ya alot of fodder was on the album, but i think kylie looked like she never fully believed in the kiss me once material even when performing it on the tour.

"Kiss Me Once", could have easily been a much better body of work, if they just took a few more risks. For a start tracks like "Sparks", "Sleeping With The Enemy" & "Mr President" being left off was criminal as these showed so much potential, as well as "Skirt", "Waiting 4 The Sun", "Crystalize", "Voodoo". A little tweaking to the tracklist, then maybe this could have been one of Kylie's best albums. Instead of what we got which was a pretty bland offering.
If they tweaked the track listing it could be a bit better than what it was, i agree with songs like Sleeping With The Enemy should have been included.

In seventh place is Kylie's most recent concert tour (excluding, of course, the Summer 2019 shows in support of Step Back in Time: The Definitive Collection) - Golden, in support of her fourteenth studio album of the same name. With 33 dates spanning September 2018 to March 2019, this was a return to form for Kylie after the Kiss Me Once tour failed to live up to the same standards she had set herself with the likes of Showgirl, X2008 and Aphrodite: Les Folies. Given that Kylie was a creative director for the Golden tour, it's unsurprising that a lot of the content of the show seems driven straight from Kylie's interpretation of what the look and feel of the show should be, and how all of the songs would translate, with a narrative running throughout that linked all of the songs and acts together beautifully.

I attended this tour for her Glasgow date, and I was blown away by just how much she had stepped up her game since the Kiss Me Once era - I don't think there are many things (if any) I can fault about this production - albeit still a lot more simplistic than her previous tours. There were a lot of moments to enjoy on the Golden tour, and from reading reviews of other dates, it seemed like there were some scattered throughout where you just had to be there. Kylie takes time out of the set, as she does on other tours too, to take requests from the audience and performs songs a cappella, her interactions with the crowd are a joy, and with all of that she finds the time to remind people just how important all of the songs that she included on the album are to her, and how special she hopes they are to the fans too that have supported her for however many years.

For those yet to see the DVD or that were unable to attend a date, the Golden tour begins with a video interlude. A guitar instrumental and howling wind effect begin to introduce the very first song of the night - Golden - before Kylie emerges from beneath the b-stage atop a stack of suitcases. Golden seemed the perfect way to open the show, and for any casual fans out there capture brilliantly the entire essence of the album. Not only that, but throughout the whole show there is a very rigid storyline that conforms to the country and western theme so well. All of the visuals pay homage to old Western films, the dancers are dressed in their finest and most glamorous cowboy attire, and Kylie's costumes are some of her most simplistic, yet stunning. It all comes together and encapsulates an era that Kylie should be extremely proud of, and that will no doubt have brought back on board many fans that had grown tired in the Kiss Me Once era.

Kylie's vocals are a real highlight from the Golden tour - if there was ever any doubt about Kylie's ability to sing live, then they were firmly squashed here. Despite a heap of choreography and performances thrown in to make the show what it is, her vocals remain on point and almost as if you're hearing her record the album in a studio. One of the best things about the Golden tour and all of its video interludes is that these give you time to breathe when you're gasping thinking 'how can this night get any better?' - with hit after hit and with Kylie performing the vast majority of songs from Golden (clearly an album she's very proud to showcase and one that is very personal to her), each of them are tied in well with each act. Some of the best moments (and perhaps most surprising to me) included the performance of Kids - where Kylie was clad in leather gear, motorbikes surrounding her at every angle, and flashing lights popping off every few seconds; as well as that there was also that laser show (I'll talk more about that when I mention my favourite performance from the tour).

As well as all of the above, there was something different about this Kylie tour that had everybody talking for a while too; what does it mean? what will happen? omg this is exciting!!. There was an interlude, separating the show into two halves. I think this made complete sense from a storytelling point of view. You can tell that Kylie was passionate about making everybody leave this concert feeling connected to at least one song, so allowing them all time to shine and giving breathing space before heading into the second half of the show allowed you to digest what was going on, and really appreciate the night for the celebration that it is. I'm yet to relive the 'gold' of it all on DVD, but I'm very much looking forward to it when I decide it's time. In summary, this is a very strong Kylie tour. The setlist includes a lot of classic hits and fan favourites. The tour is a perfect showcase of Golden as an album and representation of who Kylie is as an artist now. Yeah, if you still haven't bought a copy of the CD/DVD bundle, then do so now (unless it's sold out, I haven't checked).

