December 3, 20205 yr one thing the occ has to change is how they count album streams they have to give more streaming points when you stream an album properly and cancel playlist streams
December 3, 20205 yr To be fair in the singles since Ariana was released, off the top of my head, there's been Little Mix, KSI/Craig David, BBC Radio All-Stars, Billie Eilish, Miley/Dua, Shawn/Justin, BTS, Nathan Dawe/Little Mix etc. - sure it's not Adele, Ed Sheeran or Drake :kink: but I'd say there's a good handful of new release competition right there that has just not been as popular - LadBaby probably coming to be the new release that does knock her off in the near future Ari is on playlists but so is a lot of the competition. Not sure why she's being lumped with Bieber either when he hasn't had a #1 this era. Also, as pointed out, Dua is a fellow Spotify darling and has just had a post-album top 5 hit  (a general response to this default #1 thing and not just aimed at the Covid joke xo)
December 3, 20205 yr one thing the occ has to change is how they count album streams they have to give more streaming points when you stream an album properly and cancel playlist streams The resistance from labels I’m sure would be huge though - I mean Mable would have been a 3 week 12k selling wonder without playlist album sales
December 3, 20205 yr Steps MAY just make the #2 spot. Think they'll need to clear 3k today in order to pip B&B to second place! Great outcome for them either way. To still be able to sell records (albeit using various methods to do so) 23 years into their career is some feat.
December 3, 20205 yr The resistance from labels I’m sure would be huge though - I mean Mable would have been a 3 week 12k selling wonder without playlist album sales  You mean a 1-week 1K selling wonder :o But I'm sure indie/rock artists are not happy cos if you look at the proper album streams chart on Apple without playlists indie/rock albums do well enough and continue doing well after week 1 but this doesn't translate into album streams cos they don't have songs on playlists while Mabel is not on the top 1500 album streaming chart but gets 3000 fake album sales a week from playlists, it's beyond silly
December 3, 20205 yr Levitating taking off on the charts was more down to her team investing in its release with a lot of promo that helped with download sales (social media adverts, Morissons ad, Graham Norton, remixes) rather than because of Spotify support where it's only peaked at #11 If there's anyone who is a Spotify darling, it's Mabel
December 3, 20205 yr Oh I don't mean to downplay Dua's success on other platforms as well at all, indeed she had other contributing factors, what I mean is that she comes to mind as a fellow success story on Spotify - most artists would kill for a post-album song to reach #11 on there  but was being used in a tirade against streaming.
December 3, 20205 yr Decent sales for the albums especially the top 3 with Gary likely to be in and around 50k and Steps and Ball/Boe 40k!!

Levitating wouldn't have came anywhere close to #11 on Spotify without the DaBaby remix. As a solo album track it would have fared the same as Hallucinate I think. She is definitely one of few female artists who do get support I agree! Years of hard work (and money) was put in for that to happen though
December 3, 20205 yr Dua and Sam Smith have had great support The latter have had a messed-up era overall imo. compared to the quality of the album, Dua’s Future Nostalgia should have been a lot more succesful... but then again it was released in the midst of a global pandemic & a lockdown, therefore it could’ve had more worldwide impact in normal times.... Don't Start Now was also the song most deserving of the title "robbed queen"
December 3, 20205 yr I assume you mean better than it did as I think FN has been very successful, one of the biggest albums of the year

Compared to the quality of the album, What's Your Pleasure? and Roisin Machine should have been more successful. I think it's done really incredibly well, I don't know what more you can ask for?
December 3, 20205 yr My christmas wish this year is that Mariah will FINALLY get that #1 with AIWFCIY :teresa:

December 3, 20205 yr I mean, Elvis rereleased 3 songs in the 2000s which got to number one, almost 50 years after their original release; and Mariah got to #4 based off downloads in 2007, so this isn't just down to streaming. Never mind songs like PJ and Duncan's "Let's Get Ready to Rhumble", which hit number 1 20 years after they were released before streaming had an impact on the charts! Yes, occasionally in the past old hits have resurfaced in the charts as a result of being reissued but not every year. It’s the product of streaming popularity which see’s in reach the T5 singles chart every Christmas. Unless the charts company change the rules, it will largely continue to happen every year! December 3, 20205 yr Ariana book-ending the top 10 singles :o wow! Didn't expect '34+35' to re-peak at any point tbh but that looks like a real possibility now.
December 3, 20205 yr Pretty impressed at how much longevity AC/DC still have - are they just proving to be a popular Xmas present for dads or something
