Another Come & Get It single goes, this time it's the second single, So Good. The track followed Negotiate With Love in peaking at #10, showing similarly okay but unimpressive longevity. It serves as the album opener, and definitely sets the pace for the rest of the album!

13 7.92 Fool No More

 

Thought his may have ended up higher but I guess it's a competitive field! The lead single from S Club 8's second album (and their first release using said name, after the original S Club had split) charted at #4, getting the era off to a strong start, though the parent album would only go on to make #13.

 

FNM and NWL out already?? ughhhhhh

 

12 7.97 Natural

 

Single number two from the 7 album (and the first to drop from that release), Natural was the first S Club release to feature Rachel taking the lead. Previously, she'd had solos on Bring It All Back, but none on the interim singles. Natural gave a closer look as to the vibe of the 7 album, and unfortunately became their lowest peaking single at the time, "only" making #3.

 

Definitely the correct bottom 2... cute songs from S Club Juniors, but rather inessential.

 

I'd have had More More More as the lowest Rachel song, not Funky Dory. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy More More More... her singles run is really good! Funky Dory is a more interesting song than it though.

 

Alive and Say Goodbye are surprisingly low. I would never have guessed that Say Goodbye in particular would be lower than Top 20 and considered as S Club 7's second worst song! :o

 

New Direction is too low!! :| An S Club Juniors highlight for sure. The instrumental reminds me slightly of Can't Get You Out of My Head. Better than Love Ain't Gonna Wait for You just above it tbh.

 

Negotiate with Love has aged like a fine wine! :wub:

 

You is super cute, but not one of my ultimate faves - but I still gave it an 8! Which is the lowest score I gave to any S Club 7 song :lol: Interestingly the video was shot in 2001, quite a bit in advance of Have You Ever's video shoot/promo/release - because the original plan was to launch the Sunshine album with You!

 

I'll never understand how So Good wasn't much bigger than scraping the Top 10 at #10 (which in terms of 2005 was a bit meh). What a bop!

 

S Club 8 really did bring some high quality songs, far greater than you'd expect a bunch of pre-teens to release... Fool No More is fantastic! I'd rank it third below New Direction and Sundown.

Natural :wub: Not sure if this is an opinion that many would share, but out of their first 5 singles (Natural is the fifth), I honestly consider Natural to be the strongest single they'd released up to that point... but I can understand why it didn't do quite as well as the previous ones, it was a bit of a different vibe for them that perhaps the younger fans wouldn't have appreciated quite as much (I say this like I wasn't young at the time lol, I was only 12!)

 

11 8.24 Have You Ever

 

Final result of the night! Have You Ever just misses out on a place in the top 10. It was the second Children In Need release by the band, and it soared to #1, selling 143,000 copies in week 1 - just 1k less than Never Had a Dream Come True did a year beforehand! It once again sees Jo on lead vocals, and was the group's final #1.

I keep thinking "omg this should be top 10" but then I look at the top 10 and it's pretty amazing? :lol: I'd probably swap Sundown out but the rest are all worthy!

Natural :wub: That production stands out so much. Easily my 2nd favourite single from this entire group. Shame it missed too 10, I was expecting more.

Natural is one of their most underrated for sure! It sticks out really positively in their discography :heart:

"Rachel So Stevens Good" is what the single artwork reads to me :lol:

 

SO DAMN LOW! Her best. Followed by S Club 8's best! 'Fool No More' is incredible and really should've been top 10 :cry:

 

I'd personally swap out 'Some Girls' and 'One Step Closer' (not that they're necessarily "bad" just that the positions that SG & FNM are at are more worthy for them, imo)
