Omg  So pleased that it's finally made it! It's about time!

:silver: Silver - The Loving Kind (17.12.2021)

Hopefully it's not too much longer until Something Kinda Ooooh goes Gold. For a song that was so big at the time, it still only being Silver feels wrong.

After that, I think the most likely next certification would be Love Machine going Platinum :o

When it comes to a different song certifying for the first time, unfortunately I think it'll take quite a few years... when I did some estimations a couple of years ago, I had No Good Advice going Silver in 2026, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if it took even longer than that. If people had had more taste in 2003 it should have gone Silver that year, not take possibly approaching 25 years  x

'The Loving Kind' is Silver, look at them scooping up these Certs!

It took some time, but glad to see they finally got there!

It really shows how low single sales were, generally speaking, between 2003-2006. Something Kinda Ooooh was such a big deal for them, especially compared to Can't Speak French and The Loving Kind which both have the same certifcate now.

Completely agree! It's such a shame that sales were in the doldrums then, it really didn't reflect how big particular singles felt at the time. By today's standards I feel like Something Kinda Ooooh would be Platinum for sure, if not double Platinum! Oh well

'The Loving Kind' should be a million seller. On a more serious note, I feel glad that their run during a climate of poor singles sales is more than made up for in album sales.

'No Good Advice' and "approaching 25 years" in the same sentence has properly shaken me up. :o That'll feel so weird, remembering the release of it so well and the week it entered the chart.

This just made me really panic  it's 20 years next year I believe thankfully

  • 3 weeks later...
'Something Kinda Ooooh!' is now GOLD, look at them racking up these certs. :cheer:

Wooo :cheer: Great news indeed! Love the fact we have seen two new certs over the past few weeks.

I think it'll be close between 'Love Machine' going Plat and 'Sexy', 'Untouchable' and/or 'No Good Advice' going Silver. I'm going to assume those will be the next four certs anyway. Justice for 'The Show'.

Back in August 2019, based on updated figures from that month vs. previously known sales, I estimated when the following singles could go silver or gold:

January 2020 - Gold - Call the Shots

February 2020 - Gold - Love Machine

June 2021 - Silver - The Loving Kind

November 2021 - Gold - Jump

November 2021 - Gold - Something Kinda Ooooh

In the end, this happened:

February 2020 - Gold - Love Machine

February 2020 - Gold - Call the Shots (1 month later)

November 2021 - Gold - Jump

December 2021 - Silver - The Loving Kind (6 months later)

December 2021 - Gold - Something Kinda Ooooh (1 month later)

Evidently The Loving Kind really slowed down (and I wonder if it's not helped by the fact it's not included on 'This Is Girls Aloud' on Spotify  )

Everything else wasn't too far off or did happen on time. Here are other predictions I made in August 2019, covering the upcoming 10 years:

05/2023 - Platinum - Love Machine

08/2026 - Silver - No Good Advice

06/2027 - Silver - Sexy! No No No...

12/2027 - Platinum - Jump

05/2028 - 2xPlatinum - Sound of the Underground

09/2028 - Silver - Walk This Way

03/2029 - Platinum - Call the Shots

08/2029 - Platinum - Something Kinda Ooooh

05/2031 - Silver - Untouchable

It'll be interesting to see whether Love Machine keeps up the pace to be able to go Platinum in less than 18 months from now. Unfortunately it seems that we'll have a long wait for any currently uncertified singles to go Silver, but No Good Advice was the one on track to make it first, ahead of Sexy!, Walk This Way and Untouchable. Here's a reminder of what the sales of those singles were in August 2019:

160,517 - No Good Advice

156,200 - Walk This Way

150,043 - Sexy! No No No…

147,858 - Untouchable

Sadly it isn't one of their better remembered singles and it doesn't seem to have any good playlisting anywhere :(

We had a full sales update on 30th Dec 2007 and at that point No Good Advice had sold 122,508. On 21st June 2009 it was up to 132,917. So it was managing reasonably decent downloads while they were still active, but it's not doing so good in the streaming era.

At the end of 2003 it had sold 105,000 copies, enough to make it the 56th best seller of that year.

Definitely true about playlisting, with 'No Good Advice' in particular it really suffers from being on no major Spotify playlist, 'Sexy No No' on the other hand is used more on major playlists so I wonder if it may overtake 'No Good Advice' at this point
