April 19, 20205 yr Guessed them all except Corinne and McFly so far! There's at least 4 left that I didn't get though.
April 19, 20205 yr Author 21. Guns'N'Roses - Use Your Illusion II (1991) Correct guesses: 18 out of 29 Yes it's Use Your Illusion II, not I, so if you put I or just 'Use Your Illusion' then you don't get the point I'm afraid! Probably the most successful simultabeous double album release of all time, UYI I and II debuted at number one and two in most major territories, although it was volume II that topped the chart in the UK and US and sold slightly more overall. Fact: It's claimed that 500,000 physical copies of the albums were sold in the US in the first two hours of release. 22. Paloma Faith - The Architect (2017) Correct guesses: 12 out of 29 So this was the second least correctly guessed album in the quiz, and I knew that the fact that it looked like the cover of a Lady Gaga album would throw some of you :) Paloma had to wait until her fourth album to finally achieve a UK number one. Fact: The Americans clearly don't get Paloma's British quirkiness as sadly none of her four albums have charted higher than number 170 stateside. 23. Katy Perry - Teenage Dream (2010) Correct guesses: 29 out of 29 Easliy the most recognisable album cover in the quiz, and the only one which was correctly guessed by every single entrant, Teenage Dream was the first of Katy's two UK and three US number one albums. Fact: Teenage Dream became only the second album in history to produce five US number one singles (the first was Michael Jackson's Bad). 24. Kings Of Leon - Only By The Night (2008) Correct guesses: 23 out of 29 Sex On Fire and Use Somebody were everywhere in 2008 and this helped Only By The Night become Kings Of Leon's most successful album to date, both in the UK and worldwide. It has sold nearly three million copies in the UK alone. Fact: Only By The Night is the 18th best selling album of the 2000s. 25. Take That - Nobody Else (1995) Correct guesses: 15 out of 29 This is another one I thought more people would have recognised. Nobody Else was Take That's third studio album and second number one, and was released two months before the departure of Robbie Williams. It would become the last album the band released before splitting up and ending the first phase of their career. Fact: For its US release, the album cover was replaced with a picture of the group with Robbie Williams excluded.
April 19, 20205 yr I'm pretty sure that Paloma cover has come up in one of these games before and I still didn't learn  didn't get Take That either!
April 19, 20205 yr Paloma was the last one that I got - defo was giving me Gaga vibes but knew wasn't any of her albums!
April 19, 20205 yr Author 26. Jahméne Douglas - Love Never Fails (2013) Correct guesses: 9 out of 29 The least correctly guessed album in the quiz, I included this one knowing that it would stump a lot of people. Well done if you're one of the 9 people who got this one right :D If I'm being honest I literally don't even remember this album being released. I wonder what he's up to these days? Anyway, the album, comprised solely of cover versions, was recorded in just seven days and was released the year after Jahméne finished runner up on the the ninth season of the X Factor. Fact: The album sold 18,904 copies to debut at the top of the charts, the lowest sales for a number one album since Rihanna famously broke the record a year prior. 27. Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (1973) Correct guesses: 19 out of 29 One of several number one albums for Elton, this was the second of two albums he released in the same year (could you imagine anyone doing that these days?) It's also Elton's best selling studio album and is home to what is perhaps his best known song Candle In The Wind. Working titles for the album included Vodka and Tonics and Silent Movies, Talking Pictures. Fact: In 2008, Ben & Jerry's created a flavor of ice cream called "Goodbye Yellow Brickle Road" in honour of Elton John, made of chocolate ice cream, peanut butter cookie dough, butter brickle and white chocolate chunks. 28. Jess Glynne - Always In Between (2018) Correct guesses: 28 out of 29 Jess's sophomore album featured her famous red locks hanging out of the side of a blue convertible on the cover and joined its predecessor in debuting at the top of the charts, selling 36,500 copies to do so. Fact: One of the songs Jess co-wrote with Ed Sheeran for the album was Woman Like Me, before deciding that it didn't fit with the sound of the album and subsequently offering it to Little Mix who of course took it to number two a few months later. 29. Hear'Say - Popstars (2001) Correct guesses: 21 out of 29 OK so this was one that for some reason I didn't think many people would get but most people did - I guess my mistake was including Suzanne Shaw in the image. Hear'Say were famously created by the reality show Popstars in 2001 and their debut album was rushed out soon after they won the show. I never managed to work out why a rogue apostrophe found its way into the middle of their name but I'm guessing it was just for effect. Fact: Popstars opened with sales of 306,631 copies, making it the fastest-selling debut album in history. 30. Deep Purple - Machine Head (1972) Correct guesses: 14 out of 29 Another one of the more tricky albums in the quiz (due to its age as well as genre), Machine Head was the sixth studio album by English rock band Deep Purple and is often referred to as a major influence in early heavy metal. Fact: The album was due to be recorded in a Swiss casino using a mobile recording studio, but when the casino was destroyed by a fire the night before recording was due to start, the band relocated to a theatre and then to a nearby hotel. As they watched the fire from their hotel, located on the other side of Lake Geneva, bass player Roger Glover referred to it as Smoke On The Water which inspired what is arguably Deep Purple's best known song.
April 19, 20205 yr I was convinced I knew #26 but Jahméne Douglas!! I don't think I've ever seen that album cover before so I really didn't! And that was my guess at the non number 1!
