Ms Banks) – Die A Little Bit It will come to the surprise of absolutely no one that Kehlani topped my EOY chart with the stunning 'Nights Like This' from her 'While We Wait' project - 'Nunya' also features. At #02 is one of the most infectious and joyous pop songs of the year from Mabel in the form of 'Don't Call Me Up' who was one of my favourite artists this year, 'Mad Love' and 'God Is A Dancer' also feature further down. We have amazing underrated pop flops from Charli, Zara, Miley & Bebe in the form of 'Gone', 'All The Time', 'Slide Away' and 'Last Hurrah' which were all SLEPT on. Thankfully at least 'Gone' has got huge critical acclaim as Charli XCX has had an amazing year - the rest seem like huge one off pop songs from the artists involved, especially from Bebe, who is usually more miss than hit unfortunately. We have established artists such as Katy Perry who delivered the BEST comeback of 2019 with 'Never Really Over', one of the most perfect pop songs and something that saw her return to the Top 20 in the US & UK when her career looked good as over after the disastrous 'Witness' era - unfortunately she may have undone that good with 'Small Talk' but it's good to know she has it still in her! We also have Ciara with one of her absolute best, a carefree R&B bop that was of course slept on but got a lot of attention from her loyal fanbase and R&B fans thankfully. Rounding off the Top 10 we had the angry pop/rock anthem from Halsey who continues to go up in my estimations, to go from loathing her to stanning her in just over a year - I imagine current single 'You Should Be Sad' will be high up on 2020's list for me. Further down we have new artists from Kiana Ledé, Olivia O'Brien, Mahalia, Georgia and Summer Walker who all released some of my favourite songs of the year. Sadly, I don't think any of them will have great success - I suspect Mahalia & Summer probably stand the greatest chances. We also have more established acts in Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift who released two of my favourite albums from 2019 - they got the singles completely wrong though unfortunately as seen by this list! It wasn't the BEST year but it certainly wasn't the worst and this list is proof of that.