Favourite performance:

My favourite performance from the tour couldn't be anything other than Lost Without You, could it? There are so many other great moments (see: Stop Me From Falling, All the Lovers, A Lifetime to Repair, Better the Devil You Know), but the laser show we were treated to before the final chorus of this song was incredible. It was a real delight, and when performing this song you can tell that Kylie put every breath she could and every piece of her heart into it. It's a song that's managed to resonate so well with so many people, so to see it given such special treatment on tour must mean it's definitely a two way street and this is a glory moment enjoyed by both Kylie and the fans. A dreamy, beautiful performance that really proves just how talented an artist our favourite Australian really is.

I would probably place Golden in or around the same place, it is a good concert and i really enjoyed its release although not a big fan of its cover. There are much better tours and performances on some of kylies other tours though. The loco motion on the golden tour was a huge standout for me.

Agreed with your comments re: Kiss Me Once Tour, Calum! Looking at the setlist, it feels like Kiss Me Once was very underrepresented and the album's songs that were chosen weren't the best on offer. There's such drought of Kiss Me Once songs in the first half, especially when you consider 'Sexy Love' was removed. Okay, there's 'Timebomb' which had been released since the last tour but, that aside, there was 10 performances in between 'Les Sex' and the next Kiss Me Once song, 'Sexercize'. I think there could have been a better arrangement of the songs to stop it feeling like such a greatest hits tour, but even better would be to include songs like 'If Only', 'Fine' and 'Sleeping with the Enemy' - the former in particular was crying out for a performance!

Onto the positives, I really love the version of 'Can't Get You Out of My Head' from this tour and her cover of 'Need You Tonight' is smoking. *.* I too hope that 'Into the Blue' will make a reappearance on tour one day - Kylie always seemed to enjoy performing it and I'm sure she referred to it as one of the songs she wished had made the original Step Back in Time tracking list.

Will have a read through your Golden Tour review!

Into The Blue will make its way to future tours as Kylie does mention it's existence from time to time.
The kmo tracks did need to be blended more into the set list as it would probably have worked best or maybe it was get them out together as we know once the hits start coming the crowd will want them and not more kmo.

The blended approach of the Kiss Me Once songs would have been best and possibly mixing a Kiss Me Once song into a medley of hits.

I skip the Kiss Me Once songs when watching the tour and concentrate on the other offerings which are much superior.

Another great review Calum, reading through is bringing back lots of memories! The show was more stripped back than previous tours but it felt authentic to the theme and it didn't mean it was without its highlights - the laser scene in 'Lost Without You' for instance was such a magical moment. There was a good mix of new and old songs, in fact I remember looking at the setlist with an idea of what songs I really wanted to see performed live for the first time and there was only 'Your Disco Needs You' that was left out.

'Golden' was a great opening song, loved the extended intro and it set the mood and tone so well. I'll never forget Kylie emerging from beneath the stage just a couple of metres away! *.* Many highlights throughout - hearing my favourite Kylie song 'In Your Eyes', the arrangement of 'The Locomotion', the instrumental of Fleetwood Mac's 'The Chain', the euphoric breakdown in 'All the Lovers', 'Lost Without You' laser sequence - but two moments standout most. The first was 'The One' as I loved the whole arrangement, particularly the transition from acoustic to the upbeat original, and Kylie extending her arm into the audience was a touching moment; wish I was stood where she reached out but I was close enough to her throughout the whole performance anyway! The second was 'Where the Wild Roses Grow' where a fan screamed "yaaaasssss" right in the middle! Such a funny moment which Kylie laughed along with - it's those impromptu moments that make the tour experiences unique.
