will debut at #1. I'm between Bombay and Courteeners right now, think I'll say Bombay at a push.
January 13, 20206 yr Sigala and Ella Henderson, will it ever make the Top 40, it is always hovering around number 42 or 43.
January 13, 20206 yr *cue Ed Sheeran releasing 5 3-track EPs* Actually all he'd need to do is release each EP under a separate artist name! Not that anyone would be desperate enough to try it but I wonder if people could get around the rule that way?

January 13, 20206 yr I'd love to see Bombay Bicycle Club get another #1 album next week (and I think they will get the highest new entry) but I'm not sure they'll be able to outsell Lewis - their last album did 19.6k first week to get the #1 and that was nearly 6 years ago, I'd predict maybe 10-15k this time. Courteeners I guess could pull off a surprise as they have been very consistent - all of their albums including a 'reworked' album charting between #3 and #6 - and iirc their last proper album (or maybe the one before that) was inexplicably their best first week sales to date. Halsey's previous albums got to #9 and #12, this one may do a bit better as it has some actual hit singles on it but I doubt she'd be contending for #1, maybe top 5 at best like Selena this week. For what it's worth the highest selling pre-order for next week on the Amazon charts is actually none of those three, they're all being beaten by 'The Serpent Rings' by Magnum. I think Mac Miller's album could do pretty well too although also probably not a #1 contender.

I don't think it's inexplicable, they've genuinely been getting a bigger fan base all the time. I might be wrong but I'd be surprised if they were beaten by Bombay Bicycle Club, Courteeners have done nothing to suggest they'd perform comparatively worse than their previous proper album. January 13, 20206 yr Why do the OCC keep saying this is Georgia's debut album when she released one in 2015?
January 13, 20206 yr I don't think it's inexplicable, they've genuinely been getting a bigger fan base all the time. I might be wrong but I'd be surprised if they were beaten by Bombay Bicycle Club, Courteeners have done nothing to suggest they'd perform comparatively worse than their previous proper album. I can't say I'm very well aware of how big Courteeners' fanbase has been throughout their history but I guess that must be the case for them to have been able to weather the downwards trend of album sales! It's just that there surely can't be many other similar bands, or really artists in general, who've had a similar trajectory to them. Caveat to that is that this last studio album by them was their only album to date released in Q4. But yeah, I may well be underselling them as having looked it up they actually had a quite significantly higher first week sale than that last Bombay Bicycle Club album (24.8k, despite only debuting at #4) and they even did 12k in April 2018 with what was essentially a remix album. Interested to see what the midweeks say next week I guess...
