It's wild that this album was the best selling album in USA 1997. Sometimes, one needs a reminder of how huge they were! It's crazy!

Just like the Greatest Hits, it looks like Spice25 is getting a repress in June! https://shop.universalmusic.it/products/spice-girls-spice-25th-anniversary-box-doppio-cd

Thanks so much for this Jay  if there are any plans for a 'Spiceworld' one at some point then I'll definitely be there too!

If U Can't Dance - I've definitely mentioned this a few times before, but it was never a strong favourite of mine back in the day. I thought it came alive in a major way at Istanbul and during the 1998 tour, which for me left the album version sounding a bit lacking.

The performance for last year's tour was more faithful to the studio version of the performance, and finally the song really clicked for me in this form! It's such an interesting song! Geri's Spanish rap is quite a random moment but I love it

A great album closer!

A highlight of going to the Spice Girls Exhibition in London a couple of years ago was a showing of Live In Istanbul  the chair routine for 'Naked' is iconic!

I really wish I'd been able to go to that, I'm envious of you! I remember watching your YouTube video about your visit to the Exhibition

Also, thank you for this thread. It's providing much solance from the shit show that is the current state of the UK. Boris' announcement just now was scary as hell...

Ending on my least favourite on the album. But what an incredible album this is. Very consistent, with insane highs and no real low points  Thanks for arranging this Jay!

Thank you, Jay.

That was fun :D

Thanks so much for organising that Jay!! Loved it

 You're all welcome, thank you all so much for taking part and contributing - this was really fun!

What a classic and iconic pop album. One of the first albums I ever heard, and it'll always be so special to me. A really strong album that holds so many fond memories for me... and this listening session is a brand new memory to attach to it!

If anyone else wanted to take part in this, but wasn't able to make it, by all means listen to 'Spice' at a convenient time for you and post your comments - let's keep the conversation going. :cheer:

I’m so sorry I got waylaid with the family zoom chat 🙈🙈🙈 my replies would have been looooove it then not keen for IUCD! 😂
Track 9: Naked

Over time this has become my favourite ever Spice song. The Istanbul performance with the chairs, the drama, the eerie sounds and lighting... as a child watching that performance I felt like some man was threatening the girls and Mel C stands up to him. Mel goes OFF on her verse!! God what a song.

So I'd loved Spiceworld but felt completely underwhelmed when I listened to this album and dismissed most of it as filler.

Track 9: Naked

...Then I adored this when I heard it for AFSC and gave the whole album another shot and I think I might love it even more than Spiceworld! :cheeseblock: Love Thing and Last Time Lover stood out as well as the obvious singles and Naked. Even Mama wasn't THAT bland on this listen :o

I definitely prefer Spice to Spiceworld, the last 3 tracks on Spice are so diverse and grown up compared to the rest of their discography.

I think you are right in the accessment that overall Spice is a much bolder album than Spiceworld is, to be fair.

Whilst Spiceworld is less of a statement of intent, it is much better overall, in my opinion.

Great to see that Spice has grown on you with another listen, Andrew!

How amazing was this performance though *.*

Their management and/or team annoy me so much, they went to the trouble of making those thumbnails for the videos yet didn't upload the rest of Istanbul or Wembley 98.

Managed to snap this up on Vinyl for £9.99 in HMV today :cheeseblock: I was acc lucky, one copy was £14.99 and the other £9.99 for some reason lmao. I went in to get some recent albums but I couldn't NOT get it!
That pretty much sums up HMV pricing, online it is £17.99 as well, 3 different prices for the same product.
