Matt Hancock has also just been ordered to defended him too.

With just one tweet each, they’re undermining everything they’ve said for the past 2 months. The only message that has been absolutely clear is to self-isolate for 7 days if you show symptoms. In any normal world, this should be impossible to defend.

I can’t remember if any spoke out against Neil Gaiman earlier in the week? Would be interesting.

I'm speechless at how anyone that incompetent could ever get a top government job - but the Tories are clearly so BEREFT of any talent whatsoever these days.

Cummings should go there is absolutely no doubt about that. Didn't he even claim in newspapers that he was self-isolating in London? Problem is, he is not going unless he resigns.

You then can't even compare the actions between Cummings and Prof. Ferguson. While both were wrong, at least with the latter he had had the virus and had fully recovered. The fact all the high profile Tory MPs are being whipped to bring out some PR spiel tells you all you need to know. Hopefully one of the journos mentions it tonight at the press conference.

Cummings drove 250 miles, with his child in the same car, while having Covid-19, presumably stopped for petrol somewhere, then dumped his child on his aged parents having been locked up in a car with two covid-19 sufferers, and subsequently reportedly prancing round the garden with his child to Abba.

Meanwhile the rest of us can't see our relations, can't drive except to go shopping or to work, and not at all if suffering from Covid-19 BY LAW! What a f***ing hypocritical lying c**t he is. What a bunch of hypocritical lying f***ers his cabinet is. They put us all at risk, never apologise for killing so many through inaction, and then ignore their own rules when they are forced to bring them in late, and then defend themselves for ignoring the rules. Utter shitbags.

Apologies for the language, but really nothing else is strong enough to describe what assholes that man and his cronies are. He genuinely doesnt give a f*** about anyone.

They won't. Cummings thinks he is 'untouchable'. I see that the Tory Spin machine have sent Rishi Sunak out there in support - he demeans himself.

He did that when he took the job. Don't forget he took over when Sajid Javid resigned after refusing to allow Cummings (yes, that unelected bureaucrat again) to decide who should and should not be able to act as his advisers. Sunak had no problem with giving Cummings that power.

I can think of no greater display of spinelessness than Gove, Raab, Hancock(!!!!), Rees-Mogg, Sunak, half the cabinet, and that's just the ones I've noticed, all lining up to tell the country that they've been bad parents and it's fine to meet up with your family members actually because Cummings has told them to defend him.

This boggles my mind. Everyone knows that being in a confined space with a covid19 patient is a near perfect scenario for infection

The problem is, a lot, maybe most of the people that vote for them couldn’t care less. It’s all Classic Dom, what a lad Boris is when they mess up badly. Like...what will it take??
It’s so awful. If he sees no consequence then nothing will stop other people from acting in this way. I have just FaceTimed my mum. This morning my brother was supposed to drop some shopping off for her and he convinced her to meet him in the garden against her best judgement. He even said that if Cummings can do it, he can. She then called me to invite me to her garden tomorrow. I declined and told her she should not let him pressure her into something she’s not comfortable with. This woman began isolating back in February. She’s now said she won’t invite people round after speaking to me, my dad and my sister because we’ve backed up her initial feelings. I so angry with my brother, but even more with this spineless government who do not care about the health of the country. This is why people don’t believe it’s safe to open schools again, because they cannot trust this government at all.
Piers Morgan's fuming. He says unless Boris announces today that he's sacked Cummings then he'll break lockdown himself and drive to see his parents tomorrow that he hasn't seen for weeks.

This, of course, is precisely why Cummings should have been sacked immediately. People have made huge sacrifices over the last two months or so and had been anticipating continuing to do so for at least a few more weeks. Allowing Cummings to continue sends completely the wrong message.

Okay well a journalist's just asked about what Cummings did. The answer "well that's where his family was. At the beginning of a crisis I think we all like to have our family with us" WTF. The rules clearly said we couldn't though. That's where his parents were anyway, not his wife and kid.

Utterly despicable display from Cummings, this will put even less trust in the public from the government and could well lead this to justify more people breaking rules. I don't understand why he can't just be sacked, surely there's a better ""adviser"" that doesn't just say utter nonsense and anger everyone all the time?

The press conference is absolute car crash. I've defended the Government on a few things, but I can't on this. It's a horrendous message to send out and thankfully it looks like it won't go away from the media.

Sends out the wrong message to the public and it's also a horrenous abuse of the rules.

And where is Boris in all this? Where is he full stop? Have any other leaders in other nations hidden away this much during this crisis?

From all the evidence, this is happening precisely because Cummings is far more than an advisor, he is the power behind the throne. I mean, I know this government are relentless idiots who fall in lockstep to defend their own (and constantly bemoan the 'vile politics' of people daring to have the temerity to disagree with them), but he's not even an MP, the only reason this is happening has got to be that he is controlling elected representatives.

As expected, every man and his dog asked (EDIT: sorry should mean told) to tweet support for him. No doubt the bots are at full capacity today.

I wonder how the Cameron/May-ite Tory MPs feel about this whole situation. Do they have any integrity?

It sounds weird but I'd wish Mad May was still in charge over Johnson ANY day. At least Mad May had a few funny memes like her curtseying, dancing and demonic shoulder laugh but the incompetence of this government isn't even funny.

Edited by Andrew.

Exactly. How can we (as we should) pressure people to not go out on the beach in Southend, or treat this as some holiday while there are still people dying, when apparently a high-ranking government minister (or his wife) can literally be confirmed infected and drive across the country.

One of two things is coming of this, perhaps both. Either there is public outrage over the government's cavalier attitude and this is what collapses the dam wall of support for them, or controlling the lockdown becomes untenable.

And where is Boris in all this? Where is he full stop? Have any other leaders in other nations hidden away this much during this crisis?

Since his message in public a fortnight ago, has he appeared in public since? IIRC he did the following day's briefing but none since. It does seem incredible for a leader to go 12 days without addressing the nation when the government are doing daily addresses.
