I didn't watch 'Popstars' but I do recall hearing 'Sound of the Underground' on the radio a lot at the time, so GA soundtracked my life with their entire singles run <3

Possibly the best coronation single ever??

The ultimate coronation single! *.* I don't understand why X Factor etc. didn't follow by this example. It's a pop classic and you'd never have imagined it was a "winner's single" if you didn't already know.

It's so strange to think of this as a talent show winning single - where did the imagination go after how big a hit this was???? It's a classic and rightfully so

Absolutely, one of the greatest pop debut singles (LET ALONE A REALITY TV SHOW WINNING SINGLE) of all time. I just remember falling absolutely in LOVE with this the minute I heard it and was so ecstatic that they managed to annihilate OTV :')

What a song. What a moment. It's aged wonderfully too!

The best "winners single" of. all. time. *_______________* Also one of the strongest debut singles I can think of!

This was totally unlike anything I'd ever heard before. This sounded so unexpected and fresh. They totally nailed it with this song. Honestly looking back it seems like a miracle their record label had this up their sleeve for the girl group of a talent contest... it would have been all so easy for them to be given something really cheesy.

The microphone stand routine was also really inspired, to me it's iconic!

Also the music video - I think it's one of their best, and they really didn't come across like they'd been formed mere days before it was shot!

Incredible  The fact this'll be 18 years old in just a few months time, i-

The amount of times I recreated this :cheeseblock:

The single that should have bookended their discography! This is easily one of my favourites from them, I love the tour dance routine too - always think of that when I hear the song.

I'm still SO ANNOYED this wasn't their final single!! Some half-arsed, likely cancelled attempt at BCYLM was not the way to go out, and they could've had the PERFECT symmetry of starting on the underground, and finishing on the metro :(

I *get* why SN was the chosen single, but this is better, for me. It just flows a whole lot better as a song to me.

The "Hundred O's & X's" hook is so catchy!

DJ Fresh did an incredible job of making On the Metro seem like it could have been by Xenomania! The spirit of them is definitely in this song.

This was crying out to be the follow up single to Something New. I will never be able to understand how they passed on this one. :( Plus it would have been perfect for their career to have been bookended by Sound of the Underground and On the Metro. Missed opportunity

Okay so... I really like this as a song. I think it's gorgeous, in fact! It's just.... not worthy of being among their singles, and I think the entire situation has tainted it slightly for me.

> was still absolutely gigantic in my personal chart  GA's standards are so much higher than anyone else's!

Definitely! I think this and 'Every Now and Then' proved that Girls Aloud could have fitted in with the current music scene and not just be seen as a nostalgia act.

I lowkey think this was cancelled as a single in the end? The lack of radio support entirely was quite strange...! (+ I want to discount it from their discography xxx)

A single it should not have been though lmao. What a mis-fire. It's a lovely song, but could've been executed so much better.

05.0 Beautiful Cause You Love Me

I do like 'Beautiful Cause You Love Me' but I'd rather they didn't try play it 'safe' by releasing a wintry ballad (I say 'safe' as the whole thing was so half-arsed). Nicola does shine on it, definitely has her personal stamp all over it - you could just imagine a solo version on her album.
