Röyksopp first came to my attention back at the turn of the century when the Norwegian duo released Melody AM, a stylistically varied electronic album that was packed full of downtempo goodness, varied quirky styles and collaborations. The electronic producers had made a promising start to their career but it still didn't prepare me for what was to come, they have since expanded their horizons in their instrumental music to take in many different genres but for me they truly shine when they collaborate with other acts. They’ve certainly grown to be recognised as one of the all time greats in dance music circles. Happily for me they have exquisite taste in who they collaborate with and they have worked with some of my favourite Scandinavian pop artists like Robyn, Susanne Sundfør and Karin Dreijer (from The Knife), all of which I'm hoping to showcase at some point in the contest. Up until the last moment I was going to send Robyn (no surprises there as she’s my all time favourite pop act!) but I felt that she was already so well known on the board that nobody would make any discoveries from her catalogue, so this gives me the perfect opportunity to still send a couple of Robyn tracks whilst also sharing some other beautiful and, in my opinion, perfect examples of other electronic collaborations. I hope you find you love them like I do...

So here's the thread for you guys to help me decide what to send during this AF Idol journey. Feel free to discuss whether you like the tracks or not and also really happy to hear your suggestions for tracks that I should try to send along the way.

Really happy to be representing an alternative/electronic act as they never get the chance to shine in the artists forums. Hopefully we'll have some discoveries for those of you who aren't familiar with the Norwegian duo whilst also hearing about your favourite tracks from them if you're already a fan.

To help you all out I've compiled a playlist of some of my favourite Röyksopp tracks, would be good to hear which ones you feel are better ^_^

I'd really like to see 'Andromeda' be sent for something (if there are any themes that it will even fit lol) purely because more people need to hear it. It's beyond me how that passed by as an unreleased song at the time they made it, honestly might be my favourite thing they have ever done.

I guess you'll want something a little more well-known for this round though. Maybe 'The Girl And The Robot'? I don't really know how the ~strategy~ is working in this.

‘Never Ever’ w/ Susanne Sundfør seemed quite popular on here at the time if you want to save ‘The Girl And The Robot’!
I only remember their early singles, Eple, and also Poor Leno

I've only heard their first album, Melody A.M, and I love it but I don't know how much it would appeal outside the indie/dance crowd. I think Eple and maybe Poor Leno and So Easy would be good choices at some point? The collaborations with Robyn and Susanne Sundfor (that's probably not how you spell her name sorry) are probably the best chance of success.

I'll try and listen to that playlist!

Running to the Sea is an all-time fave of mine and from the sounds of it not everyone knows it so I would definitely consider sending that! Do It Again was also in a recent Twitter meme so those unfamiliar with Royksopp might know that!

Royksopp are definitely one of the least familiar artists to the board, bar Greyson Chance perhaps, so I'd start off strong and just get as far as possible until you run out of steam. If you send a middling track on this round I fear it might be the end already!

Running To The Sea is one of my all time favourites as well, I definitely want to send that at some point.

I may be wrong (Joseph is not always to be trusted) but I think every act takes part in each round - if we were being knocked out I'd totally have gone with Robyn!

Perfect! I think you should like them, we often have similar tastes ^_^

Yes I'm probably going to start with something relatively poppy so I don't kill interest from most posters from the off!!! But I agree that some of their lost tapes tracks are wonderful

Tempted by Never Ever... it's a great little track and Susanne Sundfør has some fans on here, even if they may not be in the majority!

Please do! I'd imagine you should like a fair bit of it ^_^

My gut is telling me to largely avoid their debut. Like you, I do love it but it doesn't shout at me as the tracks that would best appeal to a wider audience.

'Eple' at least has to be a must at some point surely? Isn't that still basically their signature song? x

I've seen this now so no need to worry about that! I just couldn't see it in the reveal thread  I much prefer that idea so every artist gets to show everything they wanted to!

Omg just listening to Eple now! Never knew it by name! That soundtracked so many things in the noughties! Childhood flashbacks :')
Yeah I think it was a song I knew for ages before actually knowing what it was called as well haha. I wonder if that might be the case for some others on here too. x
'Never Ever' is my absolute fave of theirs, that might be a good one to start off with unless you want to go with a Robyn collab.

I would very likely support most of their songs from what I've heard but yeah would love to some of Eple, Running To The Sea, What Else Is There in here.

A Robyn collab is always very solid though, I like the idea of one of those as the first.

Just re-listened to Eple and what a fantastic song it is!!

So I've been thinking about what I can send and the rounds are fairly interchangeable for a band like Röyksopp as most of their tracks are singles/collaborations/remixes etc. I'm definitely going to send Do It Again / The Girl and the Robot / Running to the Sea / Never Ever at some point as they're my ultimate 4 tracks from them - I'm thinking of going with one of those as my round one choice, safe in the knowledge that there's plenty of opportunities for the other three later on in the contest.

Round 2 is definitely going to be the most tough for me but you'll see why when you see the theme!

So... after all that I think my choice is going to be between The Girl and the Robot and Never Ever as they don't fit into as many of the other categories as the others:

Anyone got any arguments for one over the other?
