October 27, 20204 yr I think it could close enough between ariana and sam with ariana winning. Cliff should be a very safe top 5 and Amy McDonald between 6 and 8. I don't see the new dizzee rascal album doing all that well.
October 28, 20204 yr I've added a poll to the first post to see which of the biggest new entries will be #1. Ariana's album isn't available physically next week, is it? I wouldn't be surprised if, in the first mids, Sam Smith and even Cliff Richard were ahead (I can see the latter exceeding expectations, I feel like the hype of his 80th birthday may boosted his sales. He's also #2 on Amazon currently whilst Sam Smith is #11). First week sales for each artist's last couple of albums: Ariana 44,755 sweetener (#1, 30th August 2018) - 17,449 streams 65,214 thank u, next (#1, 21st February 2019) - 43,811 streams Cliff 37,122 Just...Fabulous Rock 'n' Roll (#4, 24th November 2016) 28,215 Rise Up (#4, 6th December 2018) Sam 101,752 In the Lonely Hour (#1, 7th June 2014) 97,328 The Thrill of It All (#1, 16th November 2017)
October 28, 20204 yr Arianas store does have some bundles for her album like limited edition covers and cassettes no vinyl though. I pre ordered mine off HMV so they appear to be stocking it soon I don’t know if it’s as soon as Friday but hopefully it is.
October 28, 20204 yr rooting for Cliff the underdog too even if Ariana will walk it. too bad BMTH don't have physicals, kinda rules them out Ariana does have 3 CDs and 3 cassettes and they ship Friday. One "but" is the album is terribly, downloaded the leak, heard it a couple times and then threw it to the trash. It's that bad. It's basically the last Bieber album refried. Written and produced by the same people with the same vibe. Not sure who thought it was a good idea. Don't think Sam Smith has the fanbase anymore no matter how much payola and money their label throw around. Of course if your label buys you a spot at the top of HH on release day, they're never gonna flop, but thats not the same as saying oh Sam Smith does very well on streams. Also think the U2 rerelease will do very well, their fans are pretty loyal and have $ to spend on those deluxe editions.
October 28, 20204 yr The interest towards Ariana album is not as huge as it was towards TUN. But the same applies to Sam Smith after their 572568569 singles prior to album. So, it's a close call and Cliff Richard might surprise us all.
October 28, 20204 yr I actually voted Cliff just for the lols. I don’t think it’s out of the question.
October 28, 20204 yr Voted for Ariana, this album comes off the back of her imperial phase, which is still lasting to some degree - she's miles ahead at #1 this week in the singles chart midweeks. Plus she had one of the top 10 best-selling albums of last year. Sam's last album had big opening numbers and sold well but the album market has nosedived even further since then and three years is a long time in pop music. They're still popular to some degree, but not as much as Ariana nowadays - their new sound (while superior, in my opinion x) hasn't resonated with the public as much as their previous eras, even if still doing well. 'The Thrill Of It All' came off the back of an (inexplicably x) huge #1 single and that sound was a winning formula for shifting albums. They also struck while the iron was hot, whereas 'Dancing With A Stranger' feels like a lifetime ago and follow-up releases have proven to be diminishing returns - which is obviously a natural trajectory, but both 'I'm Ready' and 'Diamonds' have felt like underperformances. So yeah I'm expecting Ariana to take it. In the back of my mind it does feel crazy for a 97k opening week to hypothetically come crashing down so much, but album sales really are pitiful now. Cliff doesn't really feel like much of a threat based on his past couple of albums and those were released even closer to Christmas :P I suppose the 80th birthday angle could increase sales from last time but I can't imagine it being enough for #1 - not even John Lennon could do that.
October 28, 20204 yr 1. Ariana 49k 2. Sam Smith 41k 3. Cliff Richard 22k 4. Bruce 15k Edited October 28, 20204 yr by Chapman
October 28, 20204 yr Cliff most likely increasing towards Christmas is a valid point. His biggest sales weeks might be in December. 1. Ariana 49k 2. Sam Smith 41k 3. Cliff Richard 22k 4. Bruce 15k Hope this is true and they don't beat Gaga :P Edited October 28, 20204 yr by Sour Candy
October 28, 20204 yr I actually voted Cliff just for the lols. I don’t think it’s out of the question. Cliff Richard is on the One Show tonight, that's the #1 sorted than
October 28, 20204 yr Ariana will take it but the album is really bad and will have bad legs and no hits after.
October 28, 20204 yr Ariana will get the number 1 I don’t think it will even be much of a battle tbh .
October 28, 20204 yr Ariana will get the number 1 I don’t think it will even be much of a battle tbh . Same. I think the real battle will probably be who comes 2nd out of Sam Smith and Cliff Richard.
October 30, 20204 yr Thought Ariana would easily get it but I wouldn’t be surprised if Sam took it considering how poor her album is
