I remember hearing it loads and thinking it would be huge but it didn’t even chart top 40!

It did have a long run in the Top 75 in spite of not making the Top 40. The week that it entered at 67 I bought the 7" vinyl (which I've still got - and included a CD single inside it!) and was surprised that it was that low. But it did climb in subsequent weeks and hang around.

“Oxford Comma” did make the Top 40 that summer (38), later followed by “Cousins” (39) in 2010 which must have had a delayed physical release because according to my chart archive I bought, played and charted it in November 2009.

A few that come to my mind:-

Kelly Clarkson - Breakaway - peak No.22 - Great track and was massive on the radio at the time and still one of her best tracks

Tiesto - Adagio For Strings - Peak No.37 - Arguably the most popular version of this track

The Killers - All These Things I Have Done - peak No. 18 - One of their big singalong signature tracks

Sean Paul - Temperature - peak No.11 - Still a massive club hit to this day

Sum 41 - In Too Deep - peak No. 13 - Another big track from the early 2000's which gets more airplay than their actual Top 10 'Fat Lip'

The Streets - Has It Come To This - peak No.18 - one of his signature tracks

I completely forgot Temperature never made top 10. :o It definitely feels bigger than its peak suggests.
Had to come back to this thread as soon as I remembered that Paramore's 'Misery Business' only peaked at #17!!!
And even more surprisingly Ignorance only made #14. That felt MASSIVE in 2009. (And Still Into You in 2013 for that matter).

My local hometown club used to play Temperature practically every Saturday night without fail.

I'm sure I saw it's position at the time when I was following the chart back in 2006 but I'm a little surprised Nerina Pallot's 'Everybody's Gone To War' peaked at 14 looking back now. Nowadays I'd have thought low top 10 when guessing where it peaked or something.

Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar

One of the best known trance anthems of all time. Only made no.12 (that was in 1998) or 24 (in 2002).

Gwen Stefani's 'Cool' always surprises me. The dreaded #11 :drama: I also get shocked to see that 'Fergalicious' wasn't top 10 (I assume it was a cancelled single? - so idk if this counts / similarly Pussycat Dolls - Wait A Minute)

'Cool' didn't surprise me as much, it was the 4th single from an album which had sold about a million by that point (with the previous singles going #4, #4 and #8). I didn't think it would be in contention for the top 10 at the time.

With 'Fergalicious', they cancelled the physical just before the week it was due to be released which meant it couldn't chart. Which is a shame and pretty mindless, as I'm certain they deprived themselves of a top 3 hit there.

This one I was certain would be a top 5, if not contender for #1 at the time but somehow only got to #14:

Jessica Garlick - Come Back missed the top 10 despite finishing 3rd for us in 2002. Can't remember if I knew that or not but you'd have expected it to be considering that.
