There are only 3 differences between the songs in the top 10 on Apple vs. Spotify, I'm not exactly keen on Powfu but I will easily take Lil Mosey and especially Dua Lipa over the trio of middling dance songs that are currently higher on Apple ~

The stuff that is higher on Spotify seems like a mixed bag ranging from songs I love to songs I hate, but with more than I like than not. Whereas the stuff that is higher on Apple is nearly uniformly mediocre (with the handful of songs that I do like a lot mostly being ones that are only very slightly higher on Apple than Spotify anyway).

 

Focusing just on the bolded songs (which are top 50 on one platform but not the other) that difference is even more stark - Spotify's list has in my opinion 7 good to great songs, 3 meh to decent songs (KSI, Surfaces and Don Toliver), 'Someone You Loved' which is just a weird outlier that needs to go away (not exactly a terrible song but certainly one I don't ever want to hear again) and just 1 awful song ('Party Girl' :puke:) while Apple's list has just 2 good to great songs (one of which is the ancient 'Location' which is nearly the same on both platforms anyway, the other is 'Know Your Worth' which I don't even love that much), 3 meh to decent songs (Regard, Martin Solveig and Future) and a whopping 7 that I'd say are either infuriatingly mediocre or just downright bad.

 

Obviously it's all opinions and I suspect other people would disagree with me especially as the biggest difference is dance songs doing better on Apple and I happen to think most of this crop of dance hits is pretty mediocre, but just thought it'd be interesting to do this little analysis ~

I prefer Apple right now but yes sure it's cos I like those 3/4 dance tracks doing better on Apple

The Apple Music chart is SO much better, Spotify is so stale. I mean AM is hardly going at the speed of lightning either but fresh/pop/dance songs always go up faster there I've noticed.

I prefer the Spotify chart list there personally!

Going by 'freshness' then sure Apple is probably a bit better but I'd rather have older songs that I love than newer songs that I don't care for personally :kink:

one funny thing I've noticed with people I work with, which is people between 30-40,

is that mostly they use Spotify and stream playlists and never skip a song

except for dance songs, whenever a dance song comes up in a playlist they go and skip it

maybe it's cos they don't help concentrate, not sure, but it's a pattern i've noticed

 

so maybe Spotify is not pushing many dance tracks

cos the average user much prefers your regular pop song rather than dance

just a thought :)
