I laugh whenever I hear people call the Premier League "the best league in the world" , the league is a shadow of how it used to be. Years ago teams lower in the table could beat the table toppers or those in contention for the title or could at the very least draw with them and this would happen on quite a regular occurrence. Nowadays you just know before a ball is kicked that it's not going to happen. As each season goes by it's becoming less and less competitive. For the past 3 years it's been one team running away with it from before Christmas (or 2 in the case of last season).

It's ridiculous that a team winning the league finishes on or near 100 points every season and leadership of the league barely changes hands these days unlike years ago when several teams would take turns being at the top of the table. There are no twists and turns in this league anymore, it's like watching a movie and seeing the conclusion of the film at the very beginning instead of following the storyline with all the twists, turns and suspense before getting to the conclusion. The league as a whole is the weakest I've ever seen it as and all of the other teams behind (including Man United) have themselves to blame. It feels more like Power League rather than Premier League at the moment!

Guessing you didn’t watch the Premier League title race last season????

Does make me chuckle when people think the league is poorer now.. funny people weren’t saying that when Man Utd or Arsenal we’re winning titles in a two horse race! Pep Guardiola firstly and then Jurgen Klopp have totally redefined football, the style of play is totally dominant and making up to protect against the smallest of margins. This Liverpool side has the chance to go down as one of the greatest teams ever and that’s just not me being biased. The innovation, differences in play, small tactical choices, it’s turning football on its head which happens every 15-20 years before the next thing comes along. The mentality has shifted up a gear, I’ve never seen anything like this at Liverpool before, just a team of born winners spurred on by the feeling of losing the biggest prize of them all. I’ll enjoy it nicely for a little while before it inevitably ends!

Yes but last season it wasn't exciting for me. Extremely impressive yes but not exciting at all because I knew both teams were gonna keep winning. Title races are exciting when a contender drops unexpected points or loses to a team fighting for relegation & the lead is constantly changing hands each week. City & Pool both kept winning with barely any adversity (apart from like 10 minutes on the last day of the season).

And before you say it's cos United weren't involved, the 13/14 season is probably THE most exciting title race of all time from an outside view. 3 teams in it right up until the last month, all dropping points. Totally unpredictable...

Don't get me wrong this isn't criticism more an observation, I simply have to applaud Liverpool for their dominance. I'm a huge F1 fan, and Mercedes have swept all before them in the past 6 seasons. But blaming the best team for making things boring is the wrong way to look at it, you have to blame everyone else for not putting up a fight!

The title race in which the top 2 teams won every week?

It's not even about who ends up winning the league but it's more about the journey towards it happening. Yes Man Utd and Arsenal were winning the league titles during the 90's and early 00's but there were twists and turns before it actually happened. Man United lost to teams like Sheffield Wednesday, Derby County, Middlesborough, Southampton, Blackburn Rovers amongst others during some of those title winning seasons. We even conceded 6 goals to Southampton and 5 to Newcastle in the same title winning season. Arsenal lost to the same kind of teams as well during their title winning seasons and even in their unbeaten season they drew 12 matches.

If one or two teams keep winning every week then it means the opposition is not good enough which is the fault of the rest of the league but then it can't be said that the league is the best in the world.

If you watch any team other than Liverpool and care about any position other than 1st, you will find this is still an exciting season.

But that’s the difference, none of those teams really were THAT good. Man Utd and Arsenal dominated the Premier League for 10 years and won a grand total of 1x Champions League. The difference now is that City and Liverpool have improved streets ahead of the rest of the league compared to the title races of the past. Liverpool are unbeaten for 38 games, winning 33 or 34 of them. That’s just absolutely ridiculous, it defeats just about every logic. The smallest of margins are considered compared, its not the opposition isn’t good enough, it’s that Liverpool and City have gone to a different level.

The only thing I would concede is that with the influx of money, and I probably include some of the Top 6 teams in this as well, there’s been the tendency to go for cast-offs, constantly digging for players Barcelona/Real Madrid/Juventus etc. Want to get rid of means we’re infesting the league with players in it for the cash rather than the actual passion of football. So when the going gets rough the shells come out..

Good to see Allison has more assists in the league this season than Lingaard 😂
I would rather see 5 different winners in the last 8 years than one team win the league seven years in a row.

Liverpool are finally about to win the Premier League, rival fans now need something new to churn out to wind us up when football was invented in 1992!

I know so apparently the league is shit now compared to the good old days just like Liverpool fans when united won the league it was all because of money!

It's not even about Liverpool, it's a general observation of how the past few seasons have been although I wouldn't expect any other reaction from a Liverpool fan right now as this is perfect for you at the moment.

For example when Manchester City were miles ahead from before the halfway point of the season and winning every match can you honestly say it was exciting, entertaining and healthy for the league as a whole?

I watched Premier League years 2001/02 recently and there were 6 teams competing for the title for majority of that season up until March/April when it reduced to 3 in May. Several teams were top of the table at various points of the season, even newly promoted Bolton Wanderers were top for a bit. Man United didn't win the league that season either so I'm not being biased with this example. That was a very entertaining race with lots of drama right up until the end and was better for the league as a whole.

I think it's just the organisation of he two main clubs(Liverpool&City) are well ahead of the rest, that's key in football always has been always will be. There's no coincidence that the glazers took over united and a decade later they are falling away, Fergies managerial skills covered the cracks but once he left the lack of good coaching/motivation meant they have fallen away. Football is about good ownership, the right signings & good coaching put them together and you have it. I don't think the leagues got any worse or better just think the things mentioned are with City and Liverpool at the moment.

In 10 years who knows who that will be with.

Southampton now 9th in the table and above Arsenal! :D
Wild how things have changed from the 9-0 thrashing in December!
Wild how things have changed from the 9-0 thrashing in December!

Their recovery from that has been incredible. They were worse than dreadful that night but have done really well since then.

That defeat was back in October (and it was very satisfying to beat them in the reverse fixture!), but yes Southampton have the third best form in the league from the last 10 games now, only behind Liverpool and Man City.

Five weeks ago Southampton were in the bottom three. Now they're three points off fifth. Madness.

And they will probably finish above that team currently sitting in fifth!

Honestly, we have ZERO chance of scoring ever again until rashford is back.

Just funny now. Ole is way out of his depth and Woodward keeps on raising the share price of the club - fantastic.

I honestly think you probably need 9 first team players to even challenge for the title. Surely this is the result that either gets the cheque book open to get long term targets or it makes the hierachy realise that Ole is definitely not the man..

Can't you criticise the performance, Ole? It was woeful. Burnley's first win at Old Trafford since 1962.
