August 25, 20204 yr 05 | 0.56 Röyksopp Best performer: Do It Again (Round 7) Worst performer: Eple (Round 12) I had a last minute change of heart with my act, switching from Robyn to Röyksopp, and I did wonder if I'd come to regret that decision... but I'm delighted that I did now as the Norwegian synth stars have found themselves top 5 in the final standings. Suffice to say I'm really chuffed about this so thank you everyone for supporting them, they really have outperformed my highest expectations for the contest. The reason I chose them was I thought they could be an act that the majority of Buzzjackers hadn't heard much of before but I felt that they had a style that some of you could potentially really enjoy. They're also a cross of electronic, indie and pop; so I thought they would be a really representative act to demonstrate where my personal tastes in music tend to converge. Tracks such as Running To The Sea, Do It Again, Never Ever and You Don't Have A Clue really are among my favourites of the past decade or so. As well as their own vocal tracks such as Circuit Breaker and Only This Moment, I also really wanted to showcase their ability to create some great collaborations and indeed that is where they shone brightest in the contest with all of the collaborations with Robyn, Susanne Sundfør, Jamie McDermott, Anneli Drecker and Karin Dreijer managing to finish in the top half of their respective rounds. Perhaps tellingly, their one entry without any vocals was their worst performing one in the contest as Eple couldn't quite match the bigger singles from the other acts in the contest. As the aim was to provide a few great discoveries, I do hope people managed to take away a few keepers from the submissions. I must say that I particularly enjoyed Lee's u turn on them - his prior logic being that they must be awful because our taste is usually quite disparate! I also enjoyed seeing them battle through to win for Rush with his gloriously geeky stats, just a shame I couldn't quite make it in your points all the way through! August 25, 20204 yr Author 03 | 0.59 Kelly Clarkson Best performer: My Life Would Suck Without You (Round 6) Worst performer: Sober (Round 1) Kelly was an instant choice for me. I just HAD to send her to this contest. There is still so much more to unpack with her career and discography. My only regret, is round 1. Sober really didn't deserve to do as badly as it did and had the down-tempo non-top 40 UK hit been thought of before, then I would have saved this for that round and Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You) would have been my choice of entry for round 1. Other than that, I'm really pleased with 3rd place and I'm so grateful that I got to share some of my absolute Kelly faves with the rest of BJ. Especially with those who may not have particularly liked much of her stuff prior. The songs that did the best, were definitely the ones I had expected to. The only one that I was a bit surprised by, was My Life Would Suck Without You. I knew it was a popular choice, but I was under the impression it was a song that divided people more than it seemed to have. No complaints though, the song is a banger <3 I can take pride in knowing that Kelly was the first act to score 2 wins and get the most wins overall. Had the album track rounds been better picked, I guess she would have done better, but honestly, I was just so happy to get some of my faves representing. Very pleased with the result after a very unnerving start of 12th-8th-10th finishes in the first 3 rounds. But since then it was pretty plain sailing for her, with only one more entry being bottom half. Thank you to everyone who managed to find the room to vote for her in the rounds that they did.