April 19, 20205 yr Author So far so good! :) Except that you put 'A Man Shaped Pool' for the first one instead of 'A Moon Shaped Pool'! They're two very different things
April 19, 20205 yr Author 31. Florence + The Machine - Lungs (2009) Correct guesses: 17 out of 29 Lungs was the debut album for Florence (and her machine), opening at number two but topping the chart six months later. Fact: Following the band winning the Brits Critics Choice Award in 2009, Lungs went on to win Album of the Year at the following year's Brit Awards. 32. Foo Fighters - One By One (2002) Correct guesses: 20 out of 29 The Foo Fighters finally topped the UK albums chart with their fourth release in 2002, and it remains their biggest selling album in the UK. Fact: One By One was one of the first albums to be available in the DVD-Audio format. 33. Garbage - Version 2.0 (1998) Correct guesses: 17 out of 29 Although their eponymous debut album remains their biggest seller, Version 2.0 (their second album, in case anyone hadn't guessed) is Garbage's only UK number one and is home to five top twenty singles. Similarly to the earlier Pet Shop Boys album, its cover is mostly orange. Fact: The album had a working title of Sad Alcoholic Clowns but was (very sensibly I'd say) changed to Version 2.0 to reflect the amount of computer technology used in the creation of the album. 34. Maroon 5 - Overexposed (2012) Correct guesses: 25 out of 29 They probably were a bit overexposed by this point, weren't they? Anyway I quite like this album, it's probably my favourite of theirs tbh (which is probably down to Max Martin's influence as executive producer). It debuted at number two in the UK and never climbed any higher, which makes it the red herring of the quiz, and the 20 of you who correctly identified it as such picked up the five bonus points. Fact: The massive success of Moves Like Jagger inspired the band to move away from the guitar-driven sound of their first three albums and develop a more disco-pop sound, resulting in this album. 35. George Michael - Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1 (1990) Correct guesses: 18 out of 29 George's second solo album and second number one, the album topped the UK charts once again when it was re-issued 27 years later across a number of new formats. Since a second volume was never released, I awarded a full mark for 'Listen Without Prejudice'. Fact: The follow-up album, the more dance-oriented Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 2, was scrapped for reasons known only to George and his record company, although three of the tracks intended for that album appear on the AIDS benefit album Red Hot + Dance. April 19, 20205 yr Well I didn't get Maroon 5 and guessed a different album was the #2, so there goes any chance I may have had of winning this!
April 19, 20205 yr Omg I thought that looked like Florence but wasn't 100% sure so just put 'Florence + The Machine?' - why did I not just guess 'Lungs' anyway :drama: also I bought my brother that George Michael album on vinyl and still failed to recognise it  well, at least I got the Maroon 5 bonus points!
April 19, 20205 yr Except that you put 'A Man Shaped Pool' for the first one instead of 'A Moon Shaped Pool'! They're two very different things  Oops hahaha!
April 19, 20205 yr Author 36. Mika - Life In Cartoon Motion (2007) Correct guesses: 26 out of 29 Lebanese-born Michael Penniman, better known as Mika, was the winner of the BBC's Sound of 2007 poll and released his highly-anticipated debut album early that year, following five-week number one Grace Kelly. It's between this and Maroon 5 for most colourful artwork in the quiz, though I'd say Maroon 5 probably edge it over Mika. Fact: A rare demo version of the album, issued only to industry insiders, has a completely different track listing to the standard version of the album and includes a song called Gave It All Away - which was later recorded by Boyzone as the lead single from their fourth album (never knew that). 37. The Killers - Hot Fuss (2005) Correct guesses: 27 out of 29 Home to such certified classics as Mr Brightside (which has spent about a million weeks in the Top 100), All These Things That I've Done and my personal fave Somebody Told Me, The Killers' critically acclaimed debut album took seven months to climb to the top spot. Every album they've released since then has also made number one (Sawdust is regarded as a compilation album). Fact: With 252 weeks in the chart, it is amongst the top 40 longest-charting albums in the history of the UK chart, and is the longest-charting album to feature in this quiz. 38. Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed (1969) Correct guesses: 18 out of 29 The oldest album to feature in the quiz, Let It Bleed is one of an impressive ten UK number one albums for the veteran rock band. Who says you can't always get what you want? Fact: The cake for the artwork was created by a then-unknown Delia Smith. 39. Kylie Minogue - Kylie (1988) Correct guesses: 21 out of 29 Little did the world know when Kylie released her debut album back in 1988 just what a glittering career she would go on to carve over the next 30 years. The album entered the charts at number two and climbed to the top spot seven weeks later, making Kylie the youngest female singer to achieve a number one album in the UK - a record that stood until Avril Lavigne topped the charts with Let Go 14 years later. Fact: Kylie was the best selling album of 1988, selling 1.29 million copies in the space of six months, and the fifth highest selling album of the 1980s. It remains her highest selling album in the UK. 40. Robbie Williams - I've Been Expecting You (1998) Correct guesses: 26 out of 29 An incredible FIVE of Robbie's albums have sold upwards of 2m copies in the UK (pretty sure that's a record, unless I've missed someone obvious) and his sophomore album I've Been Expecting You is the highest-selling of all of them, with sales currently standing at just over 2.5m. Fact: A lawsuit was successfully filed against Robbie for track 7 on the album, Jesus In A Camper Van, and the album was subsequently re-issued in 2002 replacing that track with It's Only Us. (I always wondered why there were two different track listings and now I know). Results incoming...
