Really solid album, definitely her most consistent one ever I would say. Only really 1 song that I'm not feeling on first listen which is Escape but that's not a bad song either.

Yes her strongest album to date, its coherent and the songs are all good, only 2 weak songs imo overall which is amazing! I'm loving "Good Enough" should def be the next single.

I hope she lands that top 10 spot because she deserves it.

Her best album since Northern Star. ALL songs are good and fun to listen/dance. Fingers cross she will get the attention it deserves! ( Good Enough must be the next single, btw)

'Enough' and 'End Of Everything' are the only ones I'm not feeling but the former sounds like it could grow already, what an album  Pretty much everything else is a highlight tbh, she really did that. It's all so dancey and upbeat, the kind of album I (most of us tbh) really need right now. I wish the Deluxe was on streaming :/

My Violet LP still hasn't shipped though.

I hope everyone is enjoying the album

I just wanted to ask if anyone here is happy to share their Melanie C albums on their Instagram stories by tagging “SpiceGirlsNet” and using the hashtag #MelanieCAlbum that would be amazing.

Would love to see your cds, cassettes, bundles, vinyls etc

Additionally if anyone has bought multiple copies or is playing the album on their record player that would also be great to see 😊👍

Many thanks and happy Melanie C album day 🎧🤍🎤

I'll be buying my deluxe in store tomorrow, but I have realised I have no cd reader :( so I do hope the bonus tracks are released digitally or ripped by fans quite quickly)

Same I have no cd reader

Bought by Deluxe from Fopp today and will be listening tonight for the first time!

Has anyone found a way to listen to the CD2 tracks online/digitally? I have no CD reader in my flat or macBook and I'd like to listen to the whole thing at once tonight :(

Nice work, Melanie! Finally she is back on her game, after many years of middle of the road outputs.

You definitly gotta admire her for her tenacy as well as her talent. Good on her to release this album so far into her career. It feels fresh and current, which is good.

Im gonna attempt an initial, first couple of listens type of review.

THE GOOD :cheer:

I think the music across the album so far is really good and fresh for Melanie. She has really listened to her instincts as an artist and it has paid off. Some tracks are really great, such as Who I Am, Blame It On Me, Good Enough, Nowhere To Run and In And Out Of Love. She definitely picked the best overall songs for the initial run of singles! For me, this is the first time she put out a great run of singles since NS-NBTSA-ITTY, and it pays off.

End of Everything is good! Not her best, and definitely the most 'old Mel' song of the album, but it's a good song I think! She's had better ballads, but this is a nice closer to the album too.

Overload hits differently in the context of the album, and I have a new found appreciation for it. It's a BOP! The lyrics in the verses and middle 8 are still pish though :nocheer:

The album as a whole sounds cohesive without sounding boring at the same time, and its the most fun she clearly is having in a long time. Good on her! Im stanning again, after not caring much for 2 decades!

The promotion has also been steller, with some good performances and it finally feels like there is a genuine buzz around her again.

Blame It On Me has really grown on me recently and I think it only took me this long because of the video, which is fun but a bit of a missmatch with the song unfortunately. But separating the two, it's definitely a great song, on par with Who I Am and some of her best. Great single too and she does it well live! Definitely her best single so far this era.

THE JUST OK

Dont think there is a BAD song in here, but I could live without Fearless, Here I Am or Escape. Definitely the most forgetable songs. Cant quite understand why they went with Fearless as a single, as it's just a bit of a nothing song. Two great artists, but it doesnt work unfortunately.

Here I Am feels a bit overtly dramatic to the point of not sounding so sincere... And I cant remember how Escape goes (had to look it up cos I couldnt remember its title lol).

Across the album, some of the lyrics are just a bit too terrible. It's the main thing that bugs me about Mel's songs. Sometimes she is really on it and then a massively clunky lyric or whole verse just ruins it all ah. I cant quite pinpoint exactly how to say this, but think it's to do with how sometimes thythm of the lyric against the song doesnt quite match, and it sounds forced. Other times, it's the fact that the lyric is descriptive instead of inviting you to interpret what it might mean...

And then there's Fearless which is a song that tries to be empowering but it is quite empty of content throughout... Nadia is a great rapper, so its a shame her rap and ad libs are so middle of the road. And most of the lyrics from Melanie could have been taken out of a fridge magnate collection.

That's it! I would give it a 7 out of 10.

Get rid of chuncky lyrics and some of the middle of the road tracks and it would have been a solid 9! Hopefully she continues to improve this way cos im here for it

Great to see all these positive reviews from you all! Believe it or not I've still not got around to having my first play of the album yet, but I will tonight!

Melanie was on The One Show earlier, a very nice interview. There was a segment with her surprising fans via video link, of course the album and her tour were discussed, and they aired a performance of In and Out of Love that they filmed on the same day as her Live stream. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000n...e-show-02102020

Unfortunately it's not on YouTube yet but there's a couple of clips on Twitter:

I finally got around to listening, and wow... I'm really impressed  It's fresh and contemporary pop, which is absolutely the lane she should be in - she's excelling at it. She's clearly a completely rejuvenated artist and I'm so pleased for her, and for us!

I can stop listening to it. NTR is my fave.

Have you seen Cutie Spice Baby Bunton story supporting Melanie C? Queen supporting Queen.

Just seen it now  Love when they support each other!

Melanie has a nice feature on the advertisement bar at the top of the HMV page:

https://www.hmv.com/ (it's the last one)

When you click on it, it then takes you to this:

Some nice promo!

(ps I was on there because after receiving my violet vinyl I desperately want the HMV one now, the packaging is so bloody gorgeous!!)

Couldn't help myself and just downloaded the album on iTunes, wasn't planning to do so, but every extra sales she gets helps.

It's lovely to see Bryan supporting Melanie after all these years!

That's a great write up from HMV. A lot of the reviews are saying that it's her best album yet, hopefully it'll sway some people into checking it out!

recordstore.co.uk have declared that 'Melanie C' is their album of the week:

Melanie C - Melanie C

Well, if 2020's the year of the unpredictable, it figures that we're giving our Album of the Week to a Spice Girl. Quite simply, this is Mel C's best work in decades. Music for the critically acclaimed dancefloor, to the tune of Robyn and Roisin Murphy - an ode to self-love inspired by a new generation of girl power. In the words of the Independent: "by the time the record's finished, you feel like Melanie C's bought a record of shots, dragged you onto the dance floor and then sat down with you on the pavement for a proper heart to hear. May she party on and on."
