I feel like we're missing the pretty substantial point of it not being on Hot Hits UK. It's f***ed without that, that's ALL there is to it.

This lie would only work if Smile's failure had occurred on the UK chart alone, but just check any chart around the world and we will come to the verdict. And the problem wasn't lack of investment since it had a video, 65m playlist reach on Spotify and was released along with the pre-sale and unveiling of the album cover. There are no excuses.

It's not a lie. It's literally not on Hot Hits UK.

It has flopped worldwide though, like we don't have to make excuses for that. Katy's name should still be able to get her higher than #95 if she was able to get Harleys In Hawaii as high as #45 just 9 months ago last year with a similar level of support.

I know it's bound to be the case on a chart forum site, so this is a bit hollow, but as a huge fan of hers (and I'm sure I've said this before), can we not let our opinions be dictated by where a song charted? Like, the song is no better or worse than it was before just cos it's under performing, it's certainly served its purpose for me in getting me ready for the album as I think this song acts as a representation for the theme of the album.

Just ENJOY THE MUSIC. Or if you don't, don't. I feel like every thread now gets bogged down in caring so intensely about chart positions. This song is so fun and carefree to me, I don't think it's shine should be dulled by any chart ranking :(

This ^ (although the U.K. really is the only place it seems to be being pushed as a single).

Some posters here only come to express their happiness that Katy is charting low and it's exhausting. Pretty much every female post star experiences this in their 30s, and it doesn't seem like Katy cares anymore. She's happy to be promoting music she enjoys and I think it's going to show as the album is already shaping up to be lighter and more enjoyable than Witness.

It's not a lie. It's literally not on Hot Hits UK.

Alice, an album track, debuted at #29 in the UK without Hot Hits UK, no video, no joint release with pre-sale album + album cover reveal and with less than 1/3 of Smile's reach on playlists. Stop making excuses where there are no excuses.

Okay, there's no way of doing this politely, can you just f*** off from this forum or just stay in the Lady Gaga forum which is the ONLY place you seem to ever have anything positive to say? This whole pitting female artists against other female artists thing seems to be very your schtick, so I'd suggest somewhere like ATRL or stan Twitter where people are equally as irritatingly narrow as you.
Meekul was banned from the Little Mix forum only for trolling so I don’t see why this shouldn’t happen here.

I'm not trolling, I'm just telling the truth, if it's not possible to tell the truth here, then I don't want to post here again. Keep lying to yourselves.

The issue is you only post about Katy's chart rather than the actual song or any sort of constructive feedback/criticism. I think Stan Twitter is honestly a much better place for you if that's all you're capable of posting.

I'm not going anywhere, the only thing I've done here is hire the 1001 clueless excuses you're giving for another Katy's flop, and I don't see why you're so angry just because I'm telling the truth about facts.

I'm glad you showed your true colors.

What is the need for you to distort reality to try to hide the truth? Everyone can check my posts and see that I only posted real data and real numbers, there is no "stan" here.

I didn't know that only people who were alienated and couldn't face reality were welcome here.

Let’s just not compare women because let’s be real no-one ever compares men in the music industry and move on. Katy i’m sure isn’t bothered :)
Yes but this is to discuss the song, no one is alienated to it being a flop! It is, who cares?!

Gaga is inevitably going to be in a similar position to Katy at some point — and that is okay. Popstars have a mainstream shelf-life. I would say as long as Katy and her fans are happy with her music, then that is what really matters.

There's no specific topic to talk about just the numbers of this song, that's why I'm posting about it here.

Does Katy have anything to prove to you? No? She's rich as f***, is having Legolas' baby and has years of broken records and accolades to her name. It's amazing how Gaga has managed to sustain and even increase in popularity again but that doesn't mean she has to be compared to Katy?

Britney, Xtina, Gaga, Mariah and even Beyoncé are allowed to release music without constantly being ridiculed at any sign of chart underperformance because they're past their peaks. Katy is releasing an album and people are allowed to discuss other factors other than the fact it hasn't charted well.

It's okay to comment on it. I'm sure if/when Katy is doing well for whatever reason it can be celebrated too but just coming here to post negative stuff is...odd?)

This has been reduced to 59p.

This is the first time her team have reduced one of her songs since Swish Swish oddly enough. Even those few weeks when NRO was just outside the top 10 and they didn't bother which was odd. A shame this one isn't on Hot Hits or Today's hit on Apple.

This is what is most annoying me. We KNOW Smile is underperforming and we KNOW Lady Gaga is much more successful than Katy Perry at the moment. None of that needs explaining to us, it just reeks of this irritating stan complex where women are always pitted against one another to prove a point.

My true colours are absolutely trying to cleanse this place of having such a needlessly negative attitude. Not to mention, this is the third thread I've seen you harp on about Katy in the last week or so in a forcefully negative way trying to get everyone to *snaps fingers* face the facts. Who cares?! Has she kicked your dog? Did she spit on your relative?

As has been said, I'm okay to comment on chart performance, and maybe "how can Katy do better?" or "where is she going wrong?" with intelligent points raised but when the negativity leaves very little room for actual discussion and it just feels like someone is waltzing into a Katy Perry forum to just spout negativity about Katy Perry then all it's going to do is leave a sour taste and an overwhelming sense of wanting you to just f*** off.
