When Paul left the band in 2002, the band renamed themselves from S Club 7 to S Club. Do you think this was a necessary step?

Obviously it would've been a bit odd to keep going as S Club 7 with six members, and perhaps it would've been a continual reminder that Paul left, but I think it was equally noticeable to drop the 7  S Club 6 would've been even worse so if they were intent on changing, they made the right choice, but Maroon 5 haven't had 5 members in ages.

Perhaps it made no difference at all lol but it certainly ruined the flow of the TV series!! Miami 7, LA 7, Hollywood 7 then.... Viva S Club

They should’ve kept the name. Have Blink 182 always had 182 members?? No! :o

tbh I always wondered what the 7 stood for lmaoooo

Why S Club though? What was the thought process? Did all their names start with an S?

I feel like at the time media called them S Club anyway mostly so nbd there

The flow was definitely off with 2 guys and 4 girls though. Especially as Jon did so little except for be the token closeted gay.

I don't think it necessarily mattered either way, as Jupiter said the media called them S Club anyway. The publicity maybe did draw attention back to Paul's departure when he wasn't necessarily a key member of the group.

I think their 'downfall' as it were was the same for a lot of bubblegum pop groups of that era. 1) there's a lifespan but 2) people lose interest as they release more mature music. The likes of Reach and Bring It All Back are completely in your face but the maturer music of course isn't the same so it doesn't have the same attention.

They should have anticipated the nightmare of last.fm split scrobbling across two different artist names tbh x

I suppose S Club was the right decision at the time, they might have got some stick for keeping it as S Club 7. I'm certainly glad they didn't go with S Club 6!

I vaguely remember the fact one member left and I also vaguely remember the gradual name change. I suppose the fact loads of people had already abbreviated them to S Club made the name change much easier.
