24. The Fratellis – Here We Stand

Release year: 2008 UK Chart Peak: #5 Greatest Hits: No

Can you guess an album cover just by looking at a pair of neatly pressed trousers? That was what I wondered when I put this album artwork for The Fratellis in this quiz, and by all accounts it was guessed correctly by a small number. Here We Stand was the second album by the band, released in 2008, peaked at #5 in the UK Album Chart, and it contained minor hits like Baby Fratelli and Mistress Mabel.

25. Empire Of The Sun – Walking On A Dream

Release year: 2009 UK Chart Peak: #19 Greatest Hits: No

915e4423-a3ac-4736-8750-0699534dbfdf.jpg

A Top 20 album from 2009 is what we have next and it comes from Australian music duo Empire Of The Sun. Their debut album Walking On A Dream only managed to peak at #19 but it contained their two most known hits Walking On A Dream and the Top 20 single We Are The People. Quite a mixed bag here with many guessing correctly but some who were doing well up to this point struggled.

I couldn't even suggest an answer for the Empire Of A Sun one. I don't think I've ever seen that album cover so I would never have got it. So far so good in the second half otherwise though!

26. David Gray – Greatest Hits

Release year: 2007 UK Chart Peak: #11 Greatest Hits: Yes

Another album cover that was catching people out was this one of part of a man’s face. But whose face was it? Gary Barlow? George Michael? Well that’s what some guessed, but in fact it was David Gray on the cover of his Greatest Hits album. It was released in 2007 and peaked at #11 containing hits from his career up to that point like Babylon, Please Forgive Me, Be Mine and The One I Love.

27. Leftfield – A Final Hit: Greatest Hits

Release year: 2005 UK Chart Peak: #32 Greatest Hits: Yes

3390817f-c098-4d37-b85d-86bfd1952d4e.jpg

I put this one in as a deliberately tricky album cover to identify due to its low chart peak and less of a commercial album than the rest so far. Electronic producer Leftfield released singles throughout the 90’s and enjoyed some Top 40 success in the singles chart with songs like Open Up, Original and Release The Pressure, all of which appear on this collection of “Greatest Hits”.

Who remembers Orson? They had a #1 debut album in 2006 with Bright Idea as well as a debut #1 single from the album called No Tomorrow. The album also contained Top 40 singles Bright Idea and Happiness. They followed this album with another in 2007 which was less successful.

British singer Lucie Silvas was the identity of the face in #29 in our quiz here. She released her first album in 2004 titled Breathe In and it reached #11 in the UK Album Chart. From this album we had the singles What You’re Made Of, Breathe In, The Game Is Won and Don’t Look Back which all made the UK Top 40 Singles Chart in 2004-2005. Quite a variety of wrong answers here with Rachel Stevens being a popular choice of incorrect answer!

Lighthouse Family brought us some easy listening music throughout the second half of the 90’s and early 2000’s, and as recently as 2019 brought us a new album too. This was their Greatest Hits collection which was released in 2002 and reached #23 on the UK Album Chart. It reminded us of earlier hits like Lifted, Ocean Drive, High and Raincloud.

Tupac Shakur’s life ended prematurely in 1996, but his legacy lived on, and many posthumous music releases were made available in the years to come. In 1998, a Greatest Hits collection was released as a 2-disc compilation of his music, and featured UK Top 40 hits up to that time like California Love, I Ain’t Mad At Cha, Do For Love and Changes. The album peaked at #17 on the UK Albums Chart. It was correctly guessed by 77.78% of participants.

34. Pete Tong with The Heritage Orchestra – Classic House

This album did in fact reach #1 for a single week in the UK Albums Chart and though no songs from the album charted in the UK singles chart, it was guessed correctly by many.
