I re-ordered (and deleted / added b-sides) tracks on itunes for this a few years ago and I felt it flowed much better. I still love HICA despite the hate it gets on here such a beautiful track, the music, her vocals, that video!

1. Here it comes again

2. Yeh, yeh, yeh

3. On the horizon

4. I love you without trying

5. Reason

6. Lets love

7. Water

8. Like that

9. Living without you

10. Love to you

11. Home

12. Wonderland

Honestly I love you without trying, Wonderland and Living without you are some of my favourite Melanie C tracks I truly do not understand why or how they were left off the album in favour of the likes of Soul boy, Do I and Lose myself in you!?!? Like actually wtf? Same for Already Gone on This Time!?!?

  • Living without you is a masterpiece

  • Listening again to the album (and some b-sides) this morning, I find that the album has aged a bit better than I expected too. Not sure I will ever invest in this vinyl unless I can find it for cheap

That is a much better tracklist!!

I think Reason's problem is it is too slow, the first half especially with the only upbeat song being On the horizon! Some of the slow tracks like Positively somewhere and Melt are gorgeous tbf but unless you are in the mood for the album I can see why some people find it a bit of a snooze with so many in a row.

Having lose myself in you, Do I and Soul boy over the likes of I love you without trying, Love to you and Living without you though, I don't know why nobody at the record company didn't say "hang on a minute these are some of your best songs!" Wonderland is screaming to be the album closing song too. There are all the ingredients for a great album but a few mistakes mean it doesn't quite hit the mark in the way it could have done.

I think she said that Wonderland was too dark for the album. I bet it is the same for the other b-sides.

Reason as an album has a positive vibe even if it is boring imo.

Sometimes dark brings out the best material... look at Feel the sun!

Reason problem is the choice of some songs. After an incredible album like NS, expectations were high. Some B sides are way better than a lot of the songs that ended up on the album like Soul Boy, Do I, Loose Myself. If instead they had chosen “I love you with or trying”, Living without you, Love to You and Wonderland… the album would have been perfect.
Dreadful album.

It really is. Boring and devoid of any personality. People only fawn over the b-sides because most of the album tracks are just bland. She has much better b-sides though like I want you back, Everything must change, Fragile and Already gone.

Melanie hasn't even acknowledged its anniversary has she? Which tells you everything, she knows this album is a dud.

No, it doesn't mean anything. She rarely acknowledges personal anniversaries on social media. :coffee:

She has defo posted anniversaries of NS and Melanie C, which I have no doubt are the 2 solo albums she is most proud of.

Reason is just a bad album, I'm positive Mel recognises this now. Loads of artists have songs/albums of their own they dislike especially with time.

^ Northern Star is her most commercially successful album, whereas Melanie C is the most recent one.

The Sea & Version of Me are two albums she is most definitely proud of, yet she has never celebrated their anniversaries.

You'll Get Yours says hello too :D

Sure but it was not the theme of Reason.

Never said it was. I was agreeing that dark themes can bring out good music in general.

I mean I love you without trying and Living without you are two of my utmost favourite Melanie C tracks.

I have similar opinions about A Girl Like Me, bar a couple of tracks, I guess we all have different tastes.

This era certainly has good songs from it, but the album track list that was settled on doesn't represent the era in the strongest way it could.

I've never liked its artwork either, to me it feels... clinical
