February 21, 20205 yr Gentleman really was SUCH a misstep - what on earth were they thinking?? After just hitting such a high with WAU too.
February 21, 20205 yr Author 'Gentleman' literally is the song that killed them off completely, after having survived so many turbulent moments in their career already. They must regret that so deeply.Yeah. As J00ps said, they had literally hit a career high and were in such a good position to continue that momentum. If Dusco Love came 2nd and Not Giving Up followed, I'd imagine LFTW would have been a semi-decent success!
February 21, 20205 yr The best part of waywf is when it repeats waywf for the 100th time but more euphoric and the una hairflip
February 21, 20205 yr 'Gentleman' literally is the song that killed them off completely, after having survived so many turbulent moments in their career already. They must regret that so deeply. They had a #5 single right after it, so I wouldn’t say Gentleman “killed them off completely”. It was a misstep & harmed their momentum following a #1, of course, but it didn’t quite kill their career. I’d say that was What Are You Waiting For, seeing as after they released it they decided to throw in the towel (after the tour). I remember in one of their documentaries that The Saturdays were shown to be incredibly excited to record Gentleman, and evidently they thought it was a smash in waiting - very curious! I wonder if they felt confused when it performed how it did? Evidently The Saturdays and their team had a lot of faith in it. Totally the opposite to how the majority of the fan base received it.
February 21, 20205 yr WAYWF? is criminally underrated :( not surprising to see it out but it really deserved better! No other losses just yet really.

I dislike this song, so much. The verses are bland, the bridge is decent but then the chorus... good God no. Such a shout-fest, with not so nice vocals. If I wanted my ears to be pierced, I'd have just listened to Florence & The Machine instead. Plus, it is extremely dated in it's sound, sonically and fits nowhere in their discography, to me. VOM. My Heart Takes Over is in at #13. FUN FACT: This would have been #12 had I ignored Jay's rate and I did warn him before hand that if he screwed MHTO even further I wouldn't accept them... ugh. I shouldn't have gone against my word, especially seeing what over took it VOM [2]. MHTO is a soaring 21st Century girl band power ballad. One of my favourite ballads in the 21st Century. The verses are so tender and fragile as it soars into the chorus. I hadn't heard a ballad like that in a long time, much less from a girl group. Buzzjack's on/off relationship with it was amusing. I seem to remember a lot of people loving it and wanting it to succeed and then when it only went top 20 and bombed, they turned their backs on it :') You're all heathens!!!

I remember una saying it was her fav and they were so confident on it. It still opened on like 34,000 sales which was great sales for a #14! It went top 10 on iTunes for like 5 mins until gabby
February 21, 20205 yr MHTO is lovely but I think they had better ballads on On Your Radar and it felt like a pretty terrible single choice unfortunately oops. Forever Is Over gets way too much hate!!
February 21, 20205 yr Honestly I think Gentleman's music video was one of the reasons it tanked so hard, they would have been better of with a video full of choreo, something similar to Spoce Girls 'Holler' or a bit TLC or Destiny's Child would have been much better suited.

Icr) were pregnant - heavily in Rochelle's case - at the time. For a group that weren't really known to do intricate choreography on a TLC/DC level, I'm not sure that was ever likely to be an option! I think they could've done something like Holler though, I guess. But only if they weren't preggers at the time.

I'd argue it really did kill their career, 'Disco Love' did put them back into the top 10 but it wasn't enough to repair the damage that caused. I'd say that's why the album ended up doing not very well which lead to the end of their radio support. Gah, if only they'd have just released 'Not Giving Up' in its place. :(
February 21, 20205 yr Gah, if only they'd have just released 'Not Giving Up' in its place. :( I mean it was right there! Also the budget for the video would have been stepped up if it was single 2.

If This Is Love was the girls debut single and it didn't quite get off to the start I don't think the label were expecting. If this was a single now and it performed the same way, I doubt it'd have been on their debut album/just a "buzz single". Thankfully, it served as a fine introduction (but not essential) Sats single. They had far bigger and better up their sleeves. Something about this just feels quite hollow to me? Like, I don't get much from it at all, but it satisfies enough. Also, the chorus irritates me "if this is looooove, then I don't want to know what is"? HUH? This was what kicked MHTO down coz of Jay's stupid 9! #DOWNWITHJAY #JAYTHECORRUPTER Just missing out on the top 10 is Missing You. "I miss autotuneeee" as some famous Sats Forum poster kept saying (was it Hurricane? Icr). So much autotune, but a bop. Frankie's opening verse sounds so dull/bored though! Like, put some effort in at least? Jeez. But I can't help but bop to this! We love a mid-tempo ballad, banger!
February 21, 20205 yr Author And the top 10 (in alphabetical order of course) is... All Fired Up Disco Love Ego Higher (feat. Flo-Rida) Issues Not Giving Up Notorious Up What About Us (feat. Sean Paul) Work We have the sublime, good & overrated left. WHICH IS WHICH. I'll leave that all up to you guys (but srs a v strong top 10! *.*)
February 21, 20205 yr That's a pretty difficult top 10 to argue with tbh *.* the right two just missed out too, I've never been that bothered with If This Is Love, and Missing You has aged VERY badly...!
February 21, 20205 yr 'Missing You' is excruciatingly bad! I feel like with 'If This Is Love', it's enjoyable but they've eclipsed that so many times since for a debut single. I'd much rather 'Issues' wasn't in the top 10 at all, but what can ya do?
February 21, 20205 yr About what I expected results wise so far! The video for 'My Heart Takes Over' is one I see in a different light now though after reading Frankie's book (I went to her launch event for it a couple of weeks ago in London). She was really struggling mentally at that point God love her.
