Well it’s only charting on Spotify as far as I’m aware(?) and it wasn’t in the top 200 on Friday and Monday’s numbers will be missing from the first update so it’s only got two days of average Spotify numbers so I don’t think it would’ve made it in even if the OCC did count its streams.

He's gonna have to crack the Apple Music market too surely?

I guess it could be a genuine error? like when counting Spotify adds 3 zeros by mistake, or it has the same track number as someone else...

 

otherwise it's intentional and someone has a software that makes like 100,000 fake Spotify accounts and makes them listen to the song 10 times a day... but that means the label is behind it...

It's no different to the chart pluggers deliberately hyping a record into the chart in the 1980s by either sending loads of free copies to chart return stores, or going out and buying two or three copies of a single in each chart return shop in each city and then dumping it or selling it back to the distributors.

 

Chart complilation may be different but the desperate measures to get a hit single remains.

French Montana was caught doing it not too long ago! People found his songs had been streamed on their accounts without knowing, and it boosted him on Spotify considerably IIRC

That one's pretty blatant as the song was already dead & buried when it happened, but it surely would be easy to get away with some small scale astroturfing to take an otherwise top 20 hit all the way to the top. Well I guess that's what Spotify do already with their playlists

making fake accounts seems easier to do imho but again you need to do thousands and thousands of fake accounts...
