Forever was the only Spice Girls album I bought, whereas for most it was the only Spice Girls album they didn't buy!!

  • Bopping to THIS BOP today

  • I find that Let Love Lead The Way could have been up there with 2 Become 1 and Goodbye if the lyrics weren't so sacarine... The melodies and production are stunning, but the lyrics could have been tak

For me Goodbye, Let Love Lead the Way and the two jam and Lewis tracks are the best of Forever.

There is only one song that is a skip on Forever and that is the horrendous Time Goes By

Songs like Tell Me Why, If You Wanna Have Some Fun and Wasting My Time are some of their best songs ever. Get Down With Me and Right Back At Ya are both BOPS! And Oxygen is one of their best ballads to this date and shoudl have been a Christmas single in 2000

Swap out Time Goes By by another uptempo (maybe Pain Proof or If It's Loving On Your Mind) and you'd have their best album to date!

It's always interesting to read what other fans like/don't like about each album.

For me, the only songs I enjoy from Forever (in the versions that appear on the album) are:

Holler

Weekend Love

If You Wanna Have Some Fun

Oxygen

Goodbye

Tell Me Why is a good concept for a song, but I think I'd like it more with different production.

Right Back At Ya is ok, but I prefer the poppier version that leaked, along with Pain Proof and Give You Want You Want.

I'm just not into the Darkchild beats that much. I think he was severely overused by the time Forever came around, and the beats he used on Forever sound like b-side material to me. *waits for Melanie C to jump in and drop her line about b-sides* :melaniec:

You can separate the Forever songs into two camps.

1999 Songs

Holler

Let Love Lead The Way

Weekend Love

If You Wanna Have Some Fun

Oxygen

Right Back At Ya (Pop Version)

2000 Songs

Tell Me Why

Get Down With Me

Time Goes By

Wasting My Time

Right Back At Ya (Darkchild Version)

The 1999 songs are superior. I find it hard to believe the 5 pop songs they did with Biff are worse than the 2000 songs.

They could have dropped the album by November 1999 and I think they would have still achieved some success.

Forever - Nov 1999

Right Back At Ya (Pop version)

Give You What You Want

A Day In Your Life

Pain Proof

W.O.M.A.N.

Holler

Weekend Love

If You Wanna Have Some Fun

Oxygen

Goodbye

1st Single - Oct 1999

Right Back At Ya

2nd Single - Xmas 1999

Forever (re-release with new bonus tracks) - July 2000

Right Back At Ya (Pop version)

Oxygen is by far the worst song from the whole thing. The drops of water and the poor editing ruins it completely.

Sometimes there are benefits to being deaf I supposed I’ve never heard this dripping that people talk of lol!

Honestly, dreadful!

The dripping sound is so distracting and unnecessary

(I can't believe I've counted this) but the sound effect is prominent from 2:45 to 3:29. There's 33 drop sounds in those 44 seconds. The dripping continues in the middle 8/bridge, but not as loudly - 16 drops. Then that sound comes back into prominence from 3:52 to 4:34, in which time we're treated to 32 more drops. x

The first chorus sounds so much better without them. One of the most baffling production choices. Why are we hearing dripping in a song called Oxygen? :suspic:

r u ok

I have a soft spot for Oxygen. It's underrated in my book. Lyrically, it's the best ballad from the Forever sessions.

I do like Weekend Love and LLLTW, but lyrically those two songs are missing Geri's songwriting touch. LLLTW in particular sounds somewhat juvenile.

I agree. The lyrics of LLLTW and WL are somewhat undercooked and it is clear something is missing, although the song really came alive in 2019 tour.

Oxygen is gorgeous. I particularly like the fact that each girl has a proper verse, and that they each wrote their verses according to how they related to the feeling of love at the time. I find that very moving and a great insight to their personalities at that time. It is gorgeous.

Plus, I love that they don't over do it with add libs on the choruses, which was a rarety in Forever as it seemed every track was over run by ad libs from each member. Even Holler doesnt have a single chorus without ad libs, which I always found the most (and only) jarring thing about the song.

Yes the water drip sound is quite annoying but if you're not paying attention to it is fine :teresa: Sorry Jay :teresa:

But seriously that dripping noise knocks the song from an 8.5 (it has a beautiful chorus) to a 6.

If You Wanna Have Some Fun is the perfect evolution from their 90s sound and imagine in an alternative world they had asked Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis to do some more tracks. Would have been an incredible path  But Forever is already gorgeous as it is though :teresa:
