Ya IWGC really killed the album badly I think sleeping with the enemy or les sex could have went top 40 and possibly gave helped Selma a few more copies of the album. Kiss me once campaign was so short lived which is the complete opposite of golden.

I'd have loved 'Sleeping with the Enemy' as a single! Not sure how it would have performed but I imagine radio would love it and a music video could have been incredible.

From what made the standard tracking list, I'd have had 'If Only' and 'Kiss Me Once' as singles.

In reality, I imagine if 'I Was Gonna Cancel' had been more successful, we'd have had 'Sexy Love' as single #3 in the summer followed by 'Beautiful' for the run up to Christmas. Perhaps 'I Was Gonna Cancel' flopping was a blessing in disguise? :P

I would have liked more singles as the album might have made gold. Even now I'm not sure if it will ever make gold. For me crystallize should have been on the album and be single 2 followed by les sex and possibly sleeping with the enemy as 4th single had it been on the standard edition of the album.

I know it’s hated but I loved ‘Beautiful’ (Although the wrecked the vocals with the use of vox). I really wanted it to be a single especially after the KMO tour.

Essentially though Kylie wasn’t into the album and it showed tbh which led to the her and the label dumping the project pretty quickly.

It was def the shortest time she put into pushing an album but I agree to was very clear kylie wasnt into the album, she never lit up when talking about it where with golden she lit up like a christmas tree when she talked about it.

Sexy Love

I feel like no second single was going to do anything really, but IWGC was a really bad choice and was obviously only picked because Pharrell was man of the moment at that time.

I think a big part of why the project went awry is because the people managing it were awkwardly trying to make her fit into the climate as being a current popstar and not knowing quite how to go about it. In that respect Golden totally differs.

Ya the management handled it all wrong and i totally agree they were trying to fit Kylie it into the climate as being a current popstar and were relying on pharrelles popularity for IWGC when it should never have been a single. While other songs would not have been big hits i think they would have got her another top 40 hit. Golden moved Kylie in another direction and it was organic but it very much kept what we love about Kylie and golden highlighted what we all missed with kiss me once.

"Les Sex", gets my vote, an instant standout upon first listen & out of the 3 sex titled tracks, its easily the best one with its glossy production with a sense of urgency about it. As well as pulling off the sexy vibe more convincingly than the other 2. While I do like 'Sexy Love' with its bright bouncy pop sound & catchy verses (more girly & fun than sexy), But 'Sexercise' was pretty awful with its dated dubstep & plodding production that makes it too stodgy to enjoy. This should have been scrapped from the album & have 'Skirt' in its place.

There are some great tracks on here such as the lead single 'Mr President', 'Sleeping With The Enemy' & 'Kiss Me Once', but on the whole the filler moments really lets things down with a lack of direction or depth with nothing to say. & apart from her X-Mas album, this is probably her worst studio album of her career. If you take into account of the many great tracks that were left off; namely the Garibay/Sleepwalker tracks, 'Sparks' & 'Waiting 4 The Sun' - so much wasted potential.

During the recording sessions there was enough material for 3 different styled albums & Sia came in & split them into Pop, R&B & Indie and the label went with a mixture of Pop & R&B for the final tracklist & scrapped the Indie songs entirely, having some on the Garibay EP. Such a shame as with a bit more thought this album could have easily been one of her best & could have easily combined a mixture of the 3 genres.

My single choices would have been (in its current album form) =

'Into The Blue'
'Mr President'
'Les Sex'
'Kiss Me Once'

Yeah, I agree. I think Parlophone were struggling to re-evaluate the measure of success within the changing music industry, as evidenced by their disappointment towards even the X and Aphrodite eras, and it was extremely clear by Kiss Me Once that Kylie needed a new team around her. The contrast between Kiss Me Once and Golden is striking - BGM knew how to play into her demographic perfectly and play the long game and Kylie had fresh ideas and was visibly invigorated and passionate.

I need to make a tracking list out of the Kiss Me Once highlights and its outtakes, I agree it could have been one of her best albums. I do wonder what the thought process was with deciding the final album as it's not like the songs that fit under the 'indie' category were particularly left-field. Maybe they wanted an album that was full of potential chart hit material?

Well they totally got that wrong and the trail of thought behind the whole album is kind of baffling. I wonder when the album was finished did anyone genuinely think we have a good one here, plenty of hits here and fans will love the album.

I don't think they have a bad album with Kiss Me Once by any means, it's just very safe and they misjudged what it was that Kylie fans wanted.

So this would have been the 'KMO' singles run =

"Into The Blue"
"I Was Gonna Cancel!
"Sexy Love"
"Beautiful"

Very :lame:, not very well balanced = 1 loved song, 1 semi-popular album track & 2 hated tracks (I think we all know which one's which). Talk about misguided, even if those other 2 did get released, this still would have been Kylie's worst era & added another couple of flops to her legacy.

Literally the only good choice was the lead, which was only a minor hit at best. 'IWGC' flopped for several reasons (i.e. nobody liked it, poor marketing & the awful music video), the latter of which killed any hope at all of succeeding. 'SL' if released back in the 00's would have smashed easily, but by this point, it would have got lost in the shuffle & probably had a similar chart performance to 'Crystalize' at best. Then as for 'Beautiful' - even Enrique couldn't save this. Although her solo version without the auto-tune was nice & maybe if both artists had re-recorded this without the awful production meddling & kept it as a simple piano ballad. Might have been a minor top 75 hit.

At the time I was hoping that they'd have coincided a performance of 'Beautiful' on X-Factor with Enrique, as I know there was talk of it being the 3rd single later in the year.

The song's really not good though. :(

So this would have been the 'KMO' singles run =

"Into The Blue"

"I Was Gonna Cancel!

"Sexy Love"

"Beautiful"

I always wanted ‘Beautiful’ as single without the auto tune - her performance of it on the KMO tour was  .

They were certainly always planning it as a single - hype stickers on the album state ‘Featuring the singles Into The Blue & Beautiful’.

IWGC totally killed the era and the fact that the lead single wasn’t a runaway success I think made both Kylie and Parlophone realised they were chasing a few minor flop singles and a couple of thousand album sales of they had continued, it probably would have pushed the album to Gold.

Yes the hype stickers did mention beautiful so it was clear the intention initially was to release it, i would now think it was originally lined up as the follow up single to into the blue but the Pharrell popularity changed that to I was gonna cancel.

I've played sleeping with the enemy a couple of times in the last few days,, it has grown on me slightly, I still prefer les sex. SWTE is a song that wouldnt have been misplaced in dannii,s discography.
