"Walk This Way" and "Untouchable" are the next two songs in line for a certification. I wonder which one will get there first.

'Untouchable', I'd say. 'Walk This Way' had an 8k lead in 2019 but I reckon 'Untouchable' performs better on a weekly basis nowadays.

'Walk This Way' was still ahead when the OCC revealed their best sellers list at the end of last year, but I reckon the sales between the two were pretty close at that point.

I think 'The Show' will reach Silver before 'Walk This Way' does

The Show deserves to reach silver before any of their other singles certify, it's such an underrated classic.

Wonderful news to see Sexy certifying, I missed it at the time.

OCC shared a new total of 300,000 for I’ll Stand By You

I think that total might have been rounded up, given the rate it was shifting between previous totals.

I wonder will this be considered a new single or a re-release/remix of the original… could mean ‘Beautiful Cause You Love Me’ is no longer the last Girls Aloud single!

'Biology' and 'Something New' overtake 'I'll Stand By You' so, based on the sales update we got for 'I'll Stand By You' the other day, the Top 10 have all passed 300k.

This is the full Top 40 with March 2023 positions in brackets.

Some nice tour effects: 'Untouchable' and 'The Show' overtake 'Walk This Way'; 'Long Hot Summer' overtakes 'I Think We're Alone Now' and 'Life Got Cold'; 'Whole Lotta History' overtakes 'See the Day'; 'On the Metro' overtakes 'Beautiful Cause You Love Me'; 'Girl Overboard' climbs three places and 'Graffiti My Soul' enters.

I'm very happy to see the tour effect boost the more essential Girls Aloud songs over the covers. 'Whole Lotta History' no longer being their worst performing physical single is definitely most pleasing.

'Long Hot Summer' going from 84k in 2019 to at least over 105k as well! I'm going to assume 'Wake Me Up' is still under 100k but should be well over 90k by now.

Great to have a Top 40 update and very interesting to see quite a few changes to the order! There was an update last November but the only change at that point was Every Now and Then overtaking Revolution in the Head.

It bothers me that OCC are quite vague lately about sales that exceed 1 million ("1.2m" for Sound of the Underground, which is a rounded figure) even though they're accurate to the nearest 1k for sales below 1m. :drama: Make it make sense! I wonder how far off Sound of the Underground actually is from 2xPlatinum? Another thing that's frustrating is them only revealing the Top 5 sales each time they do this update. Even if they can't/won't reveal every sale in the Top 40, at least a few others would be interesting to know!

Wow at Biology and Something New moving ahead of I'll Stand By You! Who'd have thought a song that went 2-14-30-out of the Top 40 would one day outsell a 2 week #1 which spent 6 weeks in the Top 10! But with I'll Stand By You (Sarah's Version) selling a few thousand copies, I wonder if it'll move back up their list?

Untouchable and The Show moving ahead of Walk This Way is good to see - I wish we had an indication of how close to Silver the three of them are! Nice to know that Long Hot Summer is definitely over 100,000 sales now. Whole Lotta History finally moving ahead of See the Day - deserved! I hope both of these and Wake Me Up aren't too far off 100k+ if none of them are there already.

Sorry for triple posting

Increases since last updates (I'm assuming the data is from up to 24th March 2023:

Sound of the Underground

874,000 - 27th November 2020

1,028,000 - 24th March 2023

(+154,000 in 121 weeks)

= 1272.73 per week on average

Predictions:

1,100,000 - April 2024

1,200,000 [2xPlatinum] - October 2025

Don’t suppose you’ve got time to update this post have you Jay? Seems like all songs have been shifting higher amounts since the tour began.

^ Here we go! I've ended up including a lot of older sales figures - it's interesting to see how they've grown over the years:

The MTV data shared on 28th April 2024: it doesn't seem possible to pinpoint what the cut off date for the data is. These updates showed that their sales had been boosted since November 2023 (due to the reunion announcement), because all 5 singles were selling faster than they had done from March 2023 to November 2023.

If we just say for the sake of argument that the data comes from Friday 26th April, and the new data is from Friday November, then their average weekly sales (over 29 weeks) have been:

3,448 - Sound of the Underground (but we can take this with a pinch of salt given the 1.1m/1.2m rounding up)

2,379 - Love Machine

1,896 - The Promise

1,103 - Call the Shots

931 - Jump

Hopefully the airing of the tour has provided a nice boost again for their streaming!

Presumably their weekly sales will decrease somewhat if they enter another period of inactivity, but if those average sales continued then...

Sound of the Underground would certify 3xPlatinum (1.8m) in 2028 (presumably 2xPlatinum isn't too far off, whether it happens this year or in 2025)

The Promise would pass 1 million in 2026, and certify 2xPlatinum (1.2m) in 2028

Love Machine would pass 1 million in 2027 and certify 2xPlatinum (1.2m) in 2028

Call the Shots would go Platinum (600k) in 2026

Jump would go Platinum (600k) in 2026

... so I'd probably take these estimated years as "at the very earliest"!

Great to have a Top 40 update and very interesting to see quite a few changes to the order! There was an update last November but the only change at that point was Every Now and Then overtaking Revolution in the Head.

Honestly whats the point of OCC keeping any song’s total sales for themselves? It doesnt male sense does it?
