6th place: Maria McKee - Show Me Heaven

UK chart run: 26-4-1-1-1-1-2-4-8-14-24-33-53-73 (14 weeks)

Maria McKee is next to fall after gaining 43.8% of the votes last time around. The song very much represents the early 90s when it was common for a big power ballad single to be released as the main theme from a movie and for it to translate into a huge smash single. I think this is a decent effort tbh, it's very of its time but it's a guilty pleasure to sing along to whenever I do hear it, can imagine it being a huge karaoke style hit. Unfortunately for Maria this was her only real success, apparently a track called I'm Gonna Soothe You made #35 in 1993 (but I challenge any of you to sing the tune to that one!) and after then she never troubled the chart again.

Just 5 tracks remaining now so we have our top half in the survivor... but who will fall next? Get voting!

I'm really not sure what to go for this time, I really like everything that is left.

Days of Thunder wasn't it? Not sure if I've seen the film or not but it was the one about NASCAR racing (or something like that) with Nicole Kidman too - another big Tom Cruise soundtrack song after Take My Breath Away.

Ahhh ok. I had no idea!

Had a listen through them all and I think I'm going for Beats International this time.

I couldn't remember where Show me Heaven had charted in the US, but according to wiki

never charted in the US, which is weird cos sounds very much like the typical song that could do well in the US charts back then

Voting for 'Nothing Compares 2 U' again! 'Show Me Heaven' was next in line for me in that round though, not too bothered about that leaving.

I can't think of 'Show Me Heaven' anymore without thinking of the dance version which is worrying for the classic and maybe shows the impact of the dance version on me - anyone else?

There three cracking dance classics to vote out now plus a classic ballad or THE classic ballad in 90s chart history and then Madge!

Went for Snap as although it's a classic it's not as big as their 'other' classic and I like the other two dance tracks!

Snap is my least fav out of those 5

Poor Maria! She also wrote Feargal Sharkey's A Good Heart, so two huge UK number ones and nothing much in America for an American. Her ex-bf also wrote Feargal Sharkey's follow-up You Little Thief, both the songs were about the respective ex, so total soap delight there...!

Beats International again until it goes....

Snap! - The Power, Snap have a couple of songs i like especially rhythm is a dancer and welcome to tomorrow but i never liked the power.
Show Me Heaven isn't the most exciting song granted but it's a damn sight less dull than Nothing Compares 2 U.
